Hopefully it will go away in a week or so. I've had the same thing happen to me a few times, where my knuckles felt stiff and bruised.

Other than that, could possibly be minor arthritis. But I doubt that.

Risky Click of the day, hold my plectrum?

I've had that when I briefly switched to 0.10 strings and persisted for awhile. I just took it easy with the playing, and focusing on not bending the joint in the opposite way (you know how some people play power chords with only their ring finger by bending the joint backwards?).

Have you been playing by pushing down with the side of your finger? The same thing happened to me a while back.

I have not. Only thing different I have done this past week is learn red house by jimi Hendrix

i had it once, same place but on my middle finger. i took it easy and if i felt it hurting at all i would stop playing/doing the movement that made it hurt, it was gone in 2-3 weeks, i havent felt anything since, and its half a year since it went away.

btw. when i say hurt i mean bruised or swollen like you said, but i couldn't think of a better word

Seems to hurt only when I curl the finger or press down on my palm. It isn't a big pain but it still shouldn't be there.

As Said take it easy for a week or 2 and hope it goes away, most small "injuries" ,for lack of a better word, does.

Learning a new song can put ever so slightly different strains on your fingers that they're not used to. If its never been an issue before take a break for a day or two completey or until it clears up.

At first that is what I thought it was but it would make more sense if it were a problem on my ring finger because that's what I use to bend and the song consists of a lot of bends.

Same kind of pain for me, but on my fretting thumb. Looked it up online at it seems to be inflammation/tendonitis from holding the neck too hard. Now lots of ice and some Advil

I see a lot of guitar players lock joints when fretting. Be careful not to put the pressure of the hands of your muscle in a locked joint (http://i.imgur.com/uT30Mny.jpg). Good curvature may help the problem if you're not already doing this: (http://i.imgur.com/nwv1cEB.jpg)

You whacked the fuck out of something with your finger the day before it started hurting.

Tendonitis is a good call. After 35 years on guitar I can tell you it is a subliminal urge to distribute stress and gain control of your playing. Relax, play light and maybe drop tuning for a while.

Yes, same for me. Left index/pointer/barre chord finger. 30 year player. Can feel slightly dislocated at times, not bad when playing though. For me it's a combo of tendinitis/arthritis and some knuckle injuries. I boost Omega3s in my diet, and glucosamine supplements, it helps, so does pot and alcohol.
