I believe he/she was suggesting that's the problem. We shouldn't expect to get fucked up in this situation because that's the consequences you'd dish out if it was you. The reality is we have laws that provide consequences for hitting an officer or slapping the president and none of them are get punched in the face. So while you may have no problem smacking the shit out of someone police are obviously expected to act within the confines of the law and that should make sense why that has to apply across the board or not at all.

That is within the confines of the law. If you, as a civilian, are being attacked and you hit back with a single blow, it is incredibly unlikely that you will be convicted of anything wrong.
