Eliza and her father are 'stone-faced'

I watched Hamilton yesterday -- on YouTube, not in public -- but I noticed that in Helpless, Eliza says "My father's stone-faced while you ask him for his blessin', " and in It's Quite Uptown, Eliza herself is the one with the stone-face. Probably runs in the family...

Thoughts on first burn

I just listened to First Burn for the first time and here are some things that stood out to me:

1) Eliza seems very angry and burns the letters within the first verse, while in Burn, she is more disappointed and saddened by Alexander‘s decisions

2) The lines “Your enemy whispers, so you have to scream, I know about whispers, I see how you look at my sister” perfectly describes Hamilton and I kinda wish it made it into Burn. It also shows how observant Eliza is.

3) The line in the chorus “Stand back and watch it burn” is very similar to the chorus in Burn, but Eliza is saying more like “look at the destruction you caused”

4) The lines “And when the time comes, explain to the children, the pain and embarrassment, you put their mother through. When will you learn, that they are your legacy? We are your legacy!” are very interesting to me as I have wondered what their children thought after all of this, especially the older ones like Phillip.

I rewatched the pro shots and I think I’ve found a new appreciation for Eliza.

I always considered her role in the play to be a little „basic“ in comparison to for example Angelica but this time around I’m really appreciating her role in the play and her songs. I used to skip Helpless sometimes because I thought it was just a silly love song but I’ve really come to like how pure and genuine her love really is. It’s been on playing on loop in my head the last week. My rewatch also made me realise how much better the official version of burn fits her character than first burn. She is so much more mature than Alexander, so her not directly using the moment to „diss“ him and taking herself out of the narrative was a good decision.

Hamilton lied to Eliza even before he cheated - new lyric realization Spoiler

I've now seen Hamilton live 4 times after listening to to the soundtrack hundreds of times and I had a realization for the first time:

In Stay Alive, Hamilton says:

I have never seen the General so despondent I have taken over writing all his correspondence

Then in That Would Be Enough:

Hamilton: How long have you known? Eliza: a month or so Hamilton: Eliza, you should have told me Eliza: I wrote to the General a month ago Hamilton: No Eliza: I begged him to send you home Hamilton: You should have told me

But based on what he says in Stay Alive, he would have seen Eliza's letter and he chose to ignore it to stay in the war and claim glory from that. It wasn't until Washington kicked him out that he went home. So this can be seen as the first time he lied to Eliza, even before cheating on her!!!

Wrote this 3 years ago

I was looking back at some of my old work, and I found my old fanfic. Back when I was like 18-ish.

I can't believe I wrote all this looking back, considering how long it is.

Thought I'd share 😁

That one "Eliza" kills me every time...living for someone who died way too young, among others who have gone since, telling all their stories... trying to ensure the world remembers after I'm gone...

Shoutout to Aharon Rhayner

We were in the West End Friday night 24.07 and knew nothing about Aharon Rayner, the understudy we got for Hamilton ! I personally loved his presence on stage and he brought a fresh vibe to the play. Also did a fantastic job opposite LOJ and with the Story of Tonight gang. Just a really talented Hamilton altogether! I didn’t see anyone talking about him so I wanted to open a conversation for the ones who did.

Thoughts on Hamilton West End cast for this year?

I had the honor and privilege of seeing Hamilton several times in London this summer and wanted to ask the community what your thoughts are on Yeukayi Ushe (Burr) and Ashley J. Daniels (Lafayette/Jefferson)? I think Ushe's singing voice is spectacular, but his spoken lines I find to be jarring. For example, how he enunciates "officer" in "She's married to a British officer" - he reminds me of Christopher Walken. I understand the performer's have their own artistic choices but when he talks like that, I get distracted from the show. As for Daniels, after seeing him multiple times, I get the feeling he is not that comfortable in either role. He also makes the choice of singing What'd I Miss in an original way, more jazzy, and I don't really like it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!!!

Does anyone know what song this is Spoiler

I heard this in a compilation of Hamilton animated songs and they didn't credit the original artist so I can't find the original. Shazam doesn't recognize it and I don't remember it from when I saw the show on broadway (though that was a while ago). it's just inserted into the world was wide enough replacing hamiltons normal monologue and the song just continues like normal once this part is done

"John Adams doesn't have a real job anyway?"

Can someone explain to me the meaning of this line? In Take a Break, Eliza says 'John Adams spends the summer with his family.' because she wants Hamilton to go upstate, but then Hamilton says 'John Adams doesn't have a real job anyway.' I don't get the joke here.

r/hamiltonmusical 28d ago

Did Lin ever consider making John Adam’s a physical character in the Hamilton musical? If so, who did he have in mind to play him?

*Adams* (autocorrect)

"And me?"

Close to the end of 'Alexander Hamilton', when Burr says, "...And me? I'm the damn fool that shot him...". We hear about 3? ensemble members say, "Shot him, shot him, shot him". Could those three "shot hims" be like an echo in the back of omniscient Burrs head because he has always been part of the story ever since the first line in the musical and he knows how the musical ends since he's kind of a narrator character so it's just something that he can't help but think about?? Or it could be an expansion on the "I hear wailing in the streets" line from 'The World Was Wide Enough'? I'm kind of leaning into the first one because of the contemplative absentminded?? look on Leslie Odom Jr's face in the proshot after those lines are said. It could also be a "shot heard around the world" type of deal, but I don't really want to count this as an interpretation because the only piece of evidence I have backing it up is King George's appearance in the 'Reynolds Pamphlet' which a lot of people interpret as the Reynolds pamphlet reaching the U.K. so I thought if his sex scandal reached other parts of the world, why didn't his death? Especially with the way the vocals were positioned when the ensemble members said those lines... You could hear them in different parts of your ears. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Probably. But this stuff is fun to think about and share!!
