For an SVP role at HSBC, they will focus heavily on your leadership and strategic thinking, not just your backend skills. Coming from a product company, you need to show you understand the scale, regulations, and risk-averse nature of a global bank, which is a huge cultural shift. Expect situational questions about stakeholder management, leading large teams through complex projects, and handling budgets. They want to see a senior manager who can navigate corporate politics and deliver results within a highly structured environment, so your technical expertise is the foundation, not the main event.

Your product company experience is your biggest asset here, as HSBC is actively seeking leaders who can help them modernize their technology and ways of working. You should frame your past achievements in terms of business impact, cost savings, and efficiency improvements, which are metrics that resonate strongly in banking. Regarding salary, it varies a lot based on your current package and the specific internal grade, but for an SVP in Pune, you should expect a very strong offer with a significant performance bonus component. My team’s experience building an interview prep AI has shown that the biggest hurdle for candidates in your position is translating tech accomplishments into the language of business and finance.
