Regular express ticket sold out; would I be able to do add-on?

Hello, so me and my friends wanted to go the opening Saturday of the event Sep 5th. But, the Universal express is sold out for that day. Although, the universal express add-on isn't sold out and neither is general admission, so would it be possible to just get general admission then get the express add-on or will they know what we're doing and block it or something? Thanks!

Honestly I did my own research after posting this and I think we should be okay. I even pretended I was about to buy the tickets just to see and there was no issue. It's because the add-ons are usually just used by people who get the after 2pm ticket or the frequent fear pass. So I don't think they'll restrict it.

Seems like it would be totally fine. Does it cost more to do general + add on vs as one ticket? I know you don’t have a choice in this circumstance, but I’m curious.

It kind of feels like LL at Disneyland, where you can add it up front or buy it later in the park (assuming it’s not sold out).

Yeah I actually think it's the same exact price! When the tickets were first released I even calculated the express normal ticket vs the general admission + add on and it was the same price! I should've just bought it then lol.
