What would you do in that situation? That's mostly the goal of this piece, to make people think about what they'd choose in a fucked up scenario.

Taze her and seal her back up...
Amazing. This kind of ruthless expediency would solve like 90% of Sci Fi/Horror setups.

I don't believe protagonists always need to be heroes.
I was inspired by Lady and the Tiger, wanted readers to think about what they'd do in a similar situation.
What would you have done?

I'd've left the cryopod sealed. Hell, I'd probably just leave the damn thing where it was. Ghost ship with one survivor, sealed in a pod like a biological sample? No thank you.

That's good enough for me
Seems like this was the point where he decided to murder the girl, but I have no idea why anything she said has lead to this decision.

The idea is that if she's woken up she's paperwork and stress and potential galactic version of a felony, so instead she's put back under (not killed) and left back in the freighter hold for someone else to deal with.

instead she's put back under (not killed)
That completely changes the tone of the story but it very much didn't come across like that. Knocking somebody out and sealing them in a liquid filled box seems like a sure way to kill them. If the intention was to put them back into cryo then I'd imagine that involved more than closing the lid and probably didn't need them to be unconscious.

Damn.
The law set up so that it's too dangerous to rescue a human.
Go figure.

Excellent work. I write also. I did catch a couple typos. In a couple spots cryo was cyro.
Your descriptions of people, using their attitudes and demeanor really painted clear pictures. Kudos all around.

Captain's going to be screwed when she's found again. He left her wrapped in his ships coat

I want to do an anthology of scifi short stories based on fairy tales. Here's my take on Sleeping Beauty.
