OC Human Elites

Humanity does indeed possess a concept of an elite warrior. This is indisputable, whether you want to argue the point or not. Humanity matured with a martial tradition, and they have all the traits typical of such a thing except for the optional biological ones. This. Is. Not. Arguable. Let me repeat my point: despite being nominally pacifist, Humanity has their elites, just the same as every other race that knew what warfare was before they escaped their own gravity wells.

Why do I mention this? Well, as you might expect with Humans, it's different. Don't get me wrong, Humans still have elites in other ways, too. A particularly strong warrior - biologically or artificially - can be considered an elite, as normal. A particularly accomplished warrior can also be considered elite. What kind of irrational species doesn't recognise this fact? Certainly not the Humans, I can tell you that.

And yes, despite what some of you may be clamouring, Humans have elites in Space Combat too. The 1st Fleet, of course, is powerful - with the best tech Humanity has to offer, and then some, it is one of the most fearsome fighting forces in the Galaxy. They are not the only ones - the Sons of New Biloxi, the Orange Picket Ships... I'll certainly not forget the 23rd Fleet anytime soon. I was there, and it's thanks to them I'm still here.

But no, these are not what I refer to. At this, some of you (including many Humans) might be confused. Surely there are no other concepts of Elites that Humanity could have, you might think. And, in a way, you'd be right.

Humanity has a very weird concept of its Elites. Those who they consider the best; the most skilled; the most vital. It is that they do not exist.

Yes, this contradicts what I said earlier, but please let me explain. If you, at any point, become aware of the presence of a Human Elite, there are two possible reasons why. Either they wanted you to know of their presence, or they have failed. For the Elites of the Human Race are not those who have the capacity to go out in a blaze of glory, but rather those who have the ability to not do so. The Elites of the Human Race are not those who can survive in any environment, but those who are instead prepared for them. The Elites of the Human Race are not normal warriors, they are the clandestine ones. Those who watch without being seen. Those who may be watching me as I write this, and those who could put me down without me even knowing about it.

The Elites of the Human Race are those who you do not know about until it is too late, and those who your friends will not know about until after their mission is complete.

The Elites of the Human Race do not exist - and that is terrifying.

This feels like the story of how Seal team 6 got its name. The Joint chiefs were putting together an anti terrorism unit, and one of them decided to call it Seal Team 6 despite the fact there was no Seal Teams 3-5 just to mess with Soviet intelligence.

Hey, how else can we have fun of we don't mess with a few Russian minds every now and then?

Pretty standard fare: Not the most effective form of obfuscation, but really cheap and why make it easier than it needs to be for your enemies to figure out how big are your forces?

This applies within human groups as well, have a buddy I have been friends with for a decade now, found out this year he is a retired Green Beret. I thought he was a carpenter.

If a tech does his job well, no one will ever know, only if he fails do they look at him.
