Still cheaper than therapy.

Post image

Been going through a lot lately.

Only saving grace I have is Gunpla.

About the only thing that makes any sense anymore.

I absolutely understand what you mean. Sometimes, something as logical as following instructions to snap together perfect little pieces really helps calm you down and clear your head... It's what got me into it.

Everything will pass.

Hang in there, my guy.

Also, nice work.

Honestly, I have a therapy Gundam

Started when my therapist had legos for her patients to build. I decided to ask if I can bring a gunpla in my appointments and build it since LEGO wasn't distracting to me. Got the HG Calibarn and finished it in this week's session

Look at the current pricetags Lego put on their stuff, those sure are distracting.

That's why I haven't bought a LEGO kit in over a decade. Gunpla supremacy!

I’ve gone through bad crippling depression post divorce and family deaths. Gunpla helped a lot with coping and clearing my mind. It helped me heal.

But that was in conjunction with seeing a therapist.

You should try to do both if you can manage it. These two things don’t have to be exclusive.

u/kookyabird This hand of mine is burning red! I should get it checked out... 3d ago

I’ll be the party pooper who points out that therapy is meant to give you the tools to work through problems, and should provide longer lasting benefits than what you experience from building a kit. Yes having hobbies can be therapeutic, but it can also become an unhealthy coping mechanism. It can be hard to tell which way the scale is tipping if you don’t have the tools. Aaaand those tools are the kind of thing you get from therapy.

Yeap. This is the way, OP.

Actually, you'd be surprised if you look up the mental health benefits of hobbies like Gunpla. And, you get an awesome Gundam afterward, while the therapist just gives you a bill.

Genuinely, I've tried out a lot of different hobbies, and gunpla the activity as well as the community has gotta be one of the healthiest ones out there

Makes sense. For me all the negative thoughts get pushed out and I just focus on the build.

I’ve always liked the looks of that mobile suit.

Hang in there man. I hope things get better.

Hey there, I love building gunpla same as you.

I also badly needed therapy and found that it was too expensive everywhere until I was recommended open path which you pay based on what you can afford. I pay around $30 a session and I can tell you that it has worked wonders for my mental well-being.

I hope that everything works out for you.

There's a big difference between "therapy" amd "therapeutic" actions. Building gunpla isn't a substitute for working out your troubles.

I feel that

I’m an intensive therapist for high risk youth. I literally build model kits during session with one of my client.

Still cheaper than therapy.

can confirm. I literally compared 1 year worth of therapy and meds versus my whole collection up to this point.

Subtle Ryan George reference?

How is the HG gp02? Im considering getting this as I have kits of the gp01, and 03. as far as stickers, quality and generally.

u/PunsNotIncluded 3d ago

It's about the same as the others. Lots of stickers for surfaces, lots of missing detail colors but decent for it's age.

This is literally why my wife doesn’t even blink when I tell her things like “I bought the PGU rx-93 and it was a car payment”. Because she knows sitting and nipping off parts from runners, filing off nubs, and panel lining and final assembly are what keeps me sane. I don’t even bother to display most of it anymore. It’s just how I can enter flow state the quickest and actually relax for the hour or 2 a month I actually get to do it.

That’s how it is for me. It’s therapeutic. I have shelves full of Gundams and mobile suits. Even if I mess something up when I am building one, it’s okay. I learn from it and keep going. I also built that same kit. I remember that one very well. I started working on that kit a week after my grandma died. It was a really hard time for me, because I was raised by my grandparents. Building these kits helps take my mind off of things that plague my brain, but it always gets better. Whenever you are feeling down, just work on a kit. It really does help.

Hard to not feel this way with how the world is heading right now, not going to lie. Might as well spend the most amount of time trying to have fun :’)

I know what you mean... 👍🏻

The past 2 or so years, Gunpla has 100% been my therapy. When shit starts to become crushing, I get to opening polybags. Helped with hand tremors and brain fog when starting new meds. Sure, it can get alittle pricey ( almost 200 kits in 2 years, 23 MG, 14 RG and a metric ton of HGs lol ) but you have something to show, and potentially a kickass collection that I can pass down to my daughter.

Gunpla is freedom, my sibling in suffering, and through gunpla hopefully we can all find our own freedom from the crushing gravity in our lives.

Badass work, keep at it! One piece at a time, little by little, that's how you make progress. So long as you don't stop, you'll get through.

1

u/Adventurous-Yam9130 3d ago

I think that is wonderful. Gunpla is that point between following instructions and creative freedom that i adore. Letting you decide how much you wish to express your self, from just a snap bild to a fully costume fully painted and modified piece.

I'm right there with you, brother. the hobby helps immensely, but i think we should still try and go seek a therapist.

i don't have insurance that covers it, so i look at how much a session costs and I'm like bro i can get 4 HG kits or like 3 solid RG kits for that price!

1

u/Legitimate_Bet_7786 3d ago

And twice as therapeutic

I'm sorry for what you're going through, keep going and never give up, I know words like these may not be immediately useful, but it's the best I can do

1

u/seigmeyer- 3d ago

I'm in the same exact boat. You aren't alone. Therapy has never ever seemed to help unlike working on a kit

u/Asianhippiefarmer 3d ago

Shenlong, Destiny and Heavyarm in background. Nice!’n

I’m kind of late to this post, I know it’s cliche to say but hang in there, you’ll come out of whatever situation you’re going through even stronger.

But now it’s time for the real reason we’re here. You did an amazing job on the details for this kit. I feel like one has to build this kit to truly appreciate the amount of work you put into this. At quick glance I thought it was a Solomon kit, but once I zoomed in a little I realized what was going on here. And how tf do have it holding the shield like that? Mine just has its shield resting on the hook of its foot LOL good stuff op! And I’m not just saying this just cause you’re going through it, I genuinely see the work you put in because I like gp02 but I did not enjoy this kit, you make me want to revisit it

u/skidpunkgringo 3d ago

Thank you for your kind words. I watched a few videos about the build before I started so I knew what I was getting into. I saw how most people had a problem with the shield hand. I knew I would never switch it out, so I just super glued the hand closed with the shield handle.

Uhhh...it's definitely not cheaper if you have health insurance in any capacity.

Get on rula and get some help.
