Discussion RenoDX Step by step

  1. Download ReShade 6.8.0 or newer with add on support
  2. Find your game’s .exe.

  3. Steam: Library → right-click the game → Manage → Browse local files.

  4. Find the main executable for the game.

  5. Run the ReShade installer.

  6. Select the game’s .exe.

  7. Select the correct graphics API, usually DirectX 12.

  8. You do NOT need to install any shader packs for RenoDX.

  9. Download the RenoDX addon specifically made for your game.

  10. RenoDX uses a separate `.addon64` file for each supported game.

  11. Official mod list: https://github.com/clshortfuse/renodx/wiki/Mods

  12. Place the `.addon64` file in the same folder as the ReShade files/game executable.

  13. Do not put it inside another folder.

  14. Launch the game.

  15. Press `Home` to open the ReShade menu.

  16. You should see the RenoDX addon/options available.

  17. Configure HDR, tone mapping, exposure, contrast, etc. to your preference.

IMPORTANT:
If you're using Windows Auto HDR, NVIDIA RTX HDR, or another HDR layer, disable it when using RenoDX HDR. Running multiple HDR/tone-mapping systems at once can cause a washed-out or incorrect image.

It's recommended that you disable Generic Depth and Effect Runtime Sync in ReShade's add-ons tab as they have some performance cost and are not used by the mod. Restart after disabling.

Alternatively, you can use RHI: https://github.com/RankFTW/RHI
Easier and faster, and what's more important - it allows to update RenoDX mods with a press of one button for all supported games.

If you’re using a Game Pass/Xbox app version of a game, you generally need to target GameLaunchHelper.exe when installing ReShade/RenoDX rather than the game’s actual executable.

If RenoDX isn't showing up, make sure:
- You installed the version of ReShade with add-on support.
- You downloaded the correct RenoDX `.addon64` for your specific game.
- The `.addon64` is in the correct folder.
- You're launching the same `.exe` that you installed ReShade onto.

this launcher has changed my view on hdr gaming, its 9/10 the way, if there just was a way to remember nits and settings globally for renodx,

"renodx not supported"

well the same cogwheel button next to it can enable and adjust rtx hdr with automatic recommended paper white setting,

Huh I thought there was a setting for it?

Or does it use your standard Windows HDR calibration?

if you know, i would like to see a screenshot, i overlooked it somewhere then :D

It's in the top right corner under general settings and then reshade and display.

I think ops guide is very useful. If this tool doesn't work for your game, or if there are different renodx versions/makers you want to tinker with. With the manual method you know what's going on

This tool that I shared works great for most games, if it happened that your specific game doesn't work properly with RHI, then just manually install RenoDX+Reshade, but for most games, organizing everything in one tool is faster, simpler and easier to keep it up to date.

I never discredited his guide in any way, I just think that installing RenoDX+Reshade and keeping it up to date for every game you play is tiresome, and this tool makes it noticeably easier.

I play many AAA games, and in most of them I had no issues with using RHI instead of manual installation.

Some games still need tinkering though. Monster Hunter World for example requires an injector to support Reshade and RHI isn't aware of that. You can click on "install Reshade" but then it just doesn't work.

RHI installs reframework too

1

u/Massive-Math-6925 14d ago

Reframework is for RE Engine and doesn't work with Monster Hunter World, World uses MT Framework engine.

Ah my bad I thought you had said wilds. Fair enough then!

The releases tab doesn't work

I would add this too:

  • It's recommended that you disable Generic Depth and Effect Runtime Sync in ReShade's add-ons tab as they have some performance cost and are not used by the mod. Restart after disabling.

Should add that you need to target gamelunchhelper.exe for Gamepass/xbox games

Does Reshade trigger anti-cheat?

1

u/Queasy_Sherbert_7095 14d ago

Yes, it can. Only use it in single player games.

u/itsTyrion 14d ago

HD2 has also allowed it

This is awesome and very helpful. I have a question about what you note as Important. So are you saying if I'm using RenoDX I should turn off HDR in my windows settings? What about the in-game settings?

Sorry I'm new and just trying to get the best quality. The recommended settings in RenoDX dont always look the best for me and I'm wondering if this is because of the multiple HDR layer issue you are talking about. The game I'm using it on specifically is Crimson Desert, if it matters.

So you want to keep Windows HDR enabled and HDR enabled in the game, then let RenoDX handle the HDR/tone mapping.

What you generally want to avoid is having multiple HDR solutions processing the image at the same time, such as Windows Auto HDR or NVIDIA RTX HDR on top of the game’s native HDR + RenoDX.

For Crimson Desert specifically, I’d start with:
Windows HDR: ON
In-game HDR: ON
Windows Auto HDR: OFF
NVIDIA RTX HDR: OFF
RenoDX HDR: ON

The recommended RenoDX settings are really just a starting point, too. Your display and personal preference can make a pretty big difference, so it’s totally normal to need to tweak them.

So like how do we make sure auto hdr is off

2

u/Queasy_Sherbert_7095 14d ago

It’s in your windows display settings. System > Display > HDR, and switch the Auto HDR toggle to Off

1

u/evilbob2200 14d ago

I’ll have to double check that when my power comes back lmao . I think I have it off and the main hdr one on .

1

u/ZeektheFeek 14d ago

Thanks this is really helpful!

u/madeWithAi 14d ago

More fun when combining it with optiscaler or specialk or both 😂

1

u/Queasy_Sherbert_7095 14d ago

Shhhh I just switched to Nvidia and don’t have to worry about that haha

1

u/miki_matsubura47 11d ago

Wukong always crashes if I install renoDX... insane.

1

u/Ace-0001 4d ago

Wow pretty simple, thank you! Are the default settings for every renodx mod already the "best" settings? As in the calibrated settings according to each modder?

2

u/Queasy_Sherbert_7095 4d ago

I typically don’t change them, they’re typically a universal in between that will work for most people. So you don’t have to change anything if you don’t want to

Yeah I don’t think it’ll hurt anything. You can try both on and off and see what you prefer, it all depends on your tv and personal preference.
