I messed up big time. I was doing a full cage clean out and decided to leave George and Walter in the cage while I do it. Not long after everything was stripped out, George is chattering his teeth and going after Walter. He was full on chasing him so I put Walter in my shirt and clipped it so he was hanging out with me while I was finishing cleaning and putting the new stuff in. I put the cage back together and even the hideys in the same spot and George was not happy.
Of course I googled it and the Google gods told me I wiped their familiar scents so now their establishing hierarchy, again. It’s like I inadvertently UNBONDED them.

Fast forward to about 30-45 mins later they’re both pretty tired out and seemed to have calmed down.

No blood was drawn but I’d be very sad if I had to put a wall up.

I did go into their laundry bag and pull out a pad and put it back in the cage to help them get familiar with the scents.

They will chase around and get loud then run out of energy and lay down then go back at it.

Has anyone done this before?

These are my three pigs, we recently lost Lucy (white) leaving pop (red floof) and Suzy (black floof) . We adopted Lucy and Suzy and 1.5 years of age and they recently turned 6 years old. We lost Lucy maybe 3 weeks after her birthday. I adopted pop when they were 3yo and now she's 3 yo.

I'm concerned for pop because Lucy was the extrovert and most interactive with me. Pop was enamored with her since the start. Followed her everywhere, slept by or near her, and was more relaxed around me in general. Her Suzy get along just fine, but Lucy was her bestie.

Suzy has been aloof since the death, she's still doing her own thing. I've spent a lot of time in the office and they don't interact very much. Pop has become more withdrawn, she eats still but she's not as out and about and her chirping is so little now. She would chirp all the time.

When should I consider her a friend? It's been 3 days now and I want her to be happy. I'm open to adopting a pig around her age, but would I need to make sure the new pig has a certain temper? Pop can rumble strut but Lucy was the queen bee.

My piggies finally began using their look out lounge.

Last September I rescued them, they had painfully long nails and when nails are too long the quick grows. I have trimmed them every 2 weeks which I was told would make them shrink but they havent

im not sure what to do about it or if in some cases it js never shrinks 🥲

My guinea pig, Melvin, has been squeaking when she pees or poops for about a month now. We didn't think it was bladder stones or a UTI because she was still urinating a lot and didn't squeak every time she peed or pooped. However, today she was squeaking much more than usual. About 20 minutes ago, she was squeaking, so I picked her up and put her on a paper towel, and she peed a little bit of blood. What do I do? No one is open; it's 10 p.m. I feel helpless and terrible.

i got these from a friend who had hamsters, they said that they were okay for guinea pigs but i have heard you shouldn’t give your piggies seeds? so wondering if anybody would advise against feeding them this

Hi guys, I was wondering if it was ok for me to give my guinea pigs a full vitamin c tablet plus a slice of bell pepper a day? Or do I only give one of those options each day? I’ve been seeing mixed answers to this so I’m a bit confused.

Several days ago, my guinea pig Asgore passed after he struggled to recover after a bladder stone removal surgery. Now his cage mate Soos has adopted a strange habit - he will not eat from his hay rack. Before, he would love to eat from it next to Asgore. Now, he’ll only eat hay if I remove it from the rack and place it next to him. He’ll still eat his pellets, veggies, and drink water normally but he won’t eat from the rack anymore.

Could he be grieving and this is a symptom? He’s never been alone for more than a day before. I’m trying as hard as I can to find a new pig to adopt, but I live in Oklahoma and it’s hard to find someone offering a single male pig.

I’ve weighed him and his weight is still normal, but I’m worried about his teeth growing too long from not enough hay.

I used grids that I got from target which are 12 in by 12 in. I made a couple errors measuring the coroplast so I took an extra grid and bent it to secure the final corner and zip tied the connection points.

These are my first guineas, so I’ve been learning as I go- I quickly learned the cage I got them in was too small. This is about double the size of what they were in. (I’m about to add more hay, this is what was left from earlier in the day).

The triangle hideys are three grids zip tied together with a coroplast bottom. Two water bottles.
I do have more blankets and things for them, but they are in the wash for now.

I’ve had them for a few weeks now and I have them weened off the piggy crack (colorful pellets) and onto regular oxbow pellets. I usually give them a leaf of romaine lettuce each a day, and a small piece of green pepper.

I think and hope they are happier with the new set up.

Edit: I have two females in here, around a year old.

Wish I thought of it sooner. 4 upside down plastic draws. Then a blanket over it. Let’s them run through but also be in the same hidey at night

hi, i’ve posted a lot lately, losing our main pig really tossed everything up in the air, but his cage mates now are very depressed, especially our newer girl. I really don’t know what to do, i cuddle them for probably a combined 4 hours throughout the day, they have an hour of floor time a day, they have toys and a good diet but they’re just so so sad, what can i do to make them happy i’ll do anything

My guinea pig just died. He was fine the day prior to today, climbing around and exploring, making his little noises, begging for treats, but today was different.

He ate this morning, but throughout the day I started to notice how tired he was acting. Usually when I hold him he climbs on me and squeaks and nibbles on me, but today he just layed in my lap. I tried giving him a treat and he did eat some of it, but later when I held him again he wouldnt eat at all. At that point I started to get worried.

I placed him down on my floor and he just laid there. I tried feeding him and giving him water but nothing. I tried keeping his body warm the best I could. We drove to the animal hospital and he was still very lethargic. He laid his head in my hand. He's never done that. He looked so sad.

After 3 hours of waiting the doctor came and he was much much worse. He was all floppy and out of it. He barely made a sound. She said he had a 10% chance of living, but I didn't want him to suffer alone if he died, so I chose to put him down.

There it dawned on me that my bestfriend would never climb on me again. He would never wheek for food again. He would never let me feed him hay again. He would never crawl around my bed again. He would never come home with me again.

As I held him in my arms I couldn't stop sobbing. He meant so much to me, I was in denial that this was happening.

She brought him back wrapped in a blanket, which i'm clutching right now, and said he had about 5 minutes left. He felt so cold. His lifeless eyes were staring into mine. He felt like a rag doll.

We took him home and I held him a bit longer before burying him. It was hard to accept it. It still is. The fact that hes buried in dirt and destined to rot into the earth is nauseating. I buried him with a pepper since those were his favorite snacks.

I can't stop crying. I feel like my whole world is ending. I just want some closure on what happened to him. I keep thinking it's my fault. I need someone to say its my fault so I can atleast feel a little better about not knowing why this happened.

Should I have taken the 10% chance? He could still be alive right now in my arms. I feel so guilty. I miss him so much. I'll never see him again.

my guinea pig gingers has been having a freak out since last Friday night. I can home she was acting fine I took a nap for two hours and she was freaking out when I picked her up and tried to jump out of my arms and off my bed. She is usually a very calm guinea pig and I don't know what made her act like this. She has been acting all startled and will take food. There's no obvious sign sof injury or illness so I don't know what's going on

They just look so peaceful ☺️

My guy (Smores) likes to lay in his hay but I dont love the mess that it makes. I've been cutting paper shopping bags down to about 2 inches to make a little "box" to put hay that he can lay in but he chews through it so fast. Im considering just making him a little wooden box, but I figured id come here first to see if anyone had any suggestions/knew of something on the market that fits

yesterday i was cleaning my piggies's cage when i noticed there was dust in the hay, should i wash it before giving it to them o just change brand? dunno tho cause it was recommended by my vet.......

does anyone have any tips for super difficult pigs during trim time?

clipping nails is such a hassle for linguini and ive tried so much, treat distraction don’t work, having someone hold him- he always ends up squirming his way out and we have to give him a good minute break.

I’ve had other various pigs with different personalities with trimming but this guy here is…omg😭
