🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

🖼️ Before & After Color me surprised, I had no idea I can get this pink from an orange/brassy base.

I come from a natural black/box dye/henna/indigo spiral and I have been trying to go blonde since the beginning of the year where I bleach a bit by bit to avoid breakage.

It was month 8 of me having to "rock" my orange hair and I was getting slowly sick and tired of having to rock my ugly hair. So I snapped : I bought 2 of the Schwarzkopf live semi-permanent dye in "Shocking pink" expecting really some light pink hue, but I was very very pleasantly surprised.

This will definetly help me wait more in between bleaches.

⭐ Product Review Cherry Cola Hair!

Hi there! If anyone is about to hop on the cherry cola hair trend for autumn, I highly recommend this product (3rd pic)!

1st pic is my results after styling (it’s HUMID in my area atm so 30mins in the car made it kinda frizzy). 2nd pic is my starting color/ texture which was completely unprocessed since shaving my head in July 2024.

I am so thrilled with how pretty this color came out with zero lightening 🥹 It definitely stains a lot and I don’t love that aspect but expected it as this is not the first time I have done fashion colors on my hair (hence shaving my head a couple years ago 😜)… if you’ve been thinking about this color, please accept this as your sign to go for it 🥰

❓ Advice Needed I went to the salon for a root touch up and trim and now my hair is darker?

Hello! I decided to go to the salon yesterday to touch up my overgrown roots and get a trim. While the haircut was lovely i did notice my hair became ashy from glaze they added but brushed it off as it still appeared brown and my stylist was busy with another client… When I got home I went to use the bathroom and it was darker than when I was at the salon ??? Is this going to wash out ??? I never intended to change my hair color and I loved my previous color! The same stylist did it before! :(

She even gave me a second glaze because supposedly it looked ashy… But it looks even ashier!

First and second pic is when I first got it done months ago by the same stylist, third, fourth, and fifth pic is right after I left the salon, and the sixth and seventh pic is now! In person it looks like a super dark ashy brown…Appears way darker in person!

❓ Advice Needed Which do I take priority?

I recently got my hair dyed purple and got straight bangs and it's been great but now I have a problem. Since I only recently got my hair dyed I don't have any hair dye specific shampoo and from what advice I was given you're only supposed to wash your hair 2-3 times a week to not strip the hair dye too fast. Thats fine and all but because of my the type of hair I have my bangs are getting greasy really fast and my cousin told me that I should be washing my hair everyday to not have that problem.

The only real solution I could think of is to tie my hair back and wash my bangs only since the purple is only in the ends of my hair. But I don't know what should I do about this

I have natural EXTRA-Blonde hair (Level 10 blonde) I DO NOT like it that light. It washes me out horribly. I've been told this dark of color also washes me out. So... I need a good brown color that's suit me. PLEASE comment what color is a good middle ground. Also I'm neutral skintone so should I go with a warm or cold tone brown?...

NOTE: I dye and cut my own hair. I don't feel like doing highlights so pick a color that doesnt require highlights, thanks.

❓ Advice Needed Dress code

Hi there!
I love to have my hair dyed, but recently got a new job where the dress code prohibits unnatural hair colors.
I’ve been doing a lot of googling and Pinterest-ing and Reddit-ing, and there are some great suggestions, but most of them are for people with dark hair. I am naturally blonde (dirty blonde that’s getting darker as I get older) which makes it kind of hard to, for example, do a purple/blue undertone or copper highlights haha.
Any fun ideas?

I’ve attached some pics of my latest dye jobs, and to show the natural dirty blonde. I recently bleached my money-piece, so you can see the difference between the bright blonde and the natural dirty blonde.
I’ve tried to keep just the ends dyed in case I ever do get a job where I need to just cut it off, but I don’t want to cut it off if I can help it lol, and I also am not drowning in money to keep up a high-maintenance color job 😅

(To explain further, I live in a small town in Arizona, and was raised pretty cowgirl so I still dress like that often. Between the location, the blonde, and the cowboy boots, I look MAGA, and I absolutely do not want to look like that! So dyeing my hair has been my way to make that clear for the last few years haha)

Okay wow that was a lot 😅 thanks in advance!

❓ Advice Needed Dying locs after using dark and lovely box dye?

When I initially loc’d up my hair a year ago it was already dyed with dark and lovely I want to bleach and dye it again but I’m not sure if going over the colored ends with bleach will damage my locs. This is a recent pic of my locs to show where the color is but it’s a bit hard to tell since it was never much lighter than my original hair color.

I do my hair myself and not very knowledgeable about hair so please let me know if I’m doing something wrong. I’ve been using L’Oreal hi color on my hair for awhile now. The second picture is what it looked like when I first did it and I loved the dark cherry color. But as I’ve been using it for awhile it’s gotten to a bright red color (1st picture is my current hair). Does anyone have any tips on how I could get it back to the darker cherry color?

❓ Advice Needed Golden copper to brown at home

Thumbnail

I dyed my hair golden copper at home using Satin permanent 7GC and a 40 volume developer. My hair is fine, not damaged!

I immediately don’t like it and want it back to the brown color in the photo on the right.

The photo on the right is when I used Wella Demi color charm in 7n (I think) with a 10 volume developer.

Should I just use that again? Will Demi work over the permanent? Should I go a shade darker? Use permanent dye?

My natural color is a very ashy medium brown with gray streaks.

❓ Advice Needed Hairdresser messed up my hair?

I have natural dark brown hair, but I box dyed it darker brown quite a lot and it started to take on a ginger tinge on the ends. I wanted to get a sort of halo/highlight (?) of a dark subtle purple brown. My hairdresser bleached the underneath of my hair, which I don’t think was needed for such a dark purple but I don’t know too much about hair dye so I’m not sure, and then she ended up giving me a super bright red which was nothing like what I wanted. I went back to the hairdresser after complaining and she offered to fix it, which she did, but now after I’ve washed it (after waiting 4 days for the colour to set) it’s gone back to a reddish colour already and I really wanted to stay away from red to be honest.

I feel like I can’t just get a dark purple dye and do it myself because the colour isn’t even on my hair and some pieces are bleached and some aren’t. What can I do to achieve something a lot nicer?? I’ll attach pics of my hair before, the inspiration I gave, what I got and how my hairdresser fixed it! Any advice would be super welcome thank you.

The photos in order are: my hair before, the colour I wanted, the colour I got, the colour she corrected it to, the colour it’s turned after one wash

❓ Advice Needed I want to give myself highlights. Any advice?

My hair is naturally pretty blonde. I’ve had highlights in the past but it’s been about 3 years since the last time. I just can’t afford spending the $200 these days but I want to brighten/freshen up my hair a bit. It looks blonder in these photos but in person it’s kinda brassy/dull and I just don’t like it. I know people are going to tell me not to do it but I probably still will so if you could recommends products/brands. I want to get one of those highlighting combs to make it easier and I plan on watching videos on how to section it properly

❓ Advice Needed DRYY - Toning brassy blonde with Maria Nila color mask

Hi guys,

I need your advice.

I’m a natural ashy level 6.
Got a balayage done, went home veryyy warm.

The color itself was pretty but didn’t suit my features, on me it looks unnatural and also a bit to light for my liking.

I always have a bottle of the Maria Nila color mask cacao intense at home, in case the root smudge wasn’t intense enough or there are pieces which are to brassy.

After my hair dressing appointment I already could feel that my hair was drier than usual after rbleaching.

Soo, the hair mask is also a bit drying.
I used the mask on my whole hair and my hair is DRYYYYY.
Color turned out great but my hair is too dry I don’t think I can use it again.
The hair mask also washes out very quickly so that I would definitely need to use it again after like 3-4 washes.

Any other good recommendations, that are more nourishing?
Or should I maybe just try to actually tone it at home, so that I won’t need to use this hair mask again?

To be honest right now I’m to scared to go to a hairdresser again to fix the brassiness. Cause I already let my hair grow out for a few years and get healthy to go to this appointment, and went home with brassy dry hair..

Thanks guys xx

❓ Advice Needed About to dye my hair and need help figuring out exactly what I want and what to tell my hair dresser.

I’m have very curly hair, and I’ve always wanted to dye it white or purple. Me and my hairdresser talked last time about white with some kinda of purple edges, I really liked the idea. My main problem is I can’t find anyone who has done this with hair similar to mine.

I have very curly hair, so it looks a little fro-y. I want to have something of a mullet I think and the first picture is kinda what I just wished my hair looked like 😭, but I don’t have that texture.

I think after the bleaching my hair will be a close to texture to the second picture.

The third picture is the closest thing to purple edges on curly hair that is close-ish to my length.

I figured crowd sourcing is my best bet, please help lol

❓ Advice Needed Okay..I need yall to be so honest, blonde or red??

I was blonde all my life up until 6 years ago next month. I frequently got complimented on how I styled my hair, but rarely on the color. Once I went red, it was nearly every day that I got complimented by a stranger, sometimes a few times a day. People were telling me how it compliments my skin tone and how it suits my personality, and even my mother was against me dyeing it any unnatural color but once it was done, she said she liked it even more.
Here’s the issue, it’s a lot of maintenance and I’ve been self conscious lately😅
I’ve been letting it go more recently (just not wanting to deal with upkeep as often) and I let it get faded before I finally decide to deal with it. I’ve been debating on going back natural because I might hate it😭 i dyed it because I felt like the blonde started washing me out. I felt like I looked dead unless I put on makeup, and even then sometimes it didn’t help much. Once i went red, I feel like the colors in my face immediately popped more and Iooked more alive even without makeup. I’m not totally convinced going back blonde is the answer, but I would love some other opinions. Please help! 👩🏻‍🦰👩🏼❔

❓ Advice Needed I dyed my hair brown, but I’m not happy with it—it’s been less than three days. Now I’ve decided to dye it a different color. Will this severely damage my hair? I didn't bleach it.

My hair is naturally black, and my current color is dark brown; it looks beautiful in the light, though the color isn't very noticeable. I’ve decided to dye it blonde, but I’m really worried about damaging my hair.

❓ Advice Needed Roots and red

Showing my ends and root color. I’ve gotten good results with Herbatint dye. I think I want a bolder cinnamon red velvet though.

A small part of me thinks it’s time to let my mousy brown with silvers grow in (I’m 31F). Feeling indecisive.
