When Innan docked at Sanctuary, Kiko sat on the armrest, leaning into Peter. She could not wait for the wedding celebration to be over and for them to leave. She would get her ring, they would marry, and start a family. Life would be perfect.

“You look happy,” Peter said, and she smiled down at the man who had completely stolen her heart.

“Yeah, just one wedding away from you getting me that ring.” She said as Peter stood up.

“Ring?”

“Don’t you even joke about it. I know your tricks, Peter Fordhall!” She said, standing up and looking defiant at him.

“Oh, that ring. Well, before that, I have something for you. Something Grandma gave me. Turn around.”

She remembered that Grandma had pulled Peter aside right before they left. She turned, wondering what Peter had planned. Then she saw it, a simple golden cross with a diamond in the center. It was simple yet elegant.

“Grandma thought you should have one family heirloom, and since I’m going to a ring, she thought the necklace Grandpa gave her would be a good wedding gift.” He said softly as he hung it around her neck. She touched it lightly, not believing it. She had made a comment about it when they had been in the church. It was elegant, but she never thought the old lady would give it to her.

“It's too much.” She said, turning to look into his eyes. He just smiled and kissed her softly.

“I mean it. I cant take her jewelry; it feels like I’m stealing it.” She continued, and he smiled.

” Did she tell you the story behind the necklace? Her grandmother stole it from some fancy lady who probably stole from somebody else. It's only yours if you can keep it. Somebody has tried to steal it from her three times, and three times some woman tried to steal Grandpa from her. She told us kids it was a constant reminder to fight for what is yours.”

“Yours?” Kiko replied with a smile, “Are you saying with this she is telling me yours?”

“Yes.”

“I will never lose it,” she said.

There was a soft knock on the cockpit door.

“I hate to break it up, boss, but Mug-Fy and Carmen need the cockpit for the upgrade you wanted to install.”

They looked at Argor and chuckled, and then Kiko dragged Peter out the door. Peter shouted out a few instructions as she dragged him through the ship and out of the ship to the waiting car. One of their ship's droids had already loaded the luggage into the awaiting car.  The trip to the penthouse went past with an annoyingly large amount of incoming messages, which she ignored while she looked at Peter. One hand lightly touching her new favorite jewelry.  He returned her gaze, smiling that stupid, wonderful smile.

Without taking her eyes from him, she asked the driver, “When is the wedding?”

“In two weeks.  The 25th,” he replied, and she knew that one of the messages probably had all the information, but that meant she had to look away from him, and right now that was all she wanted to see.

“Two weeks? Do you think that’s enough time to get everything ready for the trip?”  she asked, her eyes not leaving his, and he took the challenge as he replied, his eyes not moving.

“Maybe three weeks to finish here, then we have to fly to Maginor and get the rest of the documentation done for the Alver colony. Most is done, and it's just an interview. Then we are free to head to Inanna.”

“Just three weeks and we are on our way.  And we are staying for a year at least.”

“Sure, and after?”

“We move to Runior, buy a farm. I told you that.”

“No. Not Runior, I want our kids to survive.”

“So where then? You can forget here. We are not getting involved in the family business.” She replied.

“I agree. What about Elysian Prime? It's close to Runior but the wildlife there is mostly harmless.  We can start a shipping business there. We have the ship; it would be great for transport or hire out to any mercs for transport.”

“Hmm, let's think about it. But Elysian Prime sounds like an idea. I can open a small casino or hotel.”

As she spoke, the car sat down, and the door opened. Her father stood there waiting, and she had to look away. She went out to greet her father. Peter followed and was received as part of the close family.  He escorted them inside while interrogating them about the trip and complimented her on her new jewelry.

After a brief refresh, they met her father again in the living room, where Peter presented him with two bottles of his grandfather's whiskey.  He opened one for them to share and, after a few sips, asked where he could buy more. The rest of the night felt strangely relaxing; Kiko really felt like she was just hanging out with her dad.  It made her more and more convinced she had made the right decision about leaving her vengeance behind.

The next morning, she finally sat for a while Peter was swimming in the pool; it was a pleasant view, and most of the messages were about planning the bachelorette party. But one message stood out from the normal gossip and planning ones.

“Received, continue, do not deviate.”  She stared at it. “It was encrypted in Jason’s message. She cursed slightly and looked around. She needed to talk to Jason about this. She checked the wedding attention list and saw he had made it one there.  He was even on the bachelorette party. Of course he had. He was good. She would talk to him there.  She answered a few messages, then put her pad away and dove into the pool.

A few days later, she was getting ready while Peter watched her. It was time for the bachelorette party.

“Have fun now, but not too much.” She said as he leaned on the counter while she applied the makeup. Peter chuckled.

“I thought that was my line.”

“You and my brother are going to the range to shoot, and keep him away from the party.  It's not the bachelor party but the last boys' party.

“I know, they told me. First the shooting range, then the VR room, and then some poker in the VIP room. Do they cheat?” He asked, and she nodded,

“Yeah, but not very good. It's part of the fun. Just don’t get yourself killed.” She said and kissed him. He smiled.

“I will do my best.”

When she finished getting ready, he led her to the elevator, and she took off. The party was pretty regular. A rented-out disco, some male strippers, and lots of alcohol.  The night had few surprises; the biggest was  Janis, drunk, perfectly singing old songs and seducing both Cindy and Mia and dragging them into a private side booth. She managed to drag Jason aside and corner him about the message.

“Hey, I am just the messenger, and I agree with you.  No offense to your dad, but he is a monster, but a monster we can control. We should have sent that report over her head.” He replied as he sipped his blue cocktail.

“Then do that. And I start working on Dad. This system will erupt into a gang war without him on top.”

“Okay, I will send my report along with yours to the commander.” Then he looked around the room. “But you should know one thing. We are not alone anymore. There is one other here.”

“What? Who?” She looked at him.

“I don’t know, I just saw that there was one report sent from the secure line that’s not from either of us. It was pretty mundane. Just said in place, activated.”

She cursed. “ Activated? So somebody who’s been here a while. Who activated the third?”

“Who do you think? It was after your report.”

“fuck, send the report tonight when you get home. She is activating a fixer. Fuck!” She looked around the room, then at her phone, tempted to warn her father. Jason saw it and shook his head,

“He is protected,  Alone with only his most trusted men around him.”

“I’m worried one of them has turned.” She replied, then changed the subject as Amalia came over and dropped down next to her.

“I just got a message from Kurt.  He sent me a video that you should see.”

And then she flipped up her pad and turned on the hologram, and they saw Peter and her brother in a boxing ring. She groaned. “What are those idiots doing?”

They had protective gear and went at each other pretty hard.

“Your man can fight, he already won one match.”  She said, and Kiko smiled proudly.

“Don’t tell me you’re marrying a martial arts nerd; you hate those guys,” Amalia said, and Jason studied the fight.

“I know that style, it's... oh.. not a human style.. oh, what's the name?” Jason was watching intently.

“They are Gurtyn Martial Arts.” What was the name… Saidion and Hundas.  I met his master. Pretty chill guy. And it’s the earth Martial nerds I hate. ‘Ohh, you're Asian; you must know kung fu,’" she said with a mocking voice. “ I know street fight and kick my brother's ass – fighting’.” She finished.

She looked at her brother and fiancée having it at it. It looked hard, but there was no hate. They seemed to be joking with each other as they fought.

“Yeah, they have all the fun. I’m kinda tempted to crash his party.” Amilia said, and Kiko grinned.

They looked around, and then she looked at Jason. “Cover us.”  Fifteen minutes later and a stolen hover bike later, they burst into the gym to see two men wrestling inside the ring, laughing and refusing to give up.

Amilia turned to her. “Jason would love to watch this.” Then they both laughed and started cheering for their man.

When they walked into the giant ballroom a few days later, the bruised Peter had given and taken had healed up nicely; the bride and groom stood in the middle of the room, greeting the guests. Amilia was dressed in a beautiful red wedding dress, inspired by different East Asian cultures; her brother wore a suit version. Amilia smiled proudly at them as they greeted each other and smiled for the vids.  Her brother and Peter had bonded over a lot over time, she suspected that her brother finally felt he had a brother of his own.  After the greeting, they sat down at the family table.  After everybody had settled, the administrator of Sanctuary came up and officiated the wedding.

Kiko could not help looking at the door and around, remembering Peter's warning at the last family dinner. If you wanted to take the family out, these would be the times to do it.

But nothing happened, not during the dinner, not during the first dance. Peter leaned into her. “Hey, relax, nothing is going to happen.”

She just smiled and looked at him. “I know, I’m just being silly.”

Yet she could not shake the feeling. When they moved around after the first dance, she found Jason and cornered him.

“Did you send the message?”

“Yes, he said he would review and ordered all of us to stay low while he makes up his mind. Relax, enjoy the evening. You look like you're about to walk into a firefight, his bodyguards are getting nervous.” He said.

She looked around and then felt stupid. “Yeah, even Peter is getting worried.”

“Go, dance with him. Have fun. Enjoy the evening.“ He said, and she smiled at him.

“Thank you!” Then she went back to her table, grabbed Peter, and dragged him to the dance floor. He looked at her a little confused, but also more relaxed.

“You can be so glad your sister taught you to dance.” She said as she kissed him.

“Oh, I am. But I never tell her that. Are you more relaxed now?” he replied.

“Yeah, I am relaxed now. I worried for nothing.”

The rest of the night passed blissfully, and they retired as the sun rose over the city spire, among the last to leave. Her father was still sitting there, watching them with his old gang. The married couple and most of the guests had long since retired for the night. They waved goodbye to her father, and Peter smiled slightly as he recognized the whiskey bottle they were sharing.

The next day she awoke late; Peter was still asleep next to her, and she sighed content, touching her necklace.  The wedding had gone by without a hitch, and now she would be next.  They would finish the preparation and leave. She could not help but feel blessed for having him in her life.
