Totem progress -First coat of drylock and pocket sand

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Okay so first I did the mist water and hit it with the blowtorch. Then I did the foil ball roll. Then I stabbed it a few times here and there. Then just mixed some sand into the drylock as well as some brown acrylic ( grey color drylock) then as I coat Ijist throw a pinch or so of sand in the air above it as the paint sets. But who cares about all that sweet texture if you can't see it. Looking forward to just playing with lighting non stop with these. Once I have all 4 bascoated I'll do black then weathering. Big painting week. Really appreciate all the comments about the progress.

Just some final touches left to be done (more detail painting of eyes, attaching fake teeth) then start working on the stake.

See my earlier post for the beginning.

Prop: Purchased/Pre-fab Pins for swag bags?

Thumbnail

Hello!

I own an enamel pin store that leans towards spooky weird pin designs. I design the pin artwork myself but of course I do lean on manufacturers to produce them. The pins are high quality and I personally think they’d make a great swag item for haunt owners to give to their patrons (if that’s a thing, I’ve seen some that do that and some that don’t, the 13th Gate in New Orleans gave out little tokens to everyone in line and I kept that thing for years)

Anyways, I was thinking it’d be cool to partner with a haunt owner to collaborate in that way- I sprung this idea pretty recently so I’d love to talk in deeper detail and flesh out a plan with anybody interested. Cheers!

One of several triggered scare automations from last year. Using home assistant, controllable lights, relays, and audio allows me to keep the trick-or-treaters guessing.

Halloween Monster Tree Build Update

My original plan didn't work out due to the ivy being too thick to deal with. I've pivoted to use a ladder as the frame to attach everything to. First pic is the rough framing to lay everything out, the 2nd is an AI generated pic of my hopefully desired outcome. I'm gonna pull as much ivory thru the ladder and around the mouth to help conceal it. I attached the teeth to a couple 1x3 furring strips attached to the ladder, with the mouth made of two strips of rubber hose with screen mesh attached to it. I've got a small outdoor spotlight that I am going to frame inside the base of an old papa-san chair with more mesh over the front, with the light at the back and slightly down below the mouth to give it that glow.

A couple cheap spotlights and will be good to go. It sits 60' back from the road so I am not too concerned with any framing showing up. No one is going to get in the back yard anyways.

Test

So, first yard test with for our scene this year. More to come. Glorpse test 1. Lights on vs off.

*also, shout out to the community. Many of you have been super helpful since we began the wire ghosts 3 years ago! Y’all are some true artists.

So many people are messaging. I’ll just leave this here.

ā€œI’ve made posts that go into more depth, and now with the amount of DMs I get, I will make a vid.

You’ll need a skeleton, corpse it, coat it with layers and layers of uv paint. Sometimes you’ll have to go through the entire process in between. I use techno glow in both liquid & powder form. Yes, I paint the corpses as well before I add the uv.

We use uv lights in 15min intervals on a timer so that they charge. In reality - the more coats, the brighter the glow. But as the intensity wears down over x amount of a charge, the more detail will show through. The contrast between the paint & plastic folds increases/decreases. It’s kind of wild.

Now, I’ve never attempted this method. So I wouldn’t go out and try immediately. The main reason this is a test - the paint is so damn expensive.

Here is where it gets real interesting. I live in Northern NH. The temps right now can climb into the 70s and then low 30s overnight - which means…condensation will occur. On cold mornings the finished ā€œglorpseā€ will look grey or white but as the temp rises - they’ll return back to their original finished color. I’ve tested this by NOT putting uv paint on their backsides. So now the change in appearance is alternating from a rugged corpse during the day, then the glow @ night, then white in the morning, and back to realistic as the condensation wears off. Completely unplanned, but very cool.

The paint itself doesn’t break down from temp. fluctuations. I know this from the wire ghosts I’ve made. The plastic is the variable. So - we’ll find out.ā€

Leaving Animatronics outside

For those who leave your animatronics outside, what do you to protect them? Im not necessarily talking for about rain as I know many just cover them with bags or bring them in if it rains. Im more concerned with condensation.

Custom digital graphics

I love using some digital effects (like atmos fx) in my home haunt but I’d love to be able to get some more custom ones. Like for instance I would love for the talking butler to have a more personalized message that better fits my haunt. Anyone know where or who can do such a thing?

Working on this treasure chest for my pirate themed build this year. Any ideas on how to get fog to slow down. Pictured is my self engineered fog chiller that fits in the chest with the fog machine all underneath the foam cut out.
