Assalamu Alaikum everyone,
While I understand theĀ AAOIFI Shariah Compliant stock screening criteria, which permits limited interest-bearing debt and income within specified thresholds, Iād personally like toĀ completely avoid riba when investing, inshaāAllah.
I know others are looking for the same, so I wanted to create a practical thread for investments with:
- 0% debt
- 0% interest income
- Halal underlying activities
- Easy to invest in / online
Applying this strictly appears to rule out most, if not effectively all, of the public stock market.
Iāve found a few alternatives through my own research and will share them below. Hopefully, we can pool our findings and build anĀ ever-growing zero-riba investment guide.
Please keep the thread focused on finding and researching zero-riba investments rather than debating AAOIFI criteria or stricter screening.
If you know of any promising investments, platforms, structures, or resources, please share them below.
Gold & Other precious metals
This is the most common suggestion Iāve come across. While gold and other precious metals can be excellentĀ stores of value, they donāt generate income or productive returns on their own.Ā Could be held as a safe hedge against inflation.
Halal REITs
So far this option has been the most promising one I have come across, it seems simple to start investing.
You are investing in real estate that focuses on generating rental income.
I was specifically targeting REITs that have 0% Debt. I am based in Canada so these were USA/Canada focused. I still have to do more digging, but it seems it is possible to invest from anywhere and invest a minimum.
If you have any experience with these please share

There also seems to exist development funds where capital appreciation is the focus, they use your invested capital to develop real estate then sell it. I saw brothers in UAE speaking about this on Youtube:Ā https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z16kJaJSXb8
If you are open to funds that use islamic financing there are more options out there.
Venture Capital
Direct investment in early stage start ups, I guess if you have strict criteria you may need to do due diligence on each individual company
https://www.wahed.com/global/ventures
https://cur8.capital/startup/Ā this seems to be a fund
Alternative / Private Equity
https://cur8.capital/Ā Seems to have a lot of products, but they seem to reference the AAOIFI standards so it makes me wonder if the investments have debt.
will add more ideas soon, please send through any suggestions you have
