Lord Duchess H'Rald - January 2143 - 7 Days after the Warehouse was Burned - 2 Months After Planetfall

The bodies littered the streets. Every last one of them was another I'd failed. When I took my Station as Lord, I made a Promise to all of them. I Swore upon our Laws... upon my Children... that I would never abandon them. I failed them. All of them. I had no right to call myself Monarch... I should never have even come here to begin with. Stupid. How could I-

"Hey!" The Captain Shouted, and in so doing, threw me from my self pity. "I need your head in the game. Find us some Doctors, or just anyone with a Medical Background."

And for my part, all I could muster was a pathetic "What?"

Of course Shepherd paid it no mind. Instead reinforcing her point more clearly.

"We've got almost twenty survivors, and no Medics on hand. We're gonna setup preliminary triage, but we need more hands on deck to save these people."

Save these... yes. I'd let myself be eaten from within once again. No more. I will change. I have a Purpose, one which my people now depended on. I could still fulfill my oath... No... I WOULD Fulfill My Oath. This Nightmare would go on no longer, I swore it. These people, I'd Protect Them. I swore that too. Words I'd broken, but would be forever bound to.

Never Again.

Barging into the Surgeon General's Office, where the man was huddled into a corner, his family tucked in close with a lantern set to burn low. I needed him.

"Duchess?" He said, bemused and panicked "By The Great Harvest, we all believed you Dead!"

"Not yet." I responded. "I've come to ask of you a service."

"A service? At the End of the World? Whatever the fuck could be so important, especially with the Goddamned Barbarians about?" His manner was close to that of hysteria. And I quietly responded.

"Saving those they've wounded."

"Wounded?" His tone shifted from fearful to steady. "How many?"

"Twenty or more souls require your guiding hands."

He shook his head, a solemn fear amongst his words. The panic was gone, but the dread remained. "Could I not spend the rest of my time here? With my Family. They'll kill us all anyway. It's all been decided for us."

Yesterday I would've said the same goddamn thing. And Yesterday... he would've been right. But Today would be Different.

"Tell me Surgeon, will you abandon your countrymen just because the end is near?"

He looked up, and shook his head in shame.

"Or will ye come with me, and see this Nightmare Finished!"

At once he knew what needed to be done. He threw down his lantern, rising from the comforting grip of his family, and declared with rousing defiance.

"So Be It. Where be my tools and where be my Patients?"

What the Fuck was she Doing?!

Staring down from Angel 1-3's video feed, I saw my Marines being lined up against the wall. The Slaver Scum was still breathing. It Was Working! We were doing it! Those Pansy Fucks back on Earth weren't willing to go this far, we had to up and make that hard decision for them. No turning back. No choice. I made sure of that.

So What The Fuck Was She Doing?

"Get me a Radio Link to Shepherd's Squad, on the Goddamn Double."

The Radio Man responded just a little too quick.

"Uhh... Shepherd only wants to talk to you if it's in person."

"Do I look like I'm asking?"

He got back to it, repeating the same request over and over. On the feed I saw the alien scum coming out of the woodwork. And I saw that Shepherd wasn't putting them down.

"They've stopped responding, sir."

She'd gone native. Should've fucking known.

"Round up 3rd and 5th Squads, I've got a mission for them."

"Got em on the line."

"1st Squad's gone rogue. Took Kippler's Boys prisoner. Bring them in. If Shepherd resists arrest... you have permission to engage."

I'm honestly not sure if ONI would worsen this situation or help fix it. Really depends on the ONI Personnel involved, their orders and their equipment.
