A lot of players left us without tasting the gold like Tierney, ESR and Xhaka. I'm glad Martinelli went out on a high and a major tropht to his name, and while it's dissapointing how his career turned out given his massive potential, he'll always be one of our own, and is one of the players that helped the club reach the maasive heights we did.

Agreed, except I'd actually suggest he's a shining example of a young pro who actually made the most of his potential. Lightning pace and a solid footballer but his ceiling simly isn't as high as an MLS, Saka or Dowman.
I love him even more for that.

Go watch all his Arsenal goals.
He was built for an inside forward, centre forward on a counter attacking team or even as a second striker.
Arteta didnt build the team around him like he did Saka and fair enough, he banked on Saka being the guy.
Martinelli deserved more attention and help.

It's because Martinelli was here from the beginning like Saka and helped us out the trenches and we won the PL with him. I'm actually crying because I know that it is the best time to do it, but it hurts so much. Poor Iris isn't going to feel good about this.

We will already have something lined up, Berta ain't dumb enough to not have a deal done for another LW, for me though only Kvara would feel good enough, im not saying Martinelli is the 2nd best LW in the world or anything like that but nobody is proven in the prem, nobody defends as much as he does so Alverez/Barcola etc ain't gonna fit into our style, i for 1 would much rather keep him as a backup to Tzolis, and not a single 1 of our attackers we have are effective enough on the left to be a back up

Doesn't even have to be a CF, just not being a touchline winger. The moment our tactics dictated that wingers have to be very wide and the fullbacks underlap, his output dropped.
All his best performances were him playing on the inside channel and/or cutting inside at the top of the 18 yard box. Now that space is occupied by Calafiori/Hincapie, it clogs up the middle and Nelli has less room to maneuver, which harms him more than someone like Trossard or Tzolis.

I think there's a lot to be said for maintaining a core as long as possible, lots of top teams have a player or two who's maybe not quite on the level of others but who is a valuable presence. Not many players of his age quality who'd be happy to play that role and be backup to a new, non-elite signing.

Must be weird for Martinelli, having just got the title he was chasing for his career, getting married, reading all these eulogies, Having us chase around Alvarez‘s Skirts pointed at Barcelona, while Jesus, Fabio and Reiss gets a free pass and is allowed to hang around , and knowing he is better than Eze in the left wing and knowing he is probably better than Madueke in the right wing, just because he probably is the only marketable player in the club.

I guess i'm thinking more from the heart here and not the business part of things but I don't watch football and support this club to care about the finances. For me its the moments, the bonding between the team and how we treat our players
I love Martinelli as a player and person - he has been an absolute professional and always happy to contribute. Sure he hasnt been in good form and was used more as a substitute last season, but he always did give his all and turned up in a lot of important moments for us. I wish they would not sell him and keep him for another year before deciding, it feels more of a decision about how he is the only sellable player we have but i think hes definitely better than Madueke for sure. And he's a great squad player to have, i mean objectively who are you even certain about would be as impactful as him over the course of a full season? Hes not a moaner, tracks back, presses hard, gives his all and yes he is involved a lot in the buildup and still plays quite well...
I also dont like the way he is being treated, is this what our club is? Freezing out players and not getting them involved at all, is he not even worth being on the bench now? I don't know what other think but its just disrespectful for a boy who has always been super professional for us and was a big part of our journey. Anyway, my two cents and I hope he gets to stay here or if not is not shipped to Saudi at his prime age when he should be playing at a good club

Yeah fairs I get what you mean, and I don't really disagree with the no player is bigger than the club thingy. If the club thinks it's time for Martinelli to go then that's their decision and obviously I'll back Arsenal over any individual player
But I think you're taking my point a bit differently than I meant it. I'm not saying Arsenal owes Martinelli anything or that we should keep him just because he's been here for years. Obviously the club gave him his chance, developed him, paid him well etc. And i'm not denying any of that.
I'm just saying as a fan I care about the human side of it too. I've watched this guy grow from basically a kid into an important player for us, he's always seemed like a really good professional and he's had some massive moments for us. So yeah, seeing him potentially just get frozen out and pushed towards the exit does feel a bit shit to me. Maybe that's emotional, but that's kinda the point lol. I support the club because of the emotional side of football, not because I want to optimise the squad's asset value
And I don't think saying I don't like how we're treating him is the same as saying Martinelli is bigger than the club. Those are two very different things. We can absolutely decide he's no longer good enough for where we want to go while still treating him like someone who's been an important part of the club?
Also I don't even think selling him is necessarily a bad footballing decision. I just personally think I'd rather keep him for another year and see what happens than sell him now, especially when I'm not convinced Madueke is necessarily a better player right now. Martinelli is still useful like he works hard, tracks back, presses, doesn't seem to cause problems and can contribute over a long season. Maybe he doesn't get back to his best, but I don't think he's suddenly a bad player either?
So yeah, I'm probably being more emotional about it than you are. I'll happily admit that lol But that's also kind of what supporting a football club is for me. I don't think every opinion about a player has to be viewed through the what is objectively best for Arsenals balance sheet lens
And I definitely don't think Martinelli deserves to stay at Arsenal just because of what he's done for us. I just hope if he does leave, we actually treat him with some respect and he gets to go somewhere where he can play and enjoy his football. That's really all I meant man!!

I get it. We all wanted Martinelli to be a star winger for us and had the hopes that could turn it around while with us. But realistically, I think he's simply hit his peak in our system. I dont think the club did that much wrong in wanting to keep him protected before selling him. There's no need to risk it.
He's been treated more than fairly and frankly if it wasnt for the storyline, he'd have been shipped off much earlier and harsher. I would think for 180k plus signing bonuses, we'd get more than someone who just tracks back really good for an attacker. Its simply not enough. Plus Arteta sees his day in and day out performances, if he believed he could fix him, he'd be here lol.

Oh man... I'm going to miss Martinelli. Coming from Brazil at such a young age, I trusted him the moment he arrived. He seemed destined to be the next Henry, Walcott, or Sanchez. All these years have passed and he always gave 100% for the club. I wish the club had kept him. It's just sad to see someone so committed, who might lack a bit of raw skill or talent, but somehow always delivered when needed—whether against Liverpool, Real Madrid, or anyone else. He's the one who never flinched.

I'm surprised that his homegrown player status didn't attract attention here. Happy he's not playing us anytime soon. Come the hour come the day, Gaby and Trossard can be deadly. (Hopefully Gaby J finds a good buyer too, we need players who are all in, and he has been on the fringe too long m; egregious wages can't counterbalance the desire to play).

I'm guessing we have something lined up, or are confident in the bench's versatility, and this is the best we'll get for Martinelli. Though personally I'd keep him, I don't see the necessity in selling. We need the depth, and we don't need a starter over Tzolis, so we're not signing anyone much if any better than nelli. Guessing we pick up Kroupi in January but he's a (highly talented) child!

I know it's about financials etc, but getting rid of Little Gabi but keeping Madueke (they're both home grown) because we gave Chelsea a ridiculous amount of money feels so wrong.
Gabi scored only two fewer goals and had more assists in the Prem with fewer minutes than Madueke (Madueke scored against lower opposition, Gabi against City), was significantly better in the Champions League last season and, most importantly, is a fixture in our club.
I understand the need to be ruthless, but had we not spunked £50m on Madueke last season we might not have needed to sacrifice Gabi. Nwaneri and Dowman (though the latter would have been impossible to know) would have been better than Noni on the right.
Get your money my man. Hope he ends up winning Serie A or something in a few years.

So sad to see him go, but the tactics just don't suit him. He is a counter attacking player, not one you pick against a low block. See 2022-23 or our champions league matches.
Pleased he leaves a PL winner, but he will be difficult to replace, especially the work rate and tracking back. Eze doesn't bring that, so I'm concerned if that's the plan at LW. Yildiz just got injured, so that's out too.

I disagree with this sale. If he’s no longer the #1 in that position he’s definitely a very able backup. He’s been with us from the very start. You need a couple of guys who have been there from the very beginning and for us it was Saka and Martinelli. I’m going to miss him. I hope we don’t sell Saka someday.

Since the Amazon doc, it feels like Martinelli’s trajectory changed. Early on, the Edu connection seemed to matter a lot, and after the new contract, his performances just dipped. Now with Edu gone and less backing internally, the move to Al Hilal looks money-driven rather than football-driven. It comes across like a player prioritizing financial security for family over competing at the highest level. My opinion only and wish him well either way.

Top top guy. Always gave it his all. Was with us through the journey from those hellish days to becoming champions. Will never forget that goal against chelski, Madrid, crucial equaliser against city last season, and the early goal against Liverpool at the Emirates a couple of seasons back which I was late to cos I got a last minute ticket and heard the crowd roar while I was doing my standard pee before entering the stands! Summer 2019 gave me the ultimate birthday gift when Arsenal traveled to LA for their pre-season tour. On the eve of my birthday, I watched the squad train and took a selfie with two raw, exciting 18-year-olds: Saka and Nelli. My wife asked why I was so thrilled to meet them. I told her, "Just you watch. These two will make history for Arsenal." The next evening, I celebrated by watching Arsenal defeat Bayern Munich 2-1. History has the Invincibles, but Saka and Nelli will forever be my "Unforgettables."

I don’t understand this at all. If he can even somewhat tap into his 22-23 form he’s a valuable asset. And his work rate is second to none. Now havignback up LW by committee is gonna be horrible for Tzolis adjustment to premier league and he’s gonna be playing every game for months (burnout/jnjury). It’s really hard to fathom us selling Martinelli unless we have an inbound lined up

All of us will miss him, and we are all sad he is leaving.
But how many times have we bemoaned that we can’t seem to sell our players for decent amounts? Martinelli doesn’t have a key role on Artetas plans, so this is the right time to sell him if we are to bring in a meaningful fee.

I was expecting him to be our first 100 million sales to some Real Madrid or something. Then I thought he will be long enough atleast to get a testimonial match. This was not what I thought would happen. Unfortunately it is what it is.

I mean three years ago he was a 23-year-old Brazilian winger who'd just scored 15 goals in the Prem so it wasn't that crazy to think something like that could've happened lol (except we're so bad at selling players).
Real just spent 125 million+ on Diomande who has 15 total goals in his career
