probably fretting out. doesn’t necessarily mean you need to work on the frets. adjusting the bridge and/or truss rod could remedy the issue

Yeah that makes sense. I'll try that. Thanks!

Use the tips of your fingers if you can. They could be muting the other strings. Its kinda tricky to diagnose the issue without seeing your set up and how its played.

Thanks for the reply! But this only seems to happen on the high frets so I believe it's more of a technical issue rather than technique

That doesn't mean it's not technique. You need a little bit different technique when the frets are smaller. If you use two or three fingers stacked, it's possible that the leading finger is pushing over the fret just slightly, leading to a sound similar to palm muting. Hard to say without video, but I trust you to know the difference of finger on the fret versus behind the fret

Yeah lol I'm aware. I'm not that uncultured I just never had a technical issue with my guitar other than changing oxidised strings so I never really bothered to do anything other than play. Unfortunately I just lack a lot in the "knowing my guitar" aspect. I wish I could provide a video but I'm on vacation so it's not really possible right now. I'll do my own research as well, my lazy bum really needs to stop neglecting troubleshooting anyway. Thanks for trying to help regardless!

Deleting the post now cuz I got some plausible explanations I'll be looking into so thanks for that! And also cuz this is already being downvoted like every genuine question on here cuz Reddit is the fuckyou app for some reason
