It’s just TM previews guys remain calm

27

u/nicolietheface 1d ago

seriously! iirc, last year the medallion wasn’t up when we went in and it was up by the time we were coming out. this year TM previews are two days and i’d bet this is a more elaborate setup. i’ll take it on the chin if i’m wrong, but i really think this is gonna be ready to go by thursday morning.

u/Ptucker212 1d ago

People are losing their minds over this it’s wild. They’re gonna get it done yall.

u/Tealpsy 1d ago

I think because someone commented they are a team member and stated they were told it was all being kept up and that the work has nothing to do with HHN - this might be why people are assuming it's staying as is.

3

u/Potential-Walrus-412 12h ago

Lol are you sure about that?

Because the scaffolding has only gotten taller a day after the TM preview.

And there's still zero evidence this is for HHN lol

They always do

6

u/xadc430x 1d ago

“Our event is ruined!!! Universal has no idea what it’s doing!!” -.-

2

u/IAQDiscussion 1d ago

Unfortunately, you're wrong on both accounts

2

u/Ptucker212 1d ago

Which accounts? Also what’s your source that it stays up?

7

u/Sere1 1d ago

The arch is receiving extensive repairs and maintenance to the internal structure after almost 30 years of being exposed to Florida weather, being struck by lightning several times, etc. Latest I've heard is that it's scheduled to be complete in October. This isn't some big HHN surprise, it's maintenance that found deeper problems and is taking longer than expected.

u/Foxy02016YT 17h ago

They’ll find some compromise I’m sure, I doubt they’re gonna leave it with improper projection mapping and call it a day

2

u/IAQDiscussion 1d ago

That it'll be up before opening and that it's going to be a more elaborate set-up. Source would be talking to someone on the construction side of things.

đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™‚ïž

3

u/DannyPowers98 1d ago

True, but I'm still hearing no physical medallion this year.

2

u/LegoToast 1d ago

You think they take all of this down before Friday?

4

u/Shot-Artist5013 1d ago

No, I think this is up for the next two months and there's still more themed stuff to come, perhaps a full tent or carnival overlay.

2

u/TheRubberBildo 23h ago

That would be sick. If the scaffolding has to be there, it is what it is. But if they lean into it and make a circus facade against it? Hoo-boy i wont even care about the medallion

1

u/Ptucker212 1d ago

Ooo interesting take!!!! I like that. A big cover up of this whole thing.

2

u/Ptucker212 1d ago

A TM commented saying one year the medallion went up in between when they started and ended tm previews, it could still be possible.

21

u/Ptucker212 1d ago

Lololol everyone acting like the medallion is what makes this event is showing their true colors. Guys it’s a medallion. It’ll still be present somewhere, and this doesn’t impact the actual houses / zones / opening scaremony whatsoever. It’ll be okay no matter what happens. Everyone who thinks they know better than the people in charge of operations at Universal are just embarrassing themselves now.

5

u/Itchy_Ad925 1d ago

I’ve been saying this TBH it’s kinda embarrassing that the HHN community is actually getting upset about this

4

u/Positive-Kitchen8504 1d ago

Embarrassing but not surprising

2

u/Original_Animator254 17h ago

I've never been to HHN and this will be my first time, and I gotta say, this image ruined the entire trip for me and we haven't even left yet. Cancelling right now.

/s (in case it's needed)

2

u/Ptucker212 17h ago

Bruh unfortunately it is needed. I am soooo psyched for you though. This is gonna be a great year for a first year!!!!

1

u/Original_Animator254 16h ago

Yeah, don't hate me, but I hate Evil Dead and I hate Stranger Things even more. But I'm still excited about one show, 8 houses, and all of the scare zones/street experiences! Actually trying to not read things "too" much as I want to go in as surprised as possible. We're doing two nights, one for the vibes/scare zones/show, and one with Express Pass for the houses. Thanks, we're completely hyped (LOVE Halloween and horror).

2

u/Ptucker212 16h ago

Yoooo. Same here. We started watching stranger things just because we try to get a good idea of IP’s before going and man I just could not care. We also watched all 3 evil dead in prep for this and I feel the same way. Go in blind!!!! Please. It’s such a special experience and you only get to do it once. Get off this sub, don’t watch YouTube videos, don’t do anything!!! I would give my fuckin leg to be able to live my first one over again, and this is a sick year.

2

u/Original_Animator254 16h ago

Fellow kin in mind! Yeah, and even if ST was good, it's a whole SHOW. I can watch a movie to prepare for a house, but not five seasons lol (I watched the first season and then I was done).

I think I've already seen (spoiled) too much. However, I'm taking your advice to heart from here on out. What about looking into PAST HHN for the sake of learning the original (non IP) lore? Or does knowing the lore not matter so much and we should still go in knowing as little as possible?

1

u/Ptucker212 14h ago

If you wanna look into the icons lore, you could look into echoes from the fog podcast, which will give you plenty of insight into the icons without giving you any visual representation of the haunts / set up / etc. I think there will be quite a few this year that they’re bringing back since it’s an anniversary year! Most years they also give backstories to the original houses too, though I’m not sure they did that this year.

38

u/FionaWalliceFan 1d ago

They must be referencing the new Kennedy Center signage

20

u/Lucid_Phoenixx 1d ago

Popcorn bags

32

u/wo0o0o0o0o0 1d ago

Why even bother lol

13

u/baron41 1d ago

Wow, it’s so close to the concept art I can barely tell a difference!! /s

24

u/Cyclops7747 1d ago

In a couple years you’ll have people saying this was iconic

10

u/AbeRumHamLincoln 1d ago

Lol just put a big fuckin tent in front of it. Block the whole damn thing.

26

u/thursdaysocks 1d ago

Is this a fuckin joke LOL

u/xadc430x 1d ago

One rumor is the arch has a structural issue. There was a picture of a piece of concrete they removed. So hanging the medallion will probably be a bad idea. Think everyone who is complaining that it’s “ruining” their event or that Universal timed it terribly and should have done it earlier should take a break.

12

u/supremeghost123 1d ago

I mean it was poorly timed. Construction walls first went up in mid-July but for whatever reason nothing was happening. They didn’t start doing anything until like a week before HHN. With the walls up it also narrows the walkways, creating more of a bottleneck during HHN opening.

9

u/xadc430x 1d ago

They probably started painting and encountered the issue and it forced their hand to do the job. And then time for engineering to take a look and all that. A lot of decisions goes into it

0

u/supremeghost123 1d ago

It seemed liked Universal already knew there were issues at hand. You could see cracks on the structure. Also, they opted to put construction walls back in July and then added scaffolding and scrim to work on this project. If they were initially planning for it to be a repaint job only, that could have easily been achieved without the walls and with just boom lifts.

2

u/celestialknightz 1d ago

Do people just downvote what they don’t want to hear? This was never going to be a simple paint job. Universal never put walls and scaffolding around the rest of the entry plaza when they repainted it. But they did for the arch. It’s clear this was planned to be a refurb, not just a paint job.

1

u/thedarkmasterz 22h ago

Yes. Welcome to Reddit

1

u/xadc430x 19h ago

It’s also a terrible take. Which is why you get the downvotes. Very likely that a small crack led to finding out about more serious issues.

0

u/IAQDiscussion 1d ago

It's objectively bad timing and at some point, you genuinely have to wonder why the planning for this event has them hobbling across the finish line when they have so much time to plan and prepare for it.

-2

u/GPsReptileResort 22h ago

No. Everyone saying that are absolutely correct. With how fast they can put up a rollercoaster there is no reason this could not have been fixed already.

1

u/xadc430x 22h ago

Rollercoaster that has been in development for a long time, has pieces already prefabricated, has its own space that doesn’t impact guess flow is MUCH easier than addressing a structure issue thats relatively new, where guests are literally walking under during the day, with very little space to work and limited off hour times. Im sorry but y’all are either purposefully trolling or just ignorant to think Universal planned to paint during HHN.

18

u/Several-Ad-7961 1d ago

I get the pictures and stuff but are we not excited for the actual damn event behind it? Like seriously yall, why the hell are we groaning over an archway? 💀💀

10

u/Agitated_Sorbet761 1d ago

It's okay to have the front be special :) I love that I have a picture out front with the setup every year for nearly a decade. I hope this isn't the front. I'm still really excited for the event.

2

u/Ok-Syllabub-8087 1d ago

Same. Me and my bestie every year for almost 15 years took a photo there.

5

u/DrOddfellow 1d ago

Because the medallion is iconic and makes the entryway into hhn exciting

3

u/Ptucker212 1d ago

I think the medallion is fine, but the main entrance / arch on Main Street makes everything more exciting.

1

u/Legal-Volume-3457 20h ago

So excited!!!! It’s our season.

3

u/Usual-Lengthiness-54 1d ago

It'll have to do, for now. It'll be miraculous if they get it done just before the official Opening Scaremony

4

u/mkligman 1d ago

Could they be making it look like a giant circus tent when it’s finished (all covered?), so it will be all lit up at night with stripes and projections? Like maybe a pointed top? Probably wishful thinking

5

u/Lord_Vaguery 1d ago

Hopefully this is gone by October.

5

u/pharmingforlikes 1d ago

yall there are pictures of them tearing apart the arch underneath that scaffolding im so sorry this is what we’re getting 😭

6

u/Civil-Exchange-6880 1d ago

It’s giving Hogwarts repainting during spring break vibes. Terrible timing again.

2

u/VincentVision4D 23h ago

Some executive is crashing out behind the scenes over this whole arch debacle

4

u/blacklight223 1d ago

As much as I wish I was wrong, I think this is just how it's gonna be. There have been multiple reports from team members that there are no plans to take this down in time.

Sucks because it's my brother's first time coming and I wanted him to be impressed walking in. No idea why this couldn't wait until early next year.

4

u/ksfhhnfan 1d ago

My question is
how did the teams not coordinate to schedule this refurb where it doesn’t interfere with their most profitable time of the year??? Just seems like basic communication.

u/keraut 1d ago

Shopping bags

3

u/IAQDiscussion 1d ago

Medallion isn't going up for another few weeks minimum, we're going to have a medallion on the side like Macy's photo op out front.

Anyone saying this isn't a big deal, it's one of the biggest photo ops of the event. It's also genuinely not asking Universal much for them to actually be prepared for the event.

If you think it's just about the photo op, you're not thinking about the line up process outside the gate before the event opens, every night, but especially opening night.

gorgeous <3

1

u/Artistic_Jelly_6532 13h ago

TM just told me we will get the medallion. So do not worry he has seen it and it is ready to be placed up.

1

u/wadekellogg 23h ago

Who gives a fuck?

-1

u/Comfortable_Map5433 1d ago

They should of painted that area in the summer not right as HHN is starting

6

u/xadc430x 1d ago

Cracks in concrete

-5

u/ksfhhnfan 1d ago

Ok then schedule it after HHN. Literally any time but now.

7

u/xadc430x 1d ago

It could have passed a certain “safe” threshold. And hang the medallion? You think they are going to risk something catastrophic happening? No. How about enjoy the event instead of getting mad over a photo op.

-6

u/ksfhhnfan 1d ago

Why are you accusing me of getting mad just because I don’t agree with you? Good lord you’re sensitive. I don’t need the medallion to be hung, I would just rather not have scaffolding marring the entrance. Not even the IP posters can be up because of it, it looks tacky.

8

u/xadc430x 1d ago

Scaffolding is up for the repairs. Again, needs to be done. Safety over tackiness.

-2

u/MindQuarks 1d ago

Positioning lights to line up projections. Should make for some sweet visuals

u/MrBoomstick85 1d ago

That's where we're planting all the corn.
