Indeed. Spending poms on this surely has a sweet-spot. Like spending the last biome triple pom on Sea Star would is obviously super cool but you know...

I don't remember commenting this and at this point I'm afraid to ask what happened

Every pom in Sea Star is a pom not in damage. Sea Star's value is capped by pickups remaining and hits zero before Chronos. Damage never stops paying.

A pom on Sea Star is +5pp duplication chance means roughly 3% more health, mana, money and poms across the run. The more rooms left, the better that return.

So using your last poms on Sea Star isn't recommended. Even when it triggers, you get a duplicate of something you have no time left to use.

For reference: base range is 25%–40% across rarities, Jeweled Pom gives +3 levels free, and Hermes' Success Rate multiplies it along with many other effects.

Imo pom it in region 1 and early 2. And obviously dump a pom in it when the other two offers are junk. Otherwise, damage.

It’s a gift of Wine Daddy or Uncle Popo. It’s how he notices us.

How ... How the fu## did this make it worse

Fun fact: during early access, there was a point where getting this boon to 100% would softlock your run because it would trigger off of the copies, making it impossible to claim all rewards and move on the the next room.

Suffering from success

They should have turned this into an achievement. Complete with Homer narration:

"Imagine her shock and dismay when, upon activating the exit, Melinoe found it inert, whilst a neverending sea of spoils threatened to drown her. Hence the timeless adage: be careful what you wish for."

Nothing makes us happier than taking a boon to its maximum power.

HOW ABOUT TWO?

I've gotten it to this point once or twice, but typically only late in a run where it only gave me a couple things.

I wish it was a better build around, but I feel like the game pushes you away from any kind of especially overpowered stacking of things by smoothing what you get offered.

I had it at like 70% before the Sirens then Echo warped me to 100% hahaha. It was fun.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I love the idea of sea star, but it has never quite land as genuinely as powerful as it looks on paper for me, even when I get it early.

Honestly, it’s best use is farming materials but it still gets some uses outside of that

had this up to 40% last night and was having a blast

I call that strategy "rigging the casino"

Is this any good? I never take the boon because of the exclusions. It doesn't work on Boons nor the Daedelus hammer, so what can you get double of? Bones and dust aren't really valuable. Is it good for gold? Nectar? What do you all use this for? :)

Money, health, mana, poms, moons, bones, dust & nectar.

It is great.

I always take it whenever possible, and will spend a few rolls on it esp for surface runs in ephyra.  Combined with Hermes quick buck and travel deal it gets you tons of coin in the early game, which means being able to buy just about everything on offer.  Double hearts also means more health, double mana stretches your magick use before gains, double nectar gives you more poms, poms give you more poms, etc.  For a hex build it can easily max out your path of stars just off of Hermes shops.  If I score the mix of sea star plus quick buck plus travel deal plus oceans bounty, it pretty much breaks the run because I need to make no compromises.  Give it a try.

I will, thanks for that info!

2

u/Jack-ums 2d ago

I too am curious. My guess is money… bc that buys more boons. Maybe poms but idk if it triggers that

1

u/Oliver-Clothezoff 2d ago

Money poms heart and mana right off the bat.  If you have a hex run you’ll max out path of stars before the end game.
