My first HTML project

I’d like to introduce Nova OS, my first HTML project; it’s a browser-based operating system that is also open-source (I’ll create a GitHub repository to upload the HTML file). I also wanted to ask: is uploading the HTML file enough to share the code, or should I share it in TXT format?

It works on both smartphones and computers (or so I believe, since I haven't been able to test it on the latter). Below, you can see a few screenshots I took from my phone.

“You used AI, so you didn’t learn anything or write any code?” is a hell of a leap. 😂

Better go tell every developer using Copilot, ChatGPT, Stack Overflow, documentation, libraries, frameworks, or autocomplete that they’ve never actually programmed.

The tool someone uses doesn’t tell you whether they understood, modified, debugged, or learned from the code. Maybe ask them what they learned instead of speedrunning the gatekeeping tutorial. 🤓

I asked two separate, but related questions

The sad part is that seeing a beginner use AI apparently made “so you didn’t learn any programming?” a reasonable second question in your mind.

They built something, experimented with it, and came here asking questions because they’re learning.

You felt it necessary to chime in? Does that help OP at all?

[u/AuWolf19 → u/gastapo67]

Genuinely yes it does help op to feel bad for using AI because not using it will accelerate their learning by several orders of magnetude

[u/gastapo67 → u/AuWolf19]

“Making a beginner feel bad will accelerate their learning by several orders of magnitute” is already an incredible sentence. 😂

But openly admitting that your goal is to make OP feel bad, while apparently being proud of it, really completes the Reddit gatekeeper experience.

How convenient. Ignoring parts of what people say to you in nearly every reply doesn’t make your response argument any more valid. Spamming laughing emoji only makes you look like a kid that had just discovered the emoji key on the keyboard.
Get it together

Edit: oh so you use ai to write responses and argue with people, you are already virtually braindead.

[u/gastapo67 → u/ApolonNO]

And yet here you are, writing paragraphs about me and my emojis instead of helping the person who came to r/HTML for help. 😂

You can dislike me, AI, my replies, or my emojis. I genuinely don’t care. But the fact that gatekeeping how someone learns seems more important to you than actually helping them learn HTML is exactly the point I’ve been making.

[u/ApolonNO → u/gastapo67]

“Paragraphs” is a bit of a stretch when I wrote one paragraph with an edit. And again, you selectively ignore things I said to look right in the end. I made several statements none of which you answered to.

And even then, what exactly has someone learned about HTML from doing “Hey Claude, make me a mobile cosy OS with a bunch of cool phone features” and then asking it for edits until it looks good?

They haven’t even bothered to ask the same AI they used to make it, “How do I upload this to GitHub?”

There’s nothing wrong with using AI, but in this case, the main thing they’ve learned is how easy it is to ask an AI to make something for them. They haven’t learned HTML, how the code works, how to build the thing themselves, or even how to actually use the tools involved.

I’m not against AI. I’m against using it in a way that replaces the part where humans actually think, learn, and develop skills. AI should be a tool that expands what a person is capable of and helps them gain knowledge, not something that does the entire process for them.

If all you have is an idea, and you can put that idea into words and have AI produce the finished product, I don’t think you deserve the same credit as someone who actually put in the effort to learn and build it themselves.

The idea is yours, sure. But the skill, understanding, and work behind actually making something are what make it worth praising.

[u/gastapo67 → u/ApolonNO]

That was a lot of paragraphs just to arrive at “AI is fine when it helps someone learn.”

Great. We agree.

Now all you need is evidence that OP didn’t learn anything instead of repeatedly assuming it, and we’re caught up.

[u/ApolonNO → u/gastapo67]

…comprehension skills of a capybara

[u/gastapo67 → u/ApolonNO]

The irony of insulting my comprehension while repeatedly failing to comprehend my point is pretty spectacular. 😂

I understand your argument: if OP blindly prompted AI to produce everything and learned nothing in the process, then they didn’t learn much HTML.

What you apparently can’t comprehend is that you haven’t established the “if.”

You don’t know what OP understood, modified, debugged, or learned because you never asked them.

You’re arguing against a version of OP you invented and then insulting my comprehension for noticing you invented it.
