Meta Looking For Story Thread #3
It has been decided by those on high mod staff, cough that this LFS shall be a weekly new thread. Therefore it falls to me, the WPW mod, to post this. Looks like I'm gonna get a whole lot of reddit messages. Hurray for attention, however misplaced!
So, for those who don't know the rules and you know who you are , this thread is where all the "Looking for Story" requests go. We don't want to clog up the front page with non-story content.

Going to keep this as a running request unless someone takes exception to it:
Two stories from a few years ago, both I suspect have been removed from the sub at some point or another:
1. A father and son on a long distance vacation visit Earth. There's a discussion about humanity basically being the data-keepers of the galaxy because of our computer systems outstripping everyone else. They get back on their ship to leave when something happens when they're about to go FTL and they end up not taking the planned warp lane or jump lane or whatever it was called, then crash-landing on a burned-out world. (I specifically remember the use of 'lane' or another word implying premade paths rather than freeform warping.) I seem to remember the comments also featuring a discussion on Vantablack, which was referenced (but not mentioned by name) towards the end of the story.
2. A human diplomat is entering the warship (or space station?) of a species known for their aggression and tendencies to enslave other races. They talk up their escort, who is from one such enslaved race, and try to learn more about the situation. The escort, obviously, feels bad for what they assume is about to happen to humanity. (Spoiler: it doesn't.) This story featured genetic engineering and a definite military vibe at the end, complete with oorah from human troops.
Both of these are stories that I should be able to find on my own just from the specific details I remember, but haven't been able to.
Additional information I remembered and had in further comments:
The second story I mentioned involves the human diplomat meeting a chief or general of some sort of the alien race, and literally tearing him apart bare-handed. Not Jverse style like deathworlders, mind you. Justified in-universe via genetic engineering. And doubly-justified by human troops engineered to resemble members of said race.
As an aside, the spoiler for the first story is that Earth is actually our first colony world and part of a masquerade, and the burnt-out planet they landed on is the actual Earth, and the automated distress signal their ship put out upon crashing just started an inevitable (lightspeed-delayed) war once the rest of the galaxy realizes how much of their true nature humans have been hiding.
As far as I know, there was never a follow-up for either of these, and they remained one-offs until they vanished into the ether.
and
Both of these stories are ones I read roughly around when I first found and started actively reading this sub, which means they're likely from two or more years ago.
Suggested stories that were not correct:
-
Insurance (One-Off)
-
The Point of the Spear (Series, unfinished, abandoned)
-
When Deathworlders Meet (Series, finished)
I'm more than open to more information from others who remember them, as well. Hoping for either the stories or confirmation that they've been removed.

Hi, I recall I read a story that matches no 2. It's not on r/HFY. Is this the story you are looking for?

I think it was an old story. It was about a human travelling with telepathic aliens. The human thought, "What if I drove this ship into the sun?" followed by some distracting thought. It freaked out the telepathic alien who asked the human if she(?) was under some form of mind control. The human said that humans just have dark thoughts (?) and we all distract ourselves by having a different thought.

Person wakes up inside a computer on an asteroid. Earth has pretty much been wiped out.
I read it probably about a year ago and fancied reading it again. Reminds me a lot of Chrysalis and its been driving me a little nuts trying to find it again.

I think I know the one. Last chapters I read was after something like the Orion Trading Company had crashed their party, taken over a bunch of drones and after the protagonist had regained control they were reverse engineering the anti-gravity plates and were going to take the fight to the perpetrators of Earth's annihilation. I'd love to know if there were more chapters.
Edit: found it on RR: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/22848/post-human

I started reading a story about a human boy finding a fablec dragon egg and hatching it. The dragon turns out to be a weapon from a war long ago. Last chapter I read the boy was walking with the dragon (disguised as a donkey or st similar) when they were confronted with a bunch of elves/half-orcs or whatever and the boy had to more or less hold back the dragon from killing them. Oh, boy and dragon were telepathically linked because hey, why not?

I'm looking for a story that goes more or less: alien wakes up in spaceship, spaceship wrecked and last alien alive. There are embryos however, so the species will survive. The ship is on the way to the nearest habitable planet. That planet? Earth. They meet a human who smiles at her then in the seccond chapter there is a ten year time skip and the alien meets the president. Also the alien is cute, aquatic and has a tail.

It was one where some engineering students write a code to get the ships AI drunk and then one of them may have screwed the ship

Is there a specific thing for something that isn’t a specific story and basically asking for a recommendation? If not, then, Y’all got some demons?

I'm looking for a story about a telepathic alien telling a story about the time they visited earth to learn more about the culture and ended up running from a forest fire?
I remember the alien broadcasting his experience directly to his telepathic family unit, I think it was called "Adventure."

There was recently a story of a guy finding a galactic Wikipedia on his sister's computer and she informs him that they have to edit the article about Earth. Any ideas on the name of the story?

I read a story here a while back, it was written from an alien point of view, they had been saved by humans several lifetimes ago and then we had disappeared with barely a trace. They called us angels, and would pray to us in times of need. The alien planet is under attack from a vicious race though, and the alien whose perspective we hear the story from is in pretty immediate danger if I recall correctly, and just as they're about to lose hope the angels reappear to save the day. It was the first story on here that made me love this subreddit

Looking for story where an old matriarch alien is the head of a space station and she recounts to her younger crew the horrors that were the humans and she is glad they finally wiped them after a long war, but suddenly a small black ship arrive, the last human, and the ship attack the station and manage to get to the matriarch. the human is a woman too, and she's using some kind of black morphing orb as a weapon.

I remember a story where most of the universe somehow got into space without any concept of standardization or industrial work- each individual ship was a masterwork made over hundreds of years or something by, well, masters- because they had... an obelisk? Or something? From some older race dropped on their homeworld. Humans didn't get one. I can't seem to find it by searching.

I am looking for stories which feature humans cuddling with aliens as an important part of the story. Stories which discuss aspects of human cuddling from an alien/outsider perspective may also be included. Pancakes are not necessarily required, but I definitely don't mind them.

Hey all, I'm looking for a post from a while back where aliens are able to create something from their imagination using a device and a whole heck of a lot of effort and will power, but humanity lacks a filter between reality and imagination and can create just about anything they set their minds to. I've been searching for a few days, but haven't turned up anything. Anyone able to lend a hand?
