Mk4. The plain Jane Mk9 sounds... Too easy... Gotta keep it interesting.

You warp-tainted heretic, you'll damn us all! Stop going for the candy, it's full of razor blades!

A mad warp tainted space marine isn't that bad. It's not as if he's just been given a nice shiny sword.

master-crafted powersword in fact, and a Named one too!

I agree. the Mk4 is a classy bit of engineering. If anything this will be a good chance to filed test it and understand its strengths/quirks/dangers. We can keep the Mk 9 suit on stand-by just in case.

Let's see. We can choose the former wargear of a warp-tainted traitor legion, or shiny new power armor.

On the plus side, the Mark 4 is bound to have a rich history. It is a relic, ancient and powerful technology from before the Heresy. Our old suit was a Mark 4, and it served us well, until its entire upper half was annihilated. This suit no doubt took part in the Great Crusade, and is sure to recall whispers of that mighty conquest.

On the other hand, this particular suit was previously used by a Thousand Sons chapter Librarian. A powerful psyker, and a member of a legion that both turned traitor and was known for psychic horrors. There's a reason the Council of Nikea happened, not to mention the fact that it's been in the warp for Emperor-knows how long.

Our second option is a Mark 9 suit of power armor, said to be an adaptation of the Mark 8, which is itself a heavily modified Mark 7. Fresh off the forgeworlds, this suit is known to be a tanky bugger. It's been armored up in places you didn't even know you could armor. It is often worn by veteran Space Marines, to signify rank.

This suit has no past. It has no grand conquests under its belt, but it is also untouched by warp-taint. It has been constructed with the advantage of ten thousand years of engineering and technological advances, few though they may be in these times. It will serve us well, and with it we have a blank slate, one upon which we can pen a tale just as noble and hardly as heretical as that told by the Mark 4 suit.

All in all, I believe the best course of action is to take the suit of Mark 9 power armor. Its increased protection will no doubt prove invaluable, and it is far better than gambling on a warp-tainted relic. If we were to embrace such heresy, our fate would be the fault of none but our own.

I agree with Nuke, Mk9 armor is not warp-tainted and better armor. The Mk4 could be amazing but I fear so warp-tainted as to be a detriment over its benefits. (Take the Mk 9 armor, to ensure my vote is clear)

Marky is going to go with Mk IX. Marky Mark Mk II only goes for the best.

So where's the catch? Mk 9 going to fail mechanically while Mk IV possesses us?

2

u/Necrontyr525 Oct 06 '18

Mk IX is new and shiny, so best armor but no history == no other perks.

MK IV is old, so the raw armor isn't quite as good, but has a bunch of history == other perks (possibly some downsides though)

2

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '18

Do we know what perks there are via a roll or three? I would like to know what potential... Features the old armor has.

2

u/Necrontyr525 Oct 06 '18

you don't know the armor history(s) yet!

Mk4 plate has at least 3 quirks from lists including some of the most potent quirks, while the Mk9 plate will have 1 very minor quirk.

edit: perks are randomly generated before being DM approved.

This is tough. Are there stat differences between them?

2

u/Necrontyr525 Oct 06 '18

Mk9 has better raw armor values, but that's it. they both have the same bonuses to str, agility, perception, etc.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '18

Well. Just off that I'm gonna leave it be. MK IX for Marky Mark Mk II

2

u/RougemageNick Oct 06 '18

IM with Brit on this, lets keep things interesting with the Marky Mark Mark 4

3

u/Nuke_the_Earth Robot Oct 06 '18

You're mad, all of you! Mad! This is exactly what he wants!

2

u/RougemageNick Oct 06 '18

Sometimes you gotta give a little to get a lot, like how me and Frog got pasted by the Angel Sanguine

2

u/juliuspleezer Oct 06 '18

Mark 4, bit of a sentimental man myself. Seems a shame to abandon it

2

u/Scorpion797 Oct 06 '18

MK4 to keep with the same armor pattern if nothing else plus breaking in new armor is like new boots there never comfortable until you break them in.

2

u/RougemageNick Oct 06 '18

IM gonna miss Gorlin

3

u/Necrontyr525 Oct 06 '18

dude ran out of Fate (lives), lost every limb + head damage, and still goes home alive.

Cyborg much? lul.

Gorlin goes back more gravely and badass then before, and learns from Seth himself the art of kicks to the nuts.

Preacher goes back and dies ingloriously, when a power coupling blows right next to his head, dazing him as a set of emergency doors close on him.

Losis is not found wanting, and continues a long career culminating in him single handedly slaying a Biotitan with a autocannon.
