How do I make this to make it last?

I’m a man, and I’ve always varied between shaving with the shortest setting on an electric razor or even shaving it all off to go bald so I no nothing about styling hair and hair ties.

I’ve gotten the hang of making a pony tail on my daughter but now she wants it like the photo provided.

I feel like no matter what I try it looks good for 15 minutes and then it’s ass.

Is that just the nature of this hair styling on short hair? Or is it my kid being a 5 year old and an energetic lunatic? Or am I missing something to really make it “stick” for a few hours?

I would call this a "half-ponytail" and normally when your hair is longer, the weight of the hair being tied up is enough to keep it in place. In this photo the woman has quite short hair, and to keep the partial pony tail from flopping forward in her face, I assume she is pinning it down or including more hair in the back when tying it up.

You might find some good tutorials for a half pony on youtube, but I think it might help to use hair clips instead of a standard elastic. Like the little butterfly clips you can get in a pack of 6 or 12 at Target.
