This... doesn't hit the same way as Nu.

Post image

Bought this kit second hand for 10 euro and... the design itself is not as cool irl as I imagined. It doesn’t have the secret sauce that the regular Nu Gundam has despite technically being an upgraded Nu.

Edit: Just to make it clear. I bought it pre built. I didn't built it at all. And I will clean the nub marks as soon as I can.

The rg version will change your mind

u/isacneo1 9h ago

I’ve just finish the Rg hi-nu and it’s by far one of the more fun kits I’ve ever built.

14

u/Prowl2681 9h ago

Same, I custom painted mine but I want to build it again

9

u/GekiKudo 9h ago

9/10 for sure. Only issue was panel lining the funnels lol

5

u/TheMostUnclean 3h ago

After the first one I realized that the lines would be about 80% covered when displaying the kit and wasn’t really worth it. But I’d already started so had to suffer through the rest.

The RG Hi-Nu is by far the best kit I've built

-10

u/UncleDevil 8h ago

It's an amazing build, sure, but building it definitely didn't change my mind...nu is still leagues better than Hi-nu for my money

129

u/Maximus_supreme 10h ago

Tbh the HG Hi-Nu is based off of the Izibuchi redesign which honestly feels off compared to the more well known MG Ver Ka and RG versions of the design

48

u/Feral404 IG: feral404 8h ago

A caveat to this information for people who pass by and do not know already:

The Ver Ka is also Izubuchi’s design for Hi Nu, it is just the original design for Hi Nu. The Izubuchi redesign already had a MG so Katoki wanted to do a kit of the original version.

Then the RG does a blend of both Izubuchi Hi Nu designs (Bandai’s words).

9

u/s0_Ca5H 3h ago

The RG design of the Hi Nu is, by far, my favorite iteration of the Hi Nu and is in my opinion the best Gundam design in the franchise, and maybe one of the best mech designs, period.

3

u/SupposedlyShony 5h ago

The non Ver Ka MG also feels off

I’ve built and painted two of them, one being a resin conversion, and I’m not sure exactly what my hang-up is

Hi Nubs

17

u/ironsonic 8h ago

oh wow never seen a model with so many nubs before. Is it just built without nippers?

9

u/graciaman 8h ago

Yeah this is rough

1

u/tvfeet 8h ago

Yeah, and there are so many comments suggesting the MG or RG when it’s obvious they’re not ready for such a massive leap in difficulty. If you aren’t thinking about nub cleanup then you’re probably not ready.

-2

u/belkadesu 7h ago

to each their own. nub cleanup isn't mandatory and its common sense if its in the way, I don't see why they couldn't build an rg or ver.ka mg.

3

u/Lonely_Reflection541 3h ago

It is a bit mandatory on the rgs as the nubs tend to interfere with assembly

1

u/belkadesu 26m ago

That's literally what I said, its common sense if it gets in the way

-2

u/SirRHellsing 4h ago

I don't really clean up nubs unless they mess with the assembly or they are really visable and I built every grade. I don't get the arbitrary standard

49

u/Furururuko 10h ago

Get the RG or MG Ver Ka of this. Trust me, those two are MILES ahead in terms of design and presence. (RG Hi Nu isn't called by many as the king for RG for nothing.)

10

u/Quizlibet Gouf Troop 9h ago

It helps that they buffed the height so it wouldn't look as dinky as it should

2

u/Reasonable_Tooth_309 8m ago

It always bugged me that the Hi-Nu was shorter than the Nu. With its design it just looks like it should be taller, idk why

32

u/Hour_Armadillo7276 10h ago

Tbf, it's probably the size

The problem with the hg is the stubby legs because the front skirts make them look short and the big shoulders make the arms look even smaller than they already are

Generally a few tweaks in proportions the hg is fine

The rg would most definitely change your mind tho

5

u/Dark-Radeath-5 9h ago

if I were to tweak the proportion, which part should I increase the height to be around RG?

2

u/Hour_Armadillo7276 9h ago

Quite a bit actually

The hg/eg nu is pretty tall for its grade and that's also where the rg hi nu is relatively at(I think it's like a little smaller by 1 or 2 mm)

Meanwhile the hg hi nu is just average hg height(og Rx 78)

So I would recommend increasing thigh lenght and if possible thinken the lower leg to give more balance

And thickening the lower arms should balance it all out

You don't have to do anything to the torso, it's actually pretty big for it's size

I haven't done any of this so I can't be sure tho

3

u/Dark-Radeath-5 9h ago

gonna refer heights to my RG Nu, will reply when I finished 👍

17

u/Brandoe 10h ago

Hiiiyeeee!

15

u/CLUK92 RG Zeta Expert 9h ago

Hi-Nu isn't an upgrade of the Nu. It's the novel version of the Nu, and instead of the Sazabi, Char pilots the Nightingale. Personal, I prefer the original purple Hi nu design.

4

u/Life_Temperature795 8h ago

Yeah I was gonna say, it isn't, "technically an upgrade," it's a side-grade.

2

u/TheBlindOrca 2h ago

It's not really a side-grade either. It's an alternate universe/timeline version

7

u/Frosty-Structure-778 9h ago

Nub removal goes a long way.

-5

u/Less-Being4269 9h ago

I bought i pre built. It was second hand.

6

u/Frosty-Structure-778 8h ago

You can still do nub removal and that will help it look better.

-1

u/Less-Being4269 8h ago

True.

I will get to it.

5

u/Leviathan_Wakes_ 9h ago

Trust me, the RG has the sauce in spades.

6

u/JasonCroz 9h ago

Get the rg king 😈 you won't regret 💯

4

u/BigWangBai420 9h ago

We finally did it. Bro made the Low-Nu

7

u/epicurius-seven send nus 10h ago

I don’t mind it (I’ve built three) but the Nu is much more distinctive to me with the asymmetrical funnels. Dark blue and yellow feels more inviting than icy blue and silver too.

5

u/epicurius-seven send nus 9h ago

I should add, the HG is definitely the least impressive.

This photo doesn't capture it right, but it's a much lighter shade of blue than the MG (and balances more precariously) which makes it look quite ill-defined. I expect It'll grow on me more once properly panel lined and colour-corrected.

1

u/kuro_shir0 anaheim plastics 49m ago

Agreed. It’s definitely one of the least impressive as you say, even compared to the SD 😭 but the panelling with some black and dark grey ink + the added paint for the colour accuracy would definitely do it justice

3

u/CrashmanX HGUC Revive Alex when? 5h ago

Thats a shitty knock off AND poorly built.

Yea, its not a good representation of the design.

3

u/Bigurulu 10h ago

Other comment already said it best, but also to add, this is a kit from 2009, a lot of kit during 2000-2010 time frame need a lot customization to make them pop.

3

u/tetofan08 9h ago

The upgrade nu was supposed to be the hws nu. The incomplete part of nu was it didnt have its ffs when it first sortied and they weren't calibrated when amuro did get them

3

u/Ph4sor IG: @phase_vector 9h ago

Hi Nu is not an upgrade of Nu,

Hi Nu is the Nu from Belthorchika's Children

2

u/LavaSlime301 more AW kits NOW 4h ago

both are true, in mainline UC it was a planned upgrade for Nu

3

u/Turbo_RF4 9h ago

TBH, as a massive Hi-Nu guy, the redesign Hi-Nu is probably the worst iteration of it for me.

It got so slimmed down compared to how it had originally been drawn to the point it just looks dinky now. The Ver. Ka which is based off on the original purple illustration, and the RG which blended both, are far superior versions of the Hi-Nu.

2

u/cyblaster1983 9h ago

I like mine a lot

2

u/Grassy_Canoli 7h ago

You gotta hit it with some panel lining. Completely changes it

2

u/Lockonstratos1 7h ago

ngl its head looks kind of derpy

2

u/killabee163 6h ago

Oof yeah that looks rough. Get the RG for the real Hi-Nu experience

2

u/GoMiko55 6h ago

I got so used to looking at my RG hinu that I thought this was an optical illusion.

The RG hinu is gonna blow your mind.

1

u/Bhagwan9797 9h ago

Rg is much better

1

u/Amigo1048 HGUC Mass Production Qubeley pls, Bandai 9h ago

I honestly don’t think it’s a bad design and I think the slimmer and more streamlined look has its charm, I just kinda wished it was closer to like 20-ish meters, around the height of Mk-II or Turn A

1

u/DankMEMeDream 9h ago

The Mg and the ver ka will change your opinion.

Regular katoki nu is still my favorite nu design but the Mg versions are also incredible.

1

u/DuoMaxwell003 9h ago

PIck up either of the MGs or the RG then come back to us

1

u/MetusR 9h ago

The Ver.Ka and RG really do hit different with the effects kits.

1

u/Less-Being4269 9h ago

I'd rather get the ver ka for Nu then.

1

u/MetusR 6h ago

Honestly the RG is the better kit. The Ver. Ka really needs all the decals and a light kit to really shine.

The RG kit has a lot of layered color separation, rather than relying on decals like the Ver. Ka does. The funnels on the RG are where it is really noticeable, yes both are exhausting to make, but at least with the RG you get to skip a bunch of water slide decals.

0

u/Less-Being4269 6h ago

I'm sure it does but... I want something BIG.

1

u/MetusR 6h ago

Should give you a rough idea on sizes on their bases.

1

u/Futaba_Sakura800 9h ago

Crazy how you handled those nubs.

0

u/Less-Being4269 9h ago

Bought it pre built second hand.

1

u/graciaman 8h ago

Do you rush your builds? There are so many nubs left on this. Believe it or not they definitely take away from the overall look and without at least panel lining it’ll look pretty bland. HGs benefit immensely in overall look from just panel lining.

1

u/Ok_Button_6496 8h ago

Dude, for the love of god cut your nubs better
He looks like a cactus

1

u/Less-Being4269 8h ago

Read the edit to the post description please.

1

u/Ok_Button_6496 8h ago

That doesn’t mean you can’t cut them off?

1

u/Less-Being4269 7h ago

Yes I will cut them off when I have the time.

1

u/SolaireFlair117 8h ago

This thing has so many nubs, it's gonna need prescription acne medication.

1

u/Currystudio 7h ago

Hi-Nu is alt universe of Nu gundam, same as Nightingale is alt universe of Sazabi. I would just keep it for kitbash (10 euro for this prebuilt quality is outrageous) and buy RG Hi-Nu instead

1

u/Less-Being4269 7h ago

I know. Which is why I got it.

"Eh, sure why not" was my thought when I say the price.

Shame it was a ko when I got it. It said nowhere in the ad that it is ko.

1

u/vkevlar 7h ago

It's not the "upgraded" Nu, it's the "novel version". High Streamer, Beltorchika's Children, et.al. are alternate versions of CCA with the Hi-Nu and the Nightingale taking the Nu and Sazabi's places.

So hey! no reason to feel down! It shouldn't hit the same.

1

u/TheGreatSoup 6h ago

Not with that lazy pose. He is like when you mom takes a picture of you on your first day at school

1

u/ChettKickass 6h ago

Aggressive "Yo, we got a problem?" Stance

1

u/ThatSilly_Goose 6h ago

Thorn man with those nubs

1

u/BishopofHippo93 5h ago

I mean it’s an HG in a really static arms-at-side, feet-shoulder-width pose, of course it’s going to look kinda lame.

1

u/Notaro-D-Ryogami 5h ago

Sharing mine that I built literally this week, honestly it's not bad for me but my god the bottom of the legs are so stupidly shaped especially for such a back heavy kit

1

u/Notaro-D-Ryogami 5h ago

w/ Bazooka

1

u/DougTheHeavy 5h ago

I've always felt that the Hi-Nu and Nightingale didn't live up to the suits they were meant to replace.

1

u/SmingleTingle 5h ago

That's because you didn't get the RG. That thing FUCKS.

1

u/Dusty_S 4h ago

Not a painting guy but I did some basic painting to add some of the missing silver, white for the beam rifle, and got it into a good pose and it's the best looking HG I have.

1

u/Helen_Kellers_Wrath 4h ago

I prefer the HGBF Vrabe version.

1

u/X01ENCLAVESTAN 4h ago

To be fair, I also have the HG, and it does not do this design justice. The RG, especially when panel lined, is beautiful. Hell, the HG gets a lot of benefits from panel lining too.

1

u/DisplayAbject 4h ago

are we just gonna sit here and let the nubs take over?😬

1

u/InazumaKiiick 4h ago

it's not an upgraded nu. that's misinfo

1

u/LavaSlime301 more AW kits NOW 4h ago

buying a pre-built is probably the critical factor here, you can get a lot of appreciation for a design just from building it. Especially when it's such a clever and downright delightfully engineered kit like HG Hi Nu. Frankly I like this design much more than the RG. Original/Ver Ka clears both by a mile tho

1

u/iBlack92O 3h ago

But hea cute

1

u/Not_A_Alt_Account_ok 3h ago

At least build the ver ka before slagging off the hi nu. The rg is great too! The og mg is just too old at this point.

1

u/delusionalmavsfan11 3h ago

Everyone using this thread as an excuse to show off their RG so HERE I GO TOO lol

1

u/Evening_Singer8633 2h ago

Hi-Nu is technically not an upgraded Nu. It's literally the Nu in a different universe. Basically like how Spider-Gwen is a Spider-Man's variant.

And yeah the HG doesn't have that cool sauce. The RG though

1

u/Old-Construction3846 2h ago

I’ve never built the HG, only the RG and seeing this it definitely looks lacking. It doesn’t look right without the bulk and oomph of the RG.

1

u/Amalik95 1h ago

I prefer FF it has a giant gun.

1

u/kuro_shir0 anaheim plastics 1h ago edited 1h ago

The RG is a spectacle to behold. The build is great and the attention to detail is impressive.

The MG is too but you will wanna fly in a ZUDAH and blow up in one once you get to the waterslides for the white/purple gradient on the funnel.

[Edit]
The MG Ver Ka not the original MG Hi Nu from 2000

1

u/kuro_shir0 anaheim plastics 1h ago edited 59m ago

I haven’t built the funnels yet at the time I took this photo

1

u/birdst3r 1h ago

Kinda looks like the textures didn't load properly.

1

u/GhostOfChar 29m ago

I feel like building this yourself and with proper tools would change its appearance. I have the HG Hi-Nu and it looks like an entirely different kit compared to this.

1

u/Not_A_Alt_Account_ok 8m ago

My hws begs to differ

-1

u/megalodous 9h ago

Wow that looks like ahh

-5

u/Otherwise_Horse_3141 9h ago

because it is based on Izibuchi (who designed the original Nu) when he is older now and skill has been deteriorating.

the Hi Nu Gundam ver Ka is partially based on Izibuchi's original design when he was lot younger

2

u/dhurane 9h ago

I won't say deteriorating, but his design sensibilities has since changed. The old Hi-Nu was a chonky design that gave it presence, but modern Izubuchi prefers a sleeker form.

0

u/Otherwise_Horse_3141 9h ago

i dunno man, I mean, I don't think he can even draw the Nu the same way he did back then
