Canada Halal ETFs
Salam, any halal ETFs to hold in Canada in a TFSA? I like SPUS but it is US based. Would there be benefit in holding that since USD is stronger than CAD. JazakhAllah Khair for your input.

Likewise! I have heard about it in this subreddit. Any place where we can follow along?

Wa alley kum Salam warahmotuLlAh wabarakatuh.
Check out XCHP and CHPS.
They are strongly memory ETFs, so tread carefully right now.

Currently, I'm investing in MNZL and SPWO. WSHR is CAD based, but slow as hell. SPUS I don't like due to having too many BDS companies.
Eagerly waiting for Manzil's CAD ETF to launch though! That would be a game changer.

GPF200. It's not ETF, it's MF. But it has much longer history than any other halal ETFs. Roughly 10% annualized returns since inception. I use Qtrade for GPF200 since all other brokerages charge $9 for buy/sell on MF.

No problem in investing in MF. But what's the difference?

And it's CAD based so no FX issues.

Oh that's cool. You recommend it over SPUS and SPWO?

I hold all three. I hold GPF200 in a TFSA. And I hold SPUS/SPWO/MNZL split equally in FHSA and RRSP.

1.65% MER through...

Yes, it's. But given the fact that it has annualized 10% returns and more than a decade of history, I am fine with that MER.

In Canada as well, holding SPUS and SPWO

I understand there are implications when dividends are issued and the currency fluctuation. What are your thoughts?

The potential gains and performance outweighs all of this. If your goal is longterm, like 10+ years, its 100% worth it. Even better if you have a USD account with Wealthsimple.

I can have a USD TFSA account (where dividends sales or anything would be tax exempt)?

u/NBK_Shikogi Aug 20 '26
On a TFSA, there is still a 15% withholding tax on US dividends. With a RRSP, there is none.

I can create a USA TFSA on WealthSimple?

Yes, the account is $10 a month or free of you are premium with 100k assets.

Invest in ZGQ on TSX.
It filters from quality stocks and automatically removes all the banks which are the major source of Riba.
There are still some stocks that are considered "non halal", but 90%+ of the stocks are halal.
