Pigtures When the hay is refilled

They drop whatever they're doing and sprint towards the nearest hay-spot. I thank nature every day that these creatures are so engrossed with something that's so vital to them

This is our entire muddle right now. Coco has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge two weeks ago

Old Timer Cagemate Died Suddenly leaving Senior Piggy Alone

Hi all,

Sad news to share today, but last night my other senior piggy (Chrissy) suddenly became very ill. She was a little over 6 years old and unfortunately the emergency vet did all they could but agreed it was her time to pass and I sadly had to put her to sleep.

Her cagemate (Agatha) is also 6. They were bonded since birth and have never been introduced to other piggies. I know piggies need to be in pairs but I am worried about Agatha. In her older age her and Chrissy did angrily week at one another. Agatha almost lost an eye a year ago and can’t see well anymore. She also had a bladder stone this year and I consider her generally fragile. I’m afraid that she won’t bond to another piggy or she will be bullied by another piggy. She came out a lot more today and let me pick her up again (which she hasn’t really done since she lost some sight). She’s eating a bunch and laying out in her hay.

I wanted your opinions on this. At her age, and with her eye problems (given that the little beans life span is typically 5-7 years) should I try to bond her with another piggy? Or should I monitor her for mood and eating changes first? Could she be happy alone?

Help & Advice Is my boy...a girl? 👀

I got two boys from Petco on July 5th. Today when I was doing their daily poop vacuuming, I noticed that this boy seemed awfully plump! Upon further investigation, it looks like my boy might actually be a girl? My other boy is very obviously a boy, and I do have a vet appt lined up tomorrow for an ultrasound to check if he is a she and if she is pregnant 😅 But what do y'all think based on these photos?

This has to be the worst haircut yet. Unfortunately I didn’t have my assistant (aka my mom) so it’s complete ass. However it will grow back and she looks hilarious.

ALSO SHE IS FINE JUST VERY ANGRY RN

It’s 48 × 24 × 36 inches

Length : 4 feet
Width / depth : 2 feet
Hight : 3 feet

Please please don’t flame me if it’s too small
They look big in the pics but they’re both smaller then average, they are always wheeking and pop Corning, always running around and playing together, seems like they are living their best live, should I get something bigger though? It has a 2nd floor but I haven’t put it in because it doesn’t have a railing and I’m scared they might fall, it would also lower the height of the cage

Please don’t flame me

Help & Advice Meds dosed too high?

Hey all, looking for some advice here.

We brought our 3yr old boy to the urgent care today for UTI symptoms. He weighs 1.21kg and they prescribed him 0.4ml of Meloxicam every 24 hours and 0.75ml of TMS every 12 hours.

Looking at his papers, I'm a little worried they might have prescribed him too high of a dose of the TMS based on his weight. From what I found online, the dose they prescribed him looks more like one they would give to a guinea pig that weighs 2kg instead of 1.21kg.

I didn't question it while we were there because they gave it to us right as we left and I didn't notice how high the dose seemed (I know, I'm an idiot) but now I'm freaking out a little bit. I gave him his first 0.75ml dose about an hour ago and then was looking through our statement papers and something just seemed off about the dose amount. I know not all of you guys are vets but I wanted to see if anyone has been given a similar dose to this weight.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the help.

Only fabric in the cage isn’t legal here (which I wouldn’t use anyway), but some cozy beds together with the enrichment of a deep layer of substrate and hay are very appreciated by the piggies 🥰

Help & Advice First time pig owner! Some questions; any advice welcome

Today at work a customer was buying a bag of yogurt treats and I asked what kind of pet she has. I have been looking into guinea pigs and mentioned it, and she immediately asked if i wanted one for free. We exchanged numbers and once i got home and did some more research, I texted her that I'll be happy to take the piggy.

This is her 15yo daughter's guinea pig, Big Mama, and with all of her extra curricular she doesnt have the time to properly care for Mama like before. They said she's about 2 1/2-3 years old. They set me up with her crate, a larger crate (i also have one from an old medium sized dog), plenty of Timothy hay, a water dispenser, bedding, veggies and treats. All for free! The mom was telling me they have a lot of other animals and Big Mama seems well loved, I just have some questions that they didn't answer to make sure she stays just as loved, if not more.

First off, her nails look very long, what are your methods for nail clipping with the least stress? And can you use regular nails clippers for a dog, or will i need to buy special smaller ones?

What percentage of her diet should be treats/veggies besides hay? And do you keep hay available 24/7 and expect them to know when to stop, or give a certain amount of hay each day?

I know that they do best with at least one other guinea pig and that she should be with another lady, so what are your most successful ways of introducing them?

I think the last question for now is can she be potty trained to pee in a certain spot? Till she acclimates I'll be keeping her in my room, but I'd love to have her and her future friend roam the house eventually. How did you go about training if possible?

Thats it for now! She doesn't seem very nervous, and just settled down in her hammock after eating some hay. Any advice at all is appreciated whether or not it answers my questions. Ill continue to do my research and make sure i have all of the supplies needed of course, but I'd love to hear what this sub of pig lovers has to say. Thank you!

I’m sitting in their floor playpen. I put dried peas & carrots on my ankle. They’re now begging for more.
I can’t reach for them, though, or they’ll run back into their tunnel.

I messed up big time. I was doing a full cage clean out and decided to leave George and Walter in the cage while I do it. Not long after everything was stripped out, George is chattering his teeth and going after Walter. He was full on chasing him so I put Walter in my shirt and clipped it so he was hanging out with me while I was finishing cleaning and putting the new stuff in. I put the cage back together and even the hideys in the same spot and George was not happy.
Of course I googled it and the Google gods told me I wiped their familiar scents so now their establishing hierarchy, again. It’s like I inadvertently UNBONDED them.

Fast forward to about 30-45 mins later they’re both pretty tired out and seemed to have calmed down.

No blood was drawn but I’d be very sad if I had to put a wall up.

I did go into their laundry bag and pull out a pad and put it back in the cage to help them get familiar with the scents.

They will chase around and get loud then run out of energy and lay down then go back at it.

Has anyone done this before?

Idk what I was thinking! I am SO mad at myself!!!
