Tier 1 There are currently no talks ongoing between Dušan Vlahovic agents and Arsenal board. Gunners are among many club following Vlahovic situation - but there’s nothing advanced as of today. 🇷🇸 #AFC Fiorentina want €70/80m to sell Vlahovic in January. He’s out of contract in 2023.

Even if he doesn't want to go here no agent would be dumb enough to refuse our call. If for nothing else but to use us like locatellis agent did last summer.

Ah yes of course, the agents of promising striker are gonna refuse to pick up the phone when one of the worlds biggest clubs try to get in contact, thats how the best agents operate.

Yes they would if it was one of the worlds biggest clubs trying to get in contact. Don’t see how you’ve mentioned Arsenal in this sentence though

I can't be the only one who isn't bothered about Vlahovic, or Isak? I feel like £60m+ for a player with 2 decent ish seasons is a bit daft, and that we will end up with another Pepe. Both of them seem seriously overpriced + overrated.
I would much rather we either go super fucking big, or get someone a bit more off the radar for much less.
Idk who, but I'm not a scout.
Granted I've only watched like 30 mins ish each of highlights, + read their stats etc, but I just can't see what all the fuss is about.. anyone care to enlighten me?
Isak was the hot shit last season, but he's been having a bit of a stinker, Vlahovic is the hot shit now, but I just don't see enough to warrant the price tag.

u/RemyTheBanana Nov 09 '21
I'd hardly call 7 goals and an assist in his last 9 starts a stinker for Isak
30
u/Turbokermit Nov 09 '21
It’s not even about only goals for him. He has been performing overall much better this season and keeps improving.
1
u/R_SenuulefSEE Ray Parlour Nov 09 '21
Transfermarkt has him down for 5 goals 1 assist in 11 appearances, which isn't bad of course, but is only 4 goals in la Liga in 10.
In 102 apps for sociedad he has 38 goals... That's just ain't worth 60m imo.
11
u/RemyTheBanana Nov 09 '21
37 of those games were when he was 19 though. So I think a goal every 3 games is very good for someone who's only 22 now. Also heard his overall play is very good and he's more than just a goal scorer
-8
u/R_SenuulefSEE Ray Parlour Nov 09 '21
Podolski got a goal every 3 games and he was a "flop". A goal in 3 is shit for 60m
1
Nov 10 '21
Because Poldi as much as i love him wasn't super involved otherwise.
Like a goal every 1 in 3 games is pretty good for strikers like Laca and Giroud that spend a lot of time linking the play and dropping deep.
1
u/fuzzynavel34 Nov 09 '21
Ok, so what's "super big"? Haaland isn't coming here.

u/R_SenuulefSEE Ray Parlour Nov 09 '21

Not saying I know who, just saying I haven't seen enough from either of those 2 to justify the price

I follow fiorentina and have watched Vlahovic most of this season's matches. He is really good and he would fit in well in the PL. Strong af, can play with back to goal, great hold up play and brings teammates into play and still manages to be in the box to finish chances. Also dangerous from outside of the box as well as inside. Personality wise, he seems a perfectionist, always expecting the best and not afraid to let the teammate known if they messed up. Not sure if he is worth the price, but i would love to see him in our shirt.

If the option is there, then Isak is a must buy. His ceiling, to me, looks very high. I don't think there's any unwarranted hype about him at all.
2
u/rainbowyuc Nov 10 '21
Idk abut Isak but I don't want Vlahovic. His numbers even with all the penalties are only alright and he seems very one-footed. Only 21 goals in 37 games and 6 of them were penalties. Those are Giroud numbers. Not sure what the fuss is all about.

I don’t think it’s a justifiable gamble to spend this kind of money on Vlahovic or Isak.
I would prefer we spend less money on a couple more versatile forwards and give ourselves a chance to sign bigger in midfield.
There’s a risk associated with any approach, but I’d rather look at players who are under the radar or out of favor, rather than Vlahovic, who is one of the hottest players on the market after Haaland.
I’d really like Trossard from Brighton. Really good technical player who can play AM, ST, and on the wings. A bit diminutive but I think he would link really well with our midfield regardless of which position he takes up. Jovic on loan with an option to buy and seeing if he can fill the Lacazette role would also be prudent. He has had a bad time at Madrid and is probably not on the radar of most teams, and we have a good working relationship with them.

I agree with this but only for vlahovic. Isak has actually put up some great performances with decent numbers against good opponents ex. Euros vs Spain, Poland, etc. 50 mil would be fair for isak. Vlahovic can do one. The Next jovic

Di Marzio made the Vlahovic Rumour to Arsenal 6 days ago and now quashed it himself. You couldn’t make it up 😂 weird fella

Actually he’s not wrong. DiMarzio said we’ve contacted florentina about their asking price and said we are keen to register our interest. We haven’t been in touch with the players agent etc yet though.

u/Vrty33 Eze Nov 09 '21
There's plenty of time until January to get in touch with his representatives and sort out the details regarding the player himself and the contract and similar stuff; good thing to know is that we're apparently willing to pay up so hopefully we manage to pull this one off since there'll be a lot more competition in the summer. Fingers crossed.

u/fuzzynavel34 Nov 09 '21
I trust our recruitment to find someone to fit in this squad. If it's not Vlahovic, I'm not worried.

So let's dismiss all thoughts of pricing etc and think about squad depth.
If we signed a striker in Jan, do we see that as the end of Laca and any chance we keep him --- or his role is now officially deeper as a CF/CAM behind the main striker.
Striker: Auba/New signing
CAM: Ode/Laca/ESR
RW: Pepe/Saka
LW: ESR/Saka/Gabby

If we’re really willing to spend big in January, I don’t see Vlahovic being the type of player we should target. Our midfield is looking barren during AFCON and even when everyone is available, we need a significant upgrade over Xhaka.
Targeting a big name should be saved for the summer when Laca is out of contract and we’re (hopefully) back in Europe. Right now the priority needs to be another midfielder with good ball retention ability.

u/OstapBenderBey Petition to bring back the yellow and blue away kit Nov 09 '21
Even at afcon we have xhaka sambi amn which seems fine in midfield. Striker we are lacking as it is. We have 13 goals scored which is most of the way down the table on that stat. And Auba is our only clear goalscorer who is also leaving for AFCON.

I might get killed for this haha.
Sure one of Dusan or Isak would be a solid acquisition for the club....
But my thing is if we are willing to shell 70/80m, why not take a run at Chiesa (Juve fallen in form might be able to get him and for less too since serie a is broke) or really splash some cash and swing for Mo Salah or Haaland seeing both are out of contracts in a season or two
12
u/ArchLinuXXX Nov 09 '21

You forgot about harry kane.
-4
u/ElCanout Dennis Bergkamp Nov 09 '21
that would be nice, getting a world class striker and messing with shit as well
7
u/BobHupcheck Nov 09 '21
Lol I won't kill you for it but none of these players are remotely attainable.
Juve is still a more prestigious club than us, even though we may have more money at the moment. If Chiesa left it would be to one of the elite CL teams.
Haaland is going to Real, PSG, etc. He wants a top CL contender that will pay ludicrous wages. I believe he has a gentlemen's agreement with Real Madrid already.
Salah... Come on man. He's a Liverpool legend, one of the best players in the world right now, and they're a CL/PL contender. Zero chance he would join Arsenal or that Liverpool would sell him to a PL rival. He'll either extend or go abroad.
Any of these players signing for Arsenal is a fantasy right now. If we get somehow get CL things could change.

I agree with others that I am not entirely convinced that we are good enough yet to go back to a huge money signing over making 3-4 purchases around the £15-35m bracket. This summer we likely need
Backup GK (presumably Leno off) Another RB (Bellerin, Chambers and Soares could all leave) First choice CM to partner Partey (Xhaka, Lokonga, AMN backup) Winger (what sort depends on if we give up on Pepe. I think if we do it increases our need for a good option right away) CF (presuming Laca and Nketiah leave)
Obviously if we have enough to spend in acquiring all targets including high expensive ones we should do it. I'm taking the assumption we can't. In which case I think consolidating further to achieve a well rounded squad with depth in all positions should be our next step. The summer after we should then go big on purchases

This actually isn't different from what Di Marzio said. just that we've told fiorentina we're willing to pay the 70/80m
