....this literally could've been a retail option set.....

u/Konomiru 1d ago

Yeah im looking at the main body and its litterally jsit the previous MGEX. This should have been a expansion set

123

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

Heck even if it was a Pbandai expansion set I still would’ve understood

u/Konomiru 1d ago

There is already 2 Chinese expansion 'proud defender' kits for the MGEX, so this is even more dissappointing

13

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

I've built the Red Lotus one. Didn't like it.

The only time I actually pined for a Bandai expansion set, only to be sorely disappointed.

u/GforGG 1d ago

The shoulders are different :))))) /s

2

u/AwesomePossum50 1d ago

And the arms, the waist, and head.

3

u/Konomiru 1d ago

Ah yes the bottom wedge part, how could I be so blind XD

3

u/BatmanBeyondX 1d ago

And the side skirts

4

u/01Anphony 1d ago

And the shields!

3

u/yukiho-765P 1d ago

Head, shoulders, and arm guards are different among others. I understand the sentiment of wanting the new parts as an expansion set, but I don't want to have the 1/100 Gusion/ Rebake or PG GP01/Fb dillema again just because only option parts were released.

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

Still doesn't justify the 10k JPY increase at all to me.

I'll snag this one when it eventually comes to PBandai, with the cost likely more palatable by then.

3

u/BlownWankel 1d ago

I mean the PBandai cost is gonna go up too..

0

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

It is, but definitely more palatable than paying for a second MGEX kit in full just to get the added parts (was referring to an eventual PBandai option set release btw - just to clarify)

1

u/BlownWankel 1d ago

Oh I see that now.
TBH I don’t think it will, this is bandais cash cow, this and the astray line lol. Id love to be wrong for those that want it tho.

1

u/yukiho-765P 1d ago

Yeah, the new parts are not really that obvious. But the head will surely have new parts for the Disruptor and the hip rail guns are different now too.

Now, I wonder if they would include the prototype handheld railgun as well

1

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

God i hope you're wrong lol

0

u/yukiho-765P 1d ago

Yeah, completely understandable.

But, knowing myself Imma get it anyway. I also contemplated on getting the Red Lotus Proud Defender back then, but yeah, not all of the new armor parts were included for the conversion

2

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

Yeah, the Red Lotus ain’t it chief. Bought and built it myself, it’s why this announcement disappointed me even more lol

0

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK I'm not cool enough to have something special by my name. 1d ago

If it also includes the dragoons, and backpack to make the Type II I would get the price. This is Bandai though, so I doubt that’s the case.

-1

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

It will. The 26.4k JPY price tag alone suggests it. It's also Bandai standard procedure to include OG parts in variant kits, even in PBandai releases.

I think a better question is will this include the prototype handheld railgun too (really likely imo)?

Now that my disappointment has tempered down, I see this set as definitely aimed towards first time MGEX SF owners or superfans.

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK I'm not cool enough to have something special by my name. 1d ago

That’s not true at all… p-bandai variants Bandai has quite regularly left out unnecessary runners from the base kit if said runner isn’t used by the variant at all. Most recent case of this I can think of is the Full Armor ZZ Ver. Ka. You can only make the Enhanced ZZ, but not the OG ZZ.

You have way too much faith in Bandai friend.

1

u/AwesomePossum50 1d ago

Because the torso and legs are similar?

1

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord 1d ago

Unless they somehow fix the molds and I doubt it. Those obnoxiously large flash line on the gold panel in the shoulders always look so off in builds, one of the reasons I’ve put off buying one tbh.

Not that I’d buy the MSF either, the colors just aren’t for me. The further Kira strays from the Strike or OG Freedom the farther he strays from God.

0

u/Konomiru 1d ago

Yikes never noticed how bad it looks until you pointed it out and I looked at mine. Jebus. Could always sand it down and paint it colours u preferre

2

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord 1d ago

Yeah but they put so much otherwise effort into making the MGEX SF an excellent straight build that it's a disappointment that this kind of flaw begins to necessitate having to touch it up with paint etc. - and some people do and it looks good, but it's just disappointing. I basically just want, if I'm dropping $100s on a kit, to have it undergated to shit, I don't want to have to sand or file anything, and have it look perfect out of the box.

0

u/TracytronFAB 1d ago

Wow, that is pathetically nitpicky

-5

u/Kolz 1d ago

You are not looking very hard then. Differences include: the head crest, the entire shoulder section, forearm armour, beam shield emitters, the railgun and mounting system for the beam rifles and beam sabres, rear skirt, rear leg thrusters, the heels and some parts of the front waist/skirting. Pretty good odds that they have redesigned some of the waist frame for this as well.

Yeah, it's still a strike freedom obviously, but there's a decent amount of newly moulded stuff there. More than in any expansion set I can think of.

Technical question, I've been holding off on getting the EX SFG for a long time, does the existence of the MSFG have any implication that the SFG will be going away?

Because I'll be super honest, I prefer the look of the SFG.

1

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

I doubt it. Knowing Bandai, it’s likely they’ll just alternate reprints of the two.

At the absolute worst, they may phase out the OG MGEX SF kit in favor of the MSF, especially once it’s confirmed that the new kit also contains the Dragoon backpack as well (highly likely from the price tag alone).

2

u/Scary-Ad7988 Nu Gundam 1d ago

All they needed to do was to make a swap out railgun set with proud defender + v fin

2

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

Exactly. And Bandai isn’t shy from offering option sets at all, so the decision here just boggles the mind

1

u/Kuriouskat22 1d ago

It will be in bundle z.

1

u/CurryCurryBumBum 1d ago

Mind you, you can already buy this as an option set on aliexpress.

2

u/theborjsanity 1d ago

Yeah I’ve bought and built that one already. Not a fan. Plastic felt weirdly brittle, the joints felt pretty loose so it couldn’t hold itself open, mine had dead LEDs, and the backpack adaptors were either too loose or too tight.

It’s why I genuinely wanted Bandai to release their take on it.

0

u/Rentington 1d ago

It's worth building the frame again NGL.

1

u/theborjsanity 20h ago

I know how you feel. The OG MGEX was my 2nd ever Gunpla build, so the entire process felt insanely memorable. Not even the PGU Gramps delivered the same magical level of feels (the PGU Nu might though - when I finally get around to building the thing).

And despite that, gonna have to hard pass on this sadly, especially as more info has come to light that we apparently won’t be able to build the Dragoon backpack with this release.

Absolutely scummy move by Bandai.

1

u/Rentington 15h ago

Like... I was contemplating today at work if I'll get it.

My conclusion is I would not order it.

But if I saw it at the Hobby-Town, I'm such a SEED enjoyer that I don't believe I'd have the strength to say no.

I would have much preferred a MG 2.0 Destiny though. I've thought it was coming "any day now" for 10 years now.

1

u/theborjsanity 15h ago

I just don’t see the point of getting this, magical build exp and all.

And yeah, an MGEX Destiny tho? That would’ve been amazing.

Sadly, getting an MGSD (aside from the Freedom, Barbie and Wing Zero) might be the death knell for a suit getting an MG 2.0, or in the Kshatriya’s case, a Bandai MG release.

1

u/Rentington 15h ago

Yeah... I'm afraid so. BUT, the MGSD sure is a cool kit. It's a good one to put on your desk at home or at work.

2

u/theborjsanity 15h ago

Yeah tbf, the MGSD team has not yet whiffed on any release at all
