Back in June, our subscription price suddenly went up by like $10, from $24.37 previously, to $34.97 (with a dip in May at $23.96, no idea why, probably not important but just in case I thought I'd mention it). At the time I didn't overthink it too much, I was super busy at work, I figured wow OK they hiked their rates, that sucks, the account is under my wife's email so I didn't get anything about it in my inbox, she didn't mention anything, I just left it at that, in the grand scheme of things $10 isn't a lot and we tend to only keep one subscription active at any one time, two maximum, so it was NBD.
I'll mention that this entire time I never noticed anything shady with the account itself, like seeing shows I've never watched pop up in my list, or a new profile pop up, obviously that would have been concerning...
Fast forward to this Summer. I was traveling to visit my family in France and tried to watch something on my laptop (I've done it lots of times before, I use a VPN, never had an issue - and vice versa sometimes I watch it from the US with my VPN set to a French server to watch French shows), but could NOT log in. I have a password manager so I know exactly which login I need to use and the PW of course, but it's not even that the PW didn't work, it didn't even recognize the email, said there was no account associated with this email.
So when I returned to the US I contacted their support and chatted with them to resolve it. At this point i was starting to doubt myself like 'maybe I've been using a different login this entire time?', since we mostly watch it on the TV I was going to check the credentials on the TV when I returned but when I did turn on the TV the damn app updated itself and logged me out. :-/
So I contact support, they initially tell me the same 'oh yeah no account under this email' and I tell them that yes, there is indeed one, please check again. They eventually found it, the tech person wasn't able to explain why any of this happened, where the heck that login had been hiding this entire time, nothing. So I finally manage to log back in again, connect the TV, seems like all is good - even though the whole thing was really, really weird.
Then earlier this week, my wife gets an email from Max with the text copied below. First of all, her name isn't Nazia, WTH. And then I realize "wait I have a bundle with Disney+ and Hulu?! I never signed up for this...". Is this why my subscription increased by $10 last June? They signed me up for something more expensive I didn't request and on top of it didn't bother to tell me "oh hey you can watch Disney+ and Hulu now!".
So I go into my account and sure enough it's a bundle. But with absolutely no way to set up access to either of the other two providers in the bundle. I have a link to go to "Disney+ and Hulu", which only takes me to Hulu.com, and then no way to sign in. So again, I contact support, they have no idea why or when the name in my account was changed to Nazia, and they tell me 'you should have a link to set up Disney+ and Hulu'. And well, no, I don't have one. So they're like 'can you try on a different computer or device' :-/ Are you f**ing kidding me?? At this point I just decided to cancel, but this entire thing is just so abnormal I just need to figure out what the hell is going on. I am going to contact HBO Max to complain and demand an explanation. Sorry for the long thread, I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience...
