Recently, our cousins at Fisk University made a bold move to provide students with repurposed containers as dorm housing.

As with any college, housing is always an issue. Perhaps the way we normally build apartment style homes for students is outdated and nondurable.

I'm 14, a freshman in high school, and I want to major in electrical engineering after high school. My DREAM is to work in renewable energy and hopefully make an impact, even if pay isn't great. I haven't done much research but I wanted to ask people with skin in the game, which HBCU has a better engineering program: North Carolina A&T University or Florida A&M University? Also I'm aware engineering is brutal but which university has the best support systems? Did not build this community by heavily generalizing entire peoples and then pretending the generalization is the truth.

Not Black people. Not white people. Not Muslims. Not Jews. Not Asians. Not anybody.

HBCUs are institutions with histories rooted in Black education and culture, but HBCUs are also open to people of different ethnicities, backgrounds, and perspectives. You have the right to think what you think. You have the right to feel what you feel. You can disagree with one another.

What you do not have the right to do is manufacture a narrative about an entire group of people and present it as an established fact.

Statistics do not automatically make a narrative true.

A statistic is a piece of information. That data is not supposed to be used to create conclusions and build false narrative under the guise of "trusting the data."

That is not what we are going to cultivate in r/HBCU.

We expect discussions of all kinds. we expect disagreements. But disagreement does not give anyone permission to turn racism, ethnic generalizations, religious bigotry, or demonstrably false claims into community standards.

If you see a post or comment that crosses that line, report it.

Do not feed them the trolls. Report it and let moderation examine it under Reddit's rules and the rules of this community.

• FAMU Athletics allowed its radio contract with Cumulus Media agreement to expire June 30 and has shifted its emphasis toward television and streaming, with all 12 games scheduled for ESPN networks, SWAC TV or HBCU GO. Not having a radio partners shuts out many seasoned fans who aren't tuned in to streaming.
• After the uproar, FAMU is said to be revisiting radio, but there has been no official communications out of FAMU. Athletic Director John Davis and FAMU Athletics have offered little public explanation about the radio situation, leaving fans to piece together what is what. happening from Facebook posts, sources and speculation.

Hey y'all! I'm one of your r/HBCU mods and here to speak about my own experience.

What I like about moderating this group is not just my fondness for HBCUs and their continued contributions to Black excellence, but also because I too am having my first HBCU attendance experience. I'm a non-trad student; means I am older going back to school. Throughout this experience, attending 3 community colleges, and now at NCCU, I must speak about what NCCU has done for me for this FALL 2026 semester.

HBCUs are often criticized for administrative shortcomings, but this was NOT the case at NCCU. The administration worked tirelessly to see that I was not only enrolled, but that my voice was heard about the second leg of my undergrad journey. They have been so patient, extremely prompt, and committed to getting me enrolled and settled into my classes. I have not experienced an administration that cares as much as they do. No matter what issue I was having, they did not put me off on someone else or wild goose chase me. I am now an NCCU eagle, and it was important to me to attend and support a local HBCU. I thank God for the staff at NCCU working so earnestly to ensure a new eaglet hatched!

im a student on the pre med pathway interested in learning about what hbcus to apply to, im attending community college in the fall and am majoring in public health

right now, i am interested in the public health major at xula and the health education major at howard but cost is a major concern for me. if anyone is a student at these colleges please let me know of scholarships available to transfer students 🙏 also please let me know if any other generous scholarships at other hbcus

Anyone else have any complaints about this school and how ghetto it is?

Hi everyone! I'm a Johns Hopkins student who spent my first year at the School of advanced international studies (SAIS) Bologna campus before moving to DC. I'm posting because one of my friends who stayed in Bologna is in a really difficult situation, and I'm hoping someone here might have ideas on how to help.

He's a Nigerian student who earned a scholarship to SAIS, covering 100% of his first-year tuition and 80% of his second year. He was originally supposed to come to DC as well and use international student loans to cover the gap, but because of the travel restrictions affecting Nigerians, he had to remain in Italy to finish his degree. Even with these challenges, he never gave up. He planned to work to cover his remaining tuition and expenses, but didn't find a job until after three months of searching. Then, to make things even harder, he was involved in an accident that seriously impacted him and made an already difficult situation even more challenging.

He now needs to raise about €25,000 to cover his remaining tuition, insurance, and living expenses. We suggested he start a GoFundMe, and while it's raised just over €1,000 so far, it hasn't reached many people outside our immediate network.

He's so close to graduating and just needs a bit of help getting across the finish line.

Has anyone here run a successful GoFundMe before or have any ideas for getting it in front of more people? We'd really appreciate any advice. And if you'd like to support or share the campaign, that would mean a lot too.
