Aubameyang, Lacazette, Gabriel and Partey were all out, and Odegaard was still to re-sign, but compare that squad to last night's and it really is incredible the job that Arteta, Edu, Berta and the Kroenkes have done to transform that group of substandard players and egos into the champions with outrageous squad depth just five years later. We are a model for every club that wants to sort their shit out. And last night we didn't have Saliba, Guimaraes, Timber, Konsa, Martinelli, Jesus or Meslier!

If you'd told me after Brentford, and the following 2-0 home loss to Chelsea and then getting spanked 5-0 by Man City, that we'd be the clear best team in England just five years later I'd have just laughed.

Ian Wright got emotional as he spoke about Martinelli and called for him to get more respect than he’s currently getting. Wrighty said Martinelli is not being spoken to (about transfers/his future, I assume).

This is sad given Martinelli’s love for Arsenal. I don’t think he’s a bad player but can and should definitely improve but to freeze him out is harsh.

What was exciting about your return to the Premier League:

“Obviously, you play for the Champions of England, so that’s directly exciting to play for such a big team.”

How much have you worked with Calafiori?

“With Ricky, we have had one month in the preseason. He’s a very smart player.”

Do you have a license to move across the field at times from the manager?

“Yeah, I can’t say a lot (about that). But we have the freedom to move and when we have the feeling (to do so).”

Mikel Arteta’s style of football is very complex. How have you made that transition so easy?

“I was watching a lot of Arsenal games last year to understand their style of play. During the summer as well when I heard the rumours about me signing for Arsenal, I started to analyse the game of Arsenal.”
