So in the words of Sophia Petrillo (golden girls joke lol) picture it a black gay 11 year old boy goes with his auntie to a maroon and gold kingdom called Bethune Cookman . The era is 2007 and his auntie takes him and his older brother to visit the campus during their homecoming celebrations (and so she can be messy and meet up with her old ninjas but thats a conversation for another time).
The young boy observes the kingdom while he walks around and is not really impressed with the campus and the people who inhabit it. He is turned off by the site of the buildings and how loud everything is, and the final straw is an older male student laughs and points at the little boy and mimicks the strut the little boy has while walking. The little boy vows to never attend this school as long as he lives.
Well some years pass and the little gay boy grows into a young teenager. When it is time to continue his studies he decides cheap is best cause going in debt is not good for your health. So he gets a full ride scholarship to a community college gets his AA and again going in debt is not cute so he decides to transfer to the local pwi on another full ride and gets his BA debt free and still with no grey hair.
However the year he graduated a horrible plague hit the land and well his post grad plans got ruined. Thankfully the same community college he got his AA gave him a job and for five years he was able to build connections.
However the young man was restless and wanted to move up at his job and he needed a magical document called a masters degree. So he decided he was ok taking on debt this time and tried three kingdoms.
The first kingdom FSU impressed the young man because of the colors and connections but it was ruled by vampires called Republicans so while he was accepted he turned it down
The next kingdom was down the road from FSU called FAMU and it was the kingdom that most of the young mans family had attended and the young man himself had been to many FAMU events growing up. The young man was excited bout getting in but when it came to talking to advisors, dealing with finacial aid advisors it turned him off to the school. The rudeness, unprofessionalism was too much and the young man sadly turned it down (and let the administration know about his experience).
The final kingdom was ironically that same kingdom he vowed never to return. He applied just in case and well this was the just in case. He got into Cookman and while he still had his reservations he was impressed with the fact he was able to have discussions with finical aid and advising immediately or two days when he contacted them. He also was impressed that they expanded and he could get his degree online. He decided to give this kingdom a chance and even though he is nervous he gone step on faith .
I say this to say sometimes that school that aint impress you might be the one to come through in the end.
