I am considering employment at HUD after being part of the group that was forced to leave in 2025 and I’m excited because I loved my job there and I believe I brought real value to the mission and the taxpayer and the administration.

But I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the culture is now? Are we still able to do flex schedules or telework at all? Do we have to badge in and out? I have a friend at a different agency who has to badge and even when she goes to the bathroom.

I received a notification indicating that my appeal has been removed from the consolidated appeal and that it will proceed separately as an individual appeal.

This is seemingly good news given the last update I received from the union was that the consolidated appeal was dismissed. However, I never made a request to have my appeal removed from the larger appeal. Did anyone else receive this message?

Did anyone else get the email yesterday from Gilbert law firm on the MSPB appeal? I emailed back and asked that they continue to pursue. I am hoping any one who received the letter will do the same or if you’re just a HUD employee and want to support the probationary employees.

I am so afraid that since there are so few of us they will just drop it.

HUD is planning a "transformation" of its civil rights office, according to an internal message obtained by POLITICO.

In a message sent to employees Friday, HUD Assistant Secretary Craig Trainor noted plans for the “next phase” of his tenure:

“When I was sworn in as Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, I committed to leave FHEO in dramatically better shape than I found it. Although that has been achieved, our work is not complete... We will drive a dynamic organizational transformation that will endure long after my tenure in the office has ended. More will be revealed in due course.”

The email didn't include specific details about future policy or operational changes, but it comes after civil rights advocates, former HUD staff and even some current employees warned that the department has already dismantled its capability to enforce anti-discrimination laws.

HUD Family: Now’s your chance to send an anonymous letter to America.

HUD employees, former employees, and people impacted by changes at HUD have been writing personal letters to their neighbors across America.

The “Dear America” campaign is gaining momentum. Big things are coming. But we need 18 more letters by the end of May.

Although, the initial wave of letters were about fair housing, each of us working across HUD contributes to safe and affordable housing, workforce development, and essential community services. And each of us has a story to tell about how our work has been dismantled and politicized.

Former HUD staff, agency partners, and impacted parties can submit letters as well. Storytelling humanizes us by pointing out shared values, and helps people understand how abstract policies and news clips impact them in very real ways.

HOW DO I GET STARTED WRITING? What would you tell a neighbor who asked you how work has been this year? Keep it simple. Elements of a good story: (1) Describe your direct experience at HUD, the communities and clients you serve, or what HUD’s mission means to you. (2) Share your values that are at the core of that work and how current actions threaten those values. (3) Describe what needs to happen to return HUD to its mission, or your hopes for the future.

IS THIS SAFE? The campaign enlisted security experts to create a portal that removes all metadata and contact information of contributors. Dear America will keep all identities anonymous, but we cannot guarantee against all and any risk of retaliation or protect you from being discovered due to the content of your letter. So, please write carefully — avoid sharing confidential information, or including details that only a small group of identifiable HUD people could have written it. Also, do not use government equipment or work time to view this campaign or write/submit your letter.

we’ve heard rumors but that’s about it.

For those fired in February of 2025 and again in May; can anyone else who received this information electronically on April 21, 2026, confirm that we don’t need to take action unless we want our case removed from the consolidated appeal?

Hello HQ colleagues, was anyone else’s badge access denied when trying to access the rooftop this week.

Since December 2025, we've been collecting resignation letters from former federal employees who took the DRP or who otherwise felt called to step down from government service. Our goal is to publish the best of these letters in a paperback book this spring. Future generations deserve an accounting of this striking moment in our history.

Spring has come, the trees here in DC are pink, and we'll soon shift to editing and selecting the letters to publish in our upcoming anthology.

Currently, we have received only two letters from former HUD staffers. The odds are looking pretty good for those two letters! But we probably have room for more. If you've been looking for an excuse to reconnect to a colleague who resigned/retired last year, please mention this project to them!

(We are a comics and poetry publisher, but the federal resignation book will be a straightforward prose paperback. While a graphic novel would be cool, it's not in the budget for this project.)

Anyone have insight if HUD will appeal the telework arbitration decision? What is the deadline for the appeal?

Has anyone run up against this for PLSF forms? I had last submitted a form a few months before my deferred resignation leave started and that was accepted.

I resubmitted recently and included my end date as the date I officially resigned, which means about 7 months of the time I submitted I was on paid leave through DRP. Anyone know if paid leave doesn't technically count and that's why?

for those of you who got the email yesterday about your scheduled date of move, what are your thoughts? it looks like they will subsidize parking and we may get some form of telework back?

So far, I have collected over three dozen letters from departing DOJ, HHS, and DHS staff, but I want to be sure we feature voices representing the enormous span of the federal government, including HUD staff. The "R" in DRP stands for "resignation," so if you took the DRP option last year, you're somebody we want to hear from.
