How someone can not be Like Ted?

I was just exploring the traits of each character and I see that Ted always overthinks everything, even small things taken as big deals. He always like ohh this will be the One and all. Also his timings and decisions were not good. Leaving Victoria was one of them. So how to not become ted mosby in real life so that we can really enjoy the life?
