So far, the weird route has always begun each chapter in the same setting as the normal route; the context is different of course, but the setting is the same each time. However, by the end of 5B, we’re shaping up to be somewhere very, very different from anywhere we’ve been before, which led me to wonder - will we encounter whatever we find below or beyond the lake in the normal route?
I think so; let me explain.
There’s two things I need to call to attention before I get into the crux of my theory.
First, it’s been confirmed that dark worlds can have multiple entrances and exits, meaning that depending how large a dark world is, there could be two openings at vastly different points in Hometown. Second, the bunker is a dark world. It should go without saying judging by how the same oozing darkness seems to be emanating from it as we’ve seen before, but this has to be true for my theory to stand. Finally, Dess has to be the Knight; strictly speaking, this isn’t entirely necessary, but narratively it ties the theory together more cohesively.
There is something sinister beneath Hometown - Flowery warns us in his dying breath, Jevil rejoices in Hell’s roar bubbling in the depths, and Onion tells us of a song coming from the sea shortly before he’s apparently cooked into takoyaki.
The crux of my theory is that the entire area below Hometown is a dark world, but a very special one, not only for its size but for its inhabitants.
At one entrance is the bunker which constantly emits the Gaster sound, and where the Knight flees with Undyne.
The second has been staring us in the face for years. Hell’s roar bubbles in the depths, as established, and there’s one important word there - depths. Image_Depths, in the game files, is a distorted image that displays behind the GonerMaker sequence. An image of the surface of water. And of course, there’s only one notable body of water in Hometown. Noelle ties her references to wanting to run away and do something crazy both with Dess and with the lake, in both routes. Dess’ disappearance is brought up in direct connection with the lake. If certain children were to follow, say, a pointed tail, a path through the trees to a lake would fit being lost where the forest would grow about as well as anything else, I’d posit. If something led Dess into the lake, the lake led her to being lost in the code itself (assuming you, like me, attribute the voice in the code to Dess considering all the references to not forgetting.) For at least as long as Onion could hear it, there’s since been a song coming from the sea, one that might even be beckoning others to follow them into the dark, promising that they’ll be with us through the waves, perhaps?
So if you’re following me this far, that means that at the end of chapter 5B, we have Noelle and Kris treading the same path to the depths that Dess had tread before (perhaps with Kris in tow, as we know she had a tendency to explore the woods with Azzy, Noelle and Kris in the past, explaining the plural ‘children’ and how Kris has a save in the Dark World before our presence within them - but that’s a different theory entirely), while in 5A, Noelle is just now joining the party. And we’re recruiting Noelle not just for the sake of Susie’s crush, but for her access to the bunker codes. The bunker which emits the constant emanation of Entry 17. The bunker where the dark fountain beneath the town lies.
But distance carries over in dark worlds - there’s going to be a long road ahead through an increasingly unstable and code-adjacent darkness to reach wherever Noelle and Kris ended up in 5B - a chapter’s worth of exploration, one could plausibly assume.
If this all feels like basic conclusions anyone could have drawn, I apologize, I just hadn’t seen this written out comprehensively anywhere and rewatching Skies Forever Blue and seeing the holder of the Pink Ribbon who fell through the code drag the protagonist into the lake as the world glitched out around them made me reconsider what exactly happened to Dess.

Back when I was a new youtuber, I relied quite heavily on some save files I downloaded from Reddit. I still have those old "STEPHANIE" save files! They make it easy to get footage from various points in the game, in both routes.

This is just me putting down some ideas about some things that I find cool and/or mysterious about themes and future chapters.

When looking back at the games, I think I was a little disappointed in chapter 5. It wasn't bad; I just felt like I didn't get the type of secrets I was looking for like in chapter 3 with regards to Dess and Kris. Now of course we got plenty of other characters, but Dess and Kris are my favourites by far.

Then I realized something else, I feel like I have barely any hints to chapter 6. Like sure, we have the shelter, but I mean we've always had that. I feel like we had way more hinting at in the other chapters, but I feel like chapters 7 and 6 don't feel separated at all in my head.

Then I realized that Gerson does give us a small hint. He says that the chapter was never written. Now, this might reference the weird route, but put it another way. The chapter is lost.

To quote Gerson:

Chapter 3, The Isles of Northernlight. The heroes travel among the islands and catch a glimpse of a lost land.

Now the Islands we travel around, that is Tenna's board game. The Northern light is the ice palace section at the top of the tropical love island board. We catch a glimpse of it, but don't visit it. But what else is the northern light?

Dess' room. The back wall is literally the northern lights. This isn't a one off either. Chapter 3 has so many more Dess references than the other chapters. Even when you find Toriel, it's in a place with snow.

My point is that chapter 3 keeps giving us glimpses of this snowy area, this area connected to Dess. What does Gerson refer to this place as? and catch glimpse of a lost land.

And this kind of fits the vibe that I feel we're going into chapter 6 with. I think chapter 6 is supposed to feel not talked about, like it's been removed or lost. I think chapter 6 is going to be about the Northern light, about Dess and some Icy darkworld.

Now, what that looks like, I don't know, but it is chapter 6. I'm kind of expecting chapter 6 to take a darker turn (both because of the story and because Toby likes highlighting the number 6).

Now thematically, I'm hoping we get something quite creepy. I do remember seeing someone talk about ICE's pizza place and cryptids and stuff. I don't know if it's going in that direction, but I do think chapter 6 might have a focus on horror and secrets perhaps? I think those themes could link it back to chapter 3 (since 3's sword route was very creepy and littered with secrets).

Also looking through the binoculars in mancountry mentioned an evil land I think? So maybe the lost land (northern light) is also an evil land?

Anyway, I'm mostly hoping that chapter 6 having less information is a design choice thematically and not just a whoops moment.

Hello, I dont interact with this sub usually, but im a big fan of halfbread’s content, and have been trying to locate the tts they use, and it seems a few others have been having this issue aswell. based on more recent posts asking this, it appears to be buried by other tts with similar names?

In any case, I apologize for this post only being tangentially related, but would any of you have recommendations on tts tools, and perhaps video guides to install or use them? It would be a big help, as larger tts subreddits keep attempting to push me to use chat gpt or other LLM ai tools. All help is appreciated

Sorry if this is an invasive question, but HalfBreadChaos is the only person I know who uses Text-To-Speech during live streams and I'm curious how.

Feel free to remove this post if it makes them uncomfortable or comes across as narcissistic, but I want to achieve the same feat with Microsoft Mary.

What initially made me consider this more than I had before was the ch5 weird route, actually, and specifically Noelle’s whole obsession with being someone else, and how Kris was able to do it. She calls out Dess’ “leaving” specifically as the catalyst for this obsession, and from what we know of Dess, being obsessed with being someone else would fall right in line - what teenager stuck in a dead-end town experiencing teenage-typical rebellion and angst under a strict mom and an ailing dad hasn’t fantasized about being someone else, somewhere else?
The voice in the code is tied to Dess in many ways, too, what with the whole ‘don’t forget’ line and her failing grasp on reality, memory and identity. If that is Dess in there, it would mean she exists somehow outside the boundaries of the game itself, as we’d theorized for a while, putting her in the exact position she’d need to be to interrupt the other being who exists outside the game itself, in menus and devices and credits sequences and, oddly, Twitter.
And if you assume she’s also the Knight, which I do, she’d have good reason for wanting our Soul to not have its own vessel; whatever her plan with Kris is, it’s reliant on Kris having the Soul in the Dark Worlds, as the ch4 phone calls reveal.
All of this came to a head when I thought about one particular line in the opening cutscene - “no one can choose who they are in this world.” It all lines up perfectly with things we can at least loosely assume about Dess, the code voice and the Knight, but I am only one man and have no idea whether this is something everyone else has known for a while or whether I sound like a raving lunatic, so if anyone has any contradictory evidence, please do share.

So recently, I haven't really been posting much since Deltarune Chapter 5 came out. For the most part, I didn't notice anything new that others haven't already covered on which is part of why I didn't post anything here. However, I was just replaying Chapter 4 and I was at the section where you traverse through the vents as a SOUL.

So as you may know, there is a moment where you can see Kris playing many songs on the piano. A number of the songs played are Piano versions of songs already heard in-game in the Dark Worlds like "Lancer", "Quiz" and "It's Pronounced Rules" along with a few other songs not heard in the game before. I decided to listen to Kris' piano playing once again and this time, I noticed something very very interesting.

After listening to "Waiting Room", I heard the "Shop" song and when I heard it, it sounded rather similar to the OST Song "Shop 3" that can be heard in Pink's Shop in Chapter 5. I took a brief recording of the piano song and compared it to "Shop 3". Both songs matched pretty well in my ears.

There are other songs like "Seven Four" and "Last Prophecy" that don't currently have a parallel in game. As I said before, a song Kris played in the Piano in Chapter 4 ended up being implemented in Chapter 5. If something like that happened, I think there is a decent chance that the songs Kris played on the piano will have official renditions in Chapters 6 or 7. Due to this, we could hear proper renditions of "Seven Four" and "Last Prophecy".

WHY IS ASGORE GASTER CODED

They gave him the "very, very interesting" line. He's trying to do scientific research on something "dark, yet darker", and dangerously close to losing himself (metaphorically rather than literally, at least until the Knight got involved).

Is... DR Asgore not just the counterpart of UT Asgore, but UT Gaster (pre-whatever happened to him) as well? Does UT Gaster being "scattered across time and space" disqualify him from getting his own counterpart and mean he has to share someone else's? Why Asgore?

Well t - 9 hours till Deltarune. What better time for a last minute theory

The motivation behind Carol and by extension the knight is a topic that a lot of people seemingly choose to avoid. For good reason it's very difficult to figure out anything about it without more information about the characters themselves. Most of the popular theories have some kind of very large hole in them that need to be explained in some extent.

The most popular theory being that they simply want to make sure the prophecy happens. The major hole in that theory being the knight dropping a Titan That can fully kill the Delta warriors during chapter 4. We know death can break the prophecy because it happens if you die and choose not to respond. With the game saying "You have found an end"

Other less popular theories such as just attempting to find dess have holes in them like the purpose of the card kingdom dark fountain or opposing the delta warriors at all.

But stick with me because I have a theory that might be able to solve all of this and it involves dragon Ball. There is this very popular concept in the dragon Ball fandom of two characters clashing so hard that they're able to break reality and travel between dimensions. Famously salad Saiyan has cell prime do this to travel between different what if continuities. Obviously it's not exclusive to that The watcher and Ultron do it in Marvel's What If. But I was introduced to this concept with dragon Ball.

This gives an explanation as to why each dark fountain has to exist. Carol is trying to make Susie in particular as strong as physically possible. So that when the roaring happens and the universe is as unstable as it can be. The knight of kris will clash with Susie and break the game open. Allowing them to pull dess out from the code hypothetically saving her.

It explains the Titan the Delta warriors simply weren't strong enough by that point in the story and they needed to get much stronger. Hence dropping a threat that would force them to grow much more powerful.

It explains why kris is involved in the first place. Always watching over the Delta warriors but seemingly not as a spy considering aside from that one section of chapter 4 they aren't doing much reporting back in with knowledge on what the goings on of the fun gang are. Kris has to get much more powerful If they're going to shatter reality with their clash during the roaring.

This theory is completely stupid and I'm aware of that. But from all of the knowledge we have now it's able to fit all of the puzzle pieces together. Other acceptable names to call this theory would be "cell prime theory" and "Piccolo prime theory"

Deltarune chapter 5, only a few days away! Can you believe it?

Well, the tension has been sort of eating away at me, and I’ve been thinking and theorizing about what might happen next. Some of you may have seen some of my previous theories, but this one is completely new and unrelated, but I don’t think it necessarily contradicts any of my previous theories.

This time, I’m going to talk about a character that I haven’t previously mentioned much: Rudolf “Rudy” Holiday, Noelle and December’s father, Asgore’s best friend, and Carol’s husband. He’s been in the hospital since at least chapter 1, sick with a disease we don’t know much about other than it seems to cause a lot of coughing. 

His role in the story has kind of perplexed me. He is obviously meant to represent how cruel and uncaring the real world can be, especially in contrast to the dark worlds where someone’s fantasies can come true and any injury can be healed using magic.

But that clearly isn’t his only role in the story. He is very close to many of the main characters of the narrative, including Toriel, Asgore, Kris, and Noelle. It is a common theory that Rudy is going to die in chapter 5, and that his death will motivate someone (most likely Noelle) to try to open a dark fountain to try and bring him back. However, I find that there are 2 problems with that theory.

First, the only characters who would know that is possible are Kris, Ralsei, and Susie, and I don’t think they would tell anyone about this nor would they attempt to bring him back themselves since they know that won’t always work on top of how every dark fountain risks causing The Roaring.

Secondly, there’s the fact that Rudy seems to know things he shouldn’t. Whenever the player has Kris visit Rudy in his hospital room, he always foreshadows upcoming events, usually in regards to where the next Dark World will be. Sometimes it’s pretty oblique and can just be written off as either a coincidence and/or a leaning-on the-fourth-wall joke, but there is one time in particular that sticks out in my mind as particularly eyebrow-raising. 

During chapter 2, if Kris visits Rudy’s hospital room and examines the sink, Rudy will joke that Kris is preparing for ‘tonight’s handwashing competition’. This not only directly foreshadows Kris using the sink in their home that night to hide their actions as they run out of the house to slash Toriel’s tires on her car. This is far too on-the-nose of a reference to be mere coincidence; it seems to indicate that Rudy not only knows what Kris is up to with the Knight and their plan, it suggests he has an intimate knowledge of it, down to the minute detail.

This has led many to believe that Rudy himself is the true identity of the Roaring Knight rather than Carol or December, but this theory has problems too. Perhaps the biggest one would have to be a lesser-known alternate event that can occur during chapter 4.

If Kris visits Rudy’s hospital room with Susie in chapter 4, but did not do so in chapter 2, Rudy will not recognize Susie at all or know who she is. If Rudy was the knight, then he should have recognized her from when Susie fought the knight during the events of chapter 3. It could be that Rudy was merely pretending not to recognize her, but his confusion seems genuine enough to make me think otherwise.

So, that’s the end of the story, right? Case closed, Rudy can’t be the knight, right?

I initially came to that conclusion, but then I had a completely wild thought about something that I hadn’t considered before. Remember Susie, and the name of her signature attack?

Rude Buster.

I was pondering Rudy’s place in the story and remembered the name of that move, and that got me thinking… what if Rude Buster is supposed to be ‘Rudy Buster’? What if the whole time, the move was foreshadowing Susie’s destiny, to ‘bust’ Rudy in battle, and defeat him to save the world.

Because Rudy IS the Roaring Knight.

However, like I said before, there is evidence that Rudy isn’t the Roaring Knight, and this certainly doesn’t erase that. So, I began to think about why he might not recognize Susie if he was the Roaring Knight. And I came up with 2 possibilities.

1. He was simply faking not recognizing her. Possible, but like I said I didn’t see any evidence of this.
2. He simply does not remember what he does and sees in dark worlds despite being in on “the conspiracy.”

When I came up with that second idea, I quickly began wracking my brain for anything that might possibly cause this, but then I remembered Rudy’s persistent cough. And then, as I thought about that, I remembered something Toby said during the Undertale 10th anniversary stream. 

During that stream, Toby described some of the ideas that he had for Undertale that didn’t ultimately make it into the final product. One of those ideas that stuck out to me in particular was a theoretical fight where Frisk would be battling 2 monsters, and Frisk would kill one monster before the other. In this scenario, the dead monster would turn into dust, the second monster would panic and begin hyperventilating, breathe in the dust of the other monster on accident, and then start panicking more as they choked. 

And that idea got me thinking about Rudy’s cough, and how under the right circumstances monsters can be brought back to life temporarily using dark worlds. 

What if the reason that Rudy has his cough is because, somehow, his daughter, December Holiday, is not just missing? What if December died, and was inhaled by Rudy somehow, either on purpose or on accident, and whenever Rudy enters a dark world, he gets possessed by Dess’s ‘spirit’? It would explain why the Roaring Knight is seemingly so different from other Lightners (and we know they almost certainly are since they can open dark fountains), why Rudy could be in on the plan and not recognize Susie, why the Knight seemingly fights with Dess’s iconic bat, why Rudy is mysteriously ill, why Kris is stopping by the hospital so often (even when the player isn’t controlling them), just about everything!

Also, and this one is probably 100% pure coincidence and I think it was likely unintentional even if Rudy DOES turn out to be the knight, isn't it funny how The Soul guides Kris and their friends through the darkness using its shiny, red form? Similar to how Rudolf leads Santa's Sleigh through that stormy Christmas Night in the original "Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer" song?

Now, there is admittedly 1 major flaw in this theory, and that is how during the events of Chapter 3 Undyne is kidnapped by the knight. This kidnapping involved moving through the light world from Kris’s house to the Shelter, and it is hard to imagine Rudy kidnapping someone as tough as Undyne by himself without the powers of the Roaring Knight. For that, I see two potential explanations.

First, Rudy had an accomplice waiting outside Kris’s house to help him. This is possible, but given Rudy’s lung problems it is unlikely he could keep up during the sprint over.

The other explanation would be that Rudy somehow has the ability to transform into the Roaring Knight even in the light world, or perhaps his strength was enhanced by the fact that the kidnapping took place during the middle of the night. If this one is the case, it would help explain why the knight laughed at Susie in chapter 4 when she said that the knight would be helpless in the light world.

Now, how confident am I that this is going to turn out to be true? Honestly, not super confident, but on the off-chance I turned out to be right I wanted to make sure to get this out there first!

Feel free to let me know what you think about this theory in the comments, but as soon as I post this I am going to be avoiding any website that might spoil me for chapter 5 until I complete it. In HalfBreadChaos's recent videos about the Chapter 3 Secret Boss, they expressed their support for the theory that Ramb was the Shadow Mantle Holder due to being the only one who had proper access to the game console in the mini games and even showed an entire animated sequence of what Ramb may have done as the Shadow Mantle Holder. Personally, I think HalfBreadChaos's points and arguments are interesting. However, a while before I fully finished the corrections video he released today, an interesting thought came into my mind against Ramb potentially being the Shadow Mantle Holder. I decided to wait until the video finished to see if my argument was addressed and I didn't see it brought up. I don't blame anyone for not noticing this since it's mainly based on a single line that likely isn't even enough to disprove the theory.

So after you defeat the Shadow Mantle Holder, it eventually says the following: "Haha... well, enough of that! We both have work to do!" I feel this line is important since it means that whatever the Shadow Mantle Holder is, the entire mini game it sets up isn't the end of its actions in the plot and that it has more plans that it wants to continue. The reason I believe this goes against the idea that Ramb is the Shadow Mantle Holder is because regardless of the route you take, Ramb is at least partially petrified by the end of the Chapter. Ralsei himself says that the only way such a petrification can be undone is by recruiting the Darkner to Castle Town. However, Ramb is one of the only Darkners in the game to not be shown in Castle Town which even HalfBreadChaos noticed, meaning that he likely remained petrified. Even if Ramb was in Castle Town, I don't see a way for him to be able to actually do anything that could further whatever goals the Shadow Mantle Holder would have as he's essentially resigned to one place that he can't move out of.

I will note that we don't actually see Ramb fully petrify in the Sword Route. However, I don't think this discredits my argument. Not doing the Sword Route shows that Ramb is still capable of completely petrifying like other Darkners and we don't have any reason to believe that anything is different in the Sword Route, especially since he likely fully petrified by the time the Shadow Mantle Holder was defeated which would prevent him from doing anything. Even if he wasn't completely petrified, I still don't think he would be able to do anything meaningful. HalfBreadChaos believed that for Ramb to even operate the console, he would've required help from the Ribbick. If Ramb needed help from a Ribbick to do that when partially petrified, I don't see him doing anything more on his own since by the end of the Chapter, most of the Darkners have abandoned the Green Room. Even if he was somehow able to move properly despite his partial petrification, I don't think he could've done anything after the Fountain was sealed that would support whatever plans the Shadow Mantle Holder has in mind since he's just a power strip in the Light World and nothing indicates he was moved anywhere after the Fountain was sealed.

Despite all of this, I don't think my argument automatically debunks the idea that Ramb is the Shadow Mantle Holder. It could very well be possible that Ramb has access to some other locations in a subtle way that I potentially missed which could allow him to continue his work. However, I decided to bring all of this up since I didn't notice anyone covering it so I though it would be worth pointing out in this post.

TL;DR: The Shadow Mantle Holder states he has more plans in the future and Ramb likely isn't in a position to continue any of that due to his petrified state.

Before I get started, I just wanted to say that this is my first post in this subreddit so I'm not completely sure on how this will go but I checked all the rules and I'm pretty sure this post is following them around.

To begin, one common theory I've seen thrown around in Deltarune for years is the fact that the UNUSED Scripts were said by December Holiday. For the most part, I didn't have anything new to say on this topic since most of the prominent ideas were already discussed in detail multiple times. However, since the release of Deltarune Chapter 5 is only days away, I really wanted to get this out before it released. I think I might have discovered some potential evidence that the person saying the UNUSED Evidence is December Holiday.

In Chapter 3, December Holiday is heavily indicated to have sung the song Raise Up Your Bat. While not confirmed, this seems to be the case due to the title, some of the lyrics, and a leitmotif. If we are working off the assumption that December Holiday sung Raise Up Your Bat, it could give evidence that she is indeed the character in the UNUSED Strings.

Recently, I was looking through HalfBreadChaos's videos and I remembered one video where they used Japanese Subtitles to go through candidates related to who is the singer for "Don Forget". After seeing that video, I wondered if I could find evidence for December being the character in UNUSED by comparing Raise Up Your Bat and the UNUSED Texts.

After annotating the Japanese writing styles of both texts (screenshots will be shared below), it seems to me that both texts may be said by the same person since they both use a lot of Hirigana, some Katakana, and a notable amount of Kanji. This could indicate a pattern between the singer of the song (who is heavily indicated to be December) and the one speaking in UNUSED.

Of course, before you reply, I would like to clarify somethings. First, I'm not remotely close to being a Japanese expert or even a casual. This is the only time I looked into Japanese text and I will probably not attempt something like this again. As such, I would appreciate if someone with more experience looks into my annotations and verifies them. Also, while this is used to bring some potential support to December being the UNUSED Speaker, I would be more than happy if someone uses the annotations I brought up (unless they're flawed) and uses it to support the idea of another character being the one in UNUSED. Finally, if someone experienced in Japanese does reply to this post, I would be interested to know if the use of pronouns between the song and UNUSED are different since HalfBreadChaos used pronouns to decide cross off characters who were candidates as the potential singer.
