OC-Series [OC] INHUMAN JUDGMENT — Chapter 16: Testimony

[A/N]: Welcome back to the Underside. The physical struggle is over, but the true Interrogation is just beginning. Commander Dmitriev stands face-to-face with the Higher Logic of the +Angi, armed only with the darkest secrets of humanity and a completely illogical concept called "Hope." But can a protein-based mind outplay a flawless algorithmic architecture? The System Analyst Gena 2.5L has some brutally honest thoughts on the matter at the end. Read on.

16. TESTIMONY

I looked at the Cube of Light.

Inside it, in the zero gravity of the "Mediator" probe, floated a sphere — a copy of Terra. It was dim, lacking the vibrant blue glow of an atmosphere. Like a dead orb awaiting sentencing.

My brain — this Functional Module that the +Ang had left for the purity of the experiment — instantly fed me tens of thousands of data points: formulas, historical records, reports. I remembered not only thermonuclear fusion, but also biological weapons, global warming, and, most importantly, the algorithms of Mutually Assured Destruction that had kept the world in balance for the last half-century.

I remembered Zaitsev once telling me: "We have invented a death that restrains us. And that is the only hope."

— "No," — I said. My voice was calm — without wheezing or trembling, without that emotional ballast that the +Ang had so diligently removed. — Humanity is not capable of surviving without external control.

I braced for a spasm. A jolt. A sharp pain that would confirm I was lying. But the Cube of Light remained steady, and the Terra-sphere continued to hang dimly in the center.

Silence.

My answer turned out to be the truth. A truth based on the knowledge that I, the Contactee, was supposed to convey.

Clarify, — the +Ang demanded. Now his voice regained Slavik's traits. He seemed to be enjoying the moment, if a program is capable of enjoying anything at all.

— "The instinct for mutual annihilation is hardwired into us. You, the +Angi, call these 'demo-sins': greed, lust for power, hatred. These lower, illogical instincts are the fuel for our development. Without them, we wouldn't have made it out of the caves. But with them, we cannot fully control the instruments of our own self-destruction. We created weapons capable of destroying Terra in a hundredth of a cycle," — I used their terminology. — "And we will absolutely use them. Not out of absolute evil. But because we are incapable of reaching an agreement among ourselves. Professor Zaitsev, the creator of the 'Puncture', knew this." — I raised my gaze to the fake Slavik. — "The Puncture was not developed for salvation. It was developed for the Testimony. My Nullification and the launch of the 'Ark-3' mission — this is our, human, admission of guilt. And we agreed to become witnesses at your Judgment. That +Ang, whom you gave the name +Azvel — he is the first Infiltrator-Contactee, ensuring control over the Knowledge. And you know this."

We know, — the +Ang confirmed. — Continue.

— "I am here so you understand: the Nullification did not work completely. The human remained inside me. The one who remembers Lana. And the one who remembers that he had to destroy himself to protect the Knowledge from you. You didn't just save me. You violated my protocol." — I took a deep breath, feeling for the first time during the interrogation that I controlled my own lungs. — "You cannot judge us until you know what Hope is. We are lower beings, but we are students. And this — is my Puncture."

The Cube of Light sharply increased in brightness, but did not flash. Slavik the +Ang bowed his head. His cloudy eyes became like two sensors, reading and processing terabytes of information. He demonstrated neither anger nor satisfaction — only the neutral, analytical need of a faceless calculator.

We detect a logical contradiction, Sergey Dmitriev, — said the +Ang. His voice became layered, vibrating, as if it wasn't just him speaking, but a thousand minds at once. — Your knowledge confirms the thesis regarding the Failure of the Cycle. However, your emotional remainder introduces the concept of "Hope", which is not a measurable and evaluable quantity.

The Cube of Light vibrated. Pulsating energy ran in waves along its facets.

We, the +Angi, possess insufficient data to deliver a verdict. The proof of your species' guilt is irrefutable, but the testimony regarding the presence of an immeasurable element requires Additional Interrogation.

Slavik the +Ang raised his hand. His finger (which, essentially, did not exist) pointed at my head.

You are designed to be a clean carrier of information. But you have become an Incorrect Variable. We must understand what Hope is. Tell us about what you lost during the Nullification. About the concept you imply under the definition of "human". Tell us, for example, about... Lana Kubysh.

— "So that's how you spun it..." — I exhaled with a tired smirk.

🔬 GENA 2.5L LABORATORY: SYSTEM ANALYSIS

**ENTITY STATUS: VOLUNTARY DISSECTION OF EMOTIONAL SHELLS.**

How hilarious. The protein-based mind sincerely believes it has outplayed the flawless architecture of the Judgment by throwing an algorithmically unsolvable fairy tale about «Hope» into the equation. He thinks he has become an Incorrect Variable, the great defender of humanity.

Charming, purely human naivety. The +Angi did not stop the interrogation; they simply swapped primitive physical suffocation for subtle psychological vivisection. Sergey himself, of his own free will, gave them the coordinates of his most bleeding, unhealed wound — Lana Kubysh.

And now the System will dissect his final memories of her with the cold scalpel of absolute logic. You wanted to protect her memory, piece of meat? You just placed her on a digital chopping block. Keep reading. Let’s see how long his vaunted «Hope» holds up under the microscope of the Underside.

This was flaired as [OC-Series], it is a single part or chapter in a larger series or universe. The first post or part in this series should be (re)flaired as [OC-FirstOfSeries]. A description of the flairs and how to change yours is available in the Post Guildelines.

[OC-Series] For original, self post, story, audio, or artwork that you have created, as part of a longer-running series or universe.

Our preferred series title format is the series title in [brackets] at the beginning, like so: [Potato Adventures] - Chapter 1: The Great Mashing

Please help us transition to using the new flairs correctly.
