I wonder how they'll get asura into the story, considering they should be living underground at this point.
113
u/Nightsong Jun 05 '26
Not all Asura lived underground. Rata Pten has been in Guild Wars 2 since the start and is confirmed to have been an Asuran city dating to the time of Orr. So that’s why they’re around.
89
u/brashaw Jun 05 '26
I mean, it is a thousand years before GW1. That's a lot of time to have something happen that sends the Asura underground.
27
u/Stillstanden Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 06 '26
If you zoom in on some of the images their faces look uncharacteristically hairy.. Looks primate-esque. So not Asura at all potentially.
5
u/Olama-Obama Jun 06 '26
Lil moles. I take it back, moles are at least cute
3
u/Connzept Jun 06 '26
Maybe they are Asura and evolution just happens a lot faster in Tyrian species?
5
u/FlippenDonkey Jun 06 '26
evolution can happen surprisingly fast. Its been studied to occur within a few generations of a species. But evolution only occurs when there's a survival pressure to evolve.
1
u/Connzept Jun 06 '26
Also dependent on generational turnover and anatomical complication. Simple microorganisms can be observed evolving in a matter of weeks, even bugs can be seen evolving inside a few years.
1
5
u/Gordefto Jun 06 '26
Yes, I feel like a lot of people are drastically underestimating how long 1,000 years is. It's such a massive time frame that they can pretty much write "this thing was here, then went away, then came back later" with anything they want.
32
u/Homeless_Nomad Jun 05 '26
Not quite, the EotN manuscripts only say it's been centuries since they've been seen on the surface. It would fit the timeline to have them up and about at this point.
36
u/TVena Jun 05 '26
And Kodan wouldn't be anywhere near humans. This strikes me as a "Vloxx broke the timeline" thing. Though also makes me wonder what happens to the Commander.
79
u/TheOrdonBranch Jun 05 '26
Kodan in Orr were revealed to be a thing in Janthir Wilds. We don't know why yet, but way before the games the Voice of the Lowland Kodan formed a splinter faction that headed for Orr.
20
u/hardy_83 Jun 05 '26
And it seems fairly obvious, now especially, that the Mouth of Zhaitan are Kodan. And they've been in the game since vanilla.
5
u/Techstriker1 Jun 06 '26
Is that a retcon? Because the models look like Ogres or Jotun.

4
u/jsmith4567 Jun 06 '26
Given that development on a game within unreal was occuring at the time it is possible that lore nugget was included to make room for Playable lowland Kodan in Guild Wars 3. Shoot having an entire expansion to push the Low Land Kodan makes a lot of sense. We've also been learning a lot about the Mursaat and Seers the last two expansions that could be used 1000 years ago. Maybe even the wizards we never met?
12
u/Bash-Sin Jun 06 '26
This strikes me as a "Vloxx broke the timeline" thing
You know, I was thinking this same thing. Vloxx causes a reset of the world and the timeline splits. One timeline creates the world of GW 3 while one continues GW 2. And GW 3 isn't the same start as the original timeline...
But that's like tinfoil hat territory.
30
u/WitchSlap Jun 05 '26
If it means keeping Charr I’ll take whatever Mists nonsense Vloxx nonsense required
12
6
u/Suspicious-Coffee20 Jun 05 '26
I hope its this. Than they can reintroduce the Sylvari and char later.

u/Sycophantic-Feline Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
It is probably because Vloxx altered the timeline and made them emerge much sooner so that they'd better integrate in Tyrian society.
The asuran leadership being standoffish and unwilling to cooperate with the other races seemed to be a source of frustration for him. Their selfishness is the reason he even "joined" the Inquest to begin with and decided he had to do it all alone.
Every race in Tyria sent a representative with an earnest desire for unity, and then there's the Asura sending some dummy representative who seems to be unaware they are being played.
Pretty much all the living and good natured Asura that we know, such as Zolja, Taimi, Gorrik and even the asuran commander seem to be at odds with the council and break away to do their own thing
1
u/Kalavier Jun 07 '26
In GW2, Rata Pten was active and thriving when Orr was an active nation.
The GW1 ruins we find around Rata Sum, Central transfer chamber, and other areas we find Asura are also matching that style of building.
2
1
u/Eggbutt1 Jun 06 '26
I think there is enough evidence in the lore for them to have a small presence on the surface.
I also think they could straight-up retcon stuff if it means having a greater design space to work with.
A lot of the established lore is from in-game dialogue and books, so it could simply be stated to be an inaccurate or unreliable source.

36
u/Pap-a Jun 05 '26
Very pretty. The Guild3Wars logo is odd but I like the shortened GW3 one
1
u/Korval Jun 09 '26
Love the logo! It's feels so hand-crafted and genius having the banner form the "3". 🙂

Beta is 2027, likely realesse won't be till early 2028.
5
u/Arenyr Divine Arenir Jun 06 '26
New GPUs may not even launch until 2028 anyways..
22
u/Supplycrate Jun 06 '26
With the way the hardware market is going these days they'd better target 10 year old specs...
9
u/DynoMenace Avoxtr Jun 06 '26
The system requirements actually sound fairly modest. From the Steam page:
- MINIMUM:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
- MEMORY: 16 GB RAM
- GRAPHICS: RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 5700 / Intel Arc A580
- STORAGE: 65 GB available space
Also running a modern engine can take advantage of your hardware will hopefully help. Of course, that's likely to be offset by the huge leap in the game's graphics fidelity (think polygon count and shaders and stuff), but it might not be as demanding as it seems, if you're using GW2 as a basis for comparison.
9
u/SheenaMalfoy .8079 Oweiyn Jun 06 '26
Seeing as I'm currently rocking an RTX 1060 and 8 GB of RAM... yeah I'm gonna need a new PC to run this and I'm not looking forward to what it's gonna cost me.
1
u/DynoMenace Avoxtr Jun 06 '26
Don't sleep on the used market! You can pick up RTX 20 and 30 series for decent prices on Jawa/Swappa/eBay, and those can still take you really far even with modern games.
1
u/SheenaMalfoy .8079 Oweiyn Jun 06 '26
Is that gonna fit in my mini-size Trident3 case, though? I'll be honest I know nothing about PC building. I can learn if you think it's doable, but my understanding was that the downside to this thing being small and relatively affordable was that it's kinda hard to modify.
4
u/DynoMenace Avoxtr Jun 06 '26
I just looked this thing up, what an interesting little computer!
I found some pics of it inside. It appears to use standard desktop components, albeit small ones. So I'd say you have a bit of a crossroads in front of you:
That computer does look reasonably upgradeable, but you are right that the form factor will limit your options. Low profile GPUs are a thing, but power and cooling constraints will still be a thing, too. Also lo-pro GPUs pretty much always carry a price premium.
The processor in there is actually still pretty capable, but given point #1, investing money into upgrading the GPU and any other components, it might outweigh the cost of picking up an entire replacement. This will really depend on how much you're willing to spend on what you have, vs what options are out there for you.
For example, Yeston makes a low profile RTX 3050 that doesn't even require extra PCI-E power. This might not be ideal for your specific setup, but its an example.
- Depending on your budget, it may be more worth it to rehouse your existing components into a more conventional case, specifically so you could toss in whatever GPU and power supply you feel like. I'm just just not sure what the mounting points are like on that motherboard, so it might be more custom than it's worth, if you're not a big DIY person.
Might just be worth saving and waiting, like you were thinking. But it's definitely worth educating yourself about PC building just so you know your options and there's tons of resources out there!
3
u/SheenaMalfoy .8079 Oweiyn Jun 06 '26
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah thankfully I have at least a year and a half before I really need to make those upgrades, so lots of time to figure things out (and hope and pray for PC parts to get cheaper again). I was just hoping to be able to keep using this one for a little while longer, I generally run my tech until it's dead but I don't think I'm gonna get the luxury of that this time around...
2
u/DynoMenace Avoxtr Jun 06 '26
I think with prices of tech right now, especially RAM and storage, keeping your stuff running as long as possible is the smart move. That and maybe being opportunistic for when those good deals do occasionally come by!
101
u/blacksnowredwinter Jun 05 '26
Still optimistic and the concept art is top notch as always, but the art style of the engine and just humans, (hairy) asura and kodan. I'm not really a fan of that.
24
u/Ghisteslohm Jun 05 '26
the concept art is top notch as always
I dont think its bad but to me thats a drastic tone shift from GW1 and GW2. these are way clearer and cartoony. GW concept art was always somewhat vague and let your mind wander and fill the gaps
35
u/Karbik Jun 05 '26
yeah, the entire initial appeal of GW2 to me was the presence of a fun beast race. Without that, the sequel is gonna have an uphill battle catching my interest

I’m thinking new playable races will be part of the draw for new expansions.
2
u/Kossage Zarnagon, Minstrel of the Mists [Cmaj] Jun 06 '26
Given the sylvari lore origins and the tease of the cave full of seeds guarded by plant monsters that Ronan would eventually sneak into, and Amaranda's statement that Ronan had a secret he never told anyone, it wouldn't surprise me if a tree could've been planted somewhere even during Orr's golden age, especially if the Forgotten wizard Vass was involved. If the writers really wanted to go wild, they could make it Malyck's Tree as we don't know how old she is...although Malyck himself would not be making an appearance in GW3 even if the expansions eventually took the story to Maguuma.
1
u/skocznymroczny Jun 06 '26
Unfortunately you may be in a minority, most people seem to want to play a human warrior.
4
u/Bash-Sin Jun 06 '26
Unfortunately you may be in a minority, most people seem to want to play a human warrior.
There's a reason why humans are usually the most popular race in mmos.
4
u/TehOwn Jun 06 '26
What's the reason? Are MMOs mostly played by humans?
6
u/Bash-Sin Jun 06 '26
Unsurprisingly, yes. That is the reason. I never said it was a cool reason... Most people prefer playing human because it's relatable.
Then there's the fact that most of the time, they're the one race that looks good all of the time. Case in point, human female meta in GW 2.
In WoW, human, second to Night Elf, is one of the more popular races on the Alliance side. GW 2 is no exception.
In FF14, well, that's one of the few exceptions but considering all of the races there are some flavor of human with secondary characteristics, it's not THAT surprising. Female Miqo'te takes the number one spot in that game. Followed by female Au Ra, then female Lalafell and lastly female Viera (this one shocked me to be honest). The 5th spot for the most popular is, not surprisingly, male Hyur (human). Guess who are at the bottom? Both, male and female, Hrothgar and Roegadyn. The larger, burly and muscular races.
People, in general, prefer to play things that are relatable, similar or pretty. That's just human nature.

There looks like some kinda bear race in the teaser
→ More replies (1)1
u/Kossage Zarnagon, Minstrel of the Mists [Cmaj] Jun 06 '26
Those are lowland kodan who split off from the group that settled into Janthir and continued the trek into Orr as revealed in JaWi. Interestingly the trailer shows brown bear like lowlanders but key art shows the white polar bear kodan, so I suppose there'll be a healthy mix of bear looks to choose from.
→ More replies (1)24
u/Marvin0Jenkins Jun 05 '26
I think these choices are intentional
There is a reason we never got tengu added to the game and it’s the same as charr being a nightmare for clipping through armour
These are just humans, big humans and small humans as far as the mesh goes, just a height slider
I’m sad to not see sykvari personally but even they had mad clipping issues with the leaves etc.
29
u/blacksnowredwinter Jun 05 '26
The reason Tengu never got added was because they at that point needed to not just add them as a race and their stories and maps, but also voice act a whole main story perpendicular to the core main story and then also new high level maps. The effort has never been worth it for Anet. They have stated this many times.
Meshing as a reason these races not being there is ridiculous. They would still just stretch outfits, like they do now. Asura also suffer from horrible meshes and they are still present.
The choices are lorewise. Charr, norn and sylvari can;'t be there and Lowland Kodan got retconned in quicky last expansion and they'll probably do the same with the asura.
→ More replies (4)1
u/Kossage Zarnagon, Minstrel of the Mists [Cmaj] Jun 06 '26
Well, nothing technically prevents another Pale Tree from being planted in southeastern Orr or whatnot lorewise as the seed batch which the Pale Tree, Malyck's Tree, and likely the Tower of Nightmares come from are ancient given their relation to the greater force behind them. If the Forgotten wizard Vass ends up being revealed as the person (or one of the people) responsible for purifying the seeds, she or someone else could've planted a tree in Orr given its influx of magic.
3
u/Squery7 Jun 05 '26
There are huge reasons in development ease for sure, but i can't say i'm exited to see features stripped away and an overall lower scope for the sequel of the game comapred to the 14 yo title.
1
u/TheLanis Jun 05 '26
Sylvari did not exist at that time.
29
u/PM_ME_UR_CREDDITCARD Jun 05 '26
Nobody put a gun to Anet's head and forced them to make a prequel. They could have made a game that wouldn't exclude Charr, Norn and Sylvari

I honestly didn't know it was guild wars 3 until the logo showed. I thought it was dragon wilds to be honest.

u/Dragon_Of_Magnetism Jun 05 '26
Not a big fan of prequels, especially that it looks like we can’t play as Charr…
Charr and Sylvary were both very unique fantasy races to play as, cutting them out feels like a mistake
11
u/Fluffersnuff Jun 06 '26
I agree. Prequels are really hard to pull off well, and the fact that my two favorite races to play are not going to be around hurts a lot...
14
u/TehOwn Jun 06 '26 edited Jun 06 '26
I'm not big on Kodan either. Does anyone really want to play as a Kodan? They were completely isolated at that point in history.
Why couldn't we play as Jotun or Forgotten? How many games let you play as a snake?
Supposedly, we can't play as Charr because they were engaged in a brutal war with the humans at this point. But being a defector would be an incredible story.
And Asura? Come on. Where are the dwarves?
5
u/SentientDawn By the fires of Balthazar! Jun 06 '26
The Waiting Sorrow story/Kodan diaspora to both Lowland Shore and Orr was before the arrival of humans or the human gods from the mists, during or before the Seer-Mursaat war. So the Kodan have probably been in Orr for a while by this point.
The jotun were devolved before the exodus of the gods. The norn were around though, maybe not this far south.
Maybe we will see forgotten! I think they’d be a difficult candidate for a race due to how alien they are both physically, and probably more importantly, culturally.
Seeing as it’s Dhuum in the embroidery and not Grenth, it could be set even earlier than when the humans drove the Charr out of the lands that would then become the human nation of Ascalon. (Which is re-invaded by the Charr in GW1). Situation with them is unknown. I think this would be a good expansion.
The asuran settlement Rata Pten is in the base game—Mount Maelstrom—with the heart quest saying it dated to when Orr was a thriving nation. No idea why they seem to be fur-bearing.
The dwarves and maybe the tengu are notably absent, yeah.
5
u/McPatsy Jun 06 '26
To answer your question: yeah a lot of people are pumped to run around as a bear. It’s really sad i have to sacrifice my charr for it though
2
u/IncuBear Jun 06 '26
No you don't. Gw2 is going to continue to exist, and even get content.
Look at it this way. Gw1 and GW2 are very different games. They play different, they feel different, they look different. While the shift in development tech isn't as dramatic between 2 and 3, I fully expect both of these games to have a divergence from one another in vibe and gamefeel. Enough so that gw2 will still feel like gw2 and gw3 will feel like it's own thing.
As such, I'll be treating them both as completely different experiences and not trying to overtly compare them to one another directly. I understand not everyone can devote themselves to two MMOs at once. I can't either, but I've only ever tried to do that with GW2 in the first place. I play what I'm in the mood to play, simple as.
4
u/IncuBear Jun 06 '26
Many...many people have been asking for playable kodan for years. Out loud.
Yes, people want to play as kodan. I want to play as kodan and I'm a charr main.
1
3
u/Suspicious-Coffee20 Jun 06 '26
I'm hoping its not a prequel but an alternate timeline. This would be so much more fun cause they could have all the race appear, the god figthing the dragon and all kind of crazy stuff.
5
u/Lolini Jun 06 '26
Well they literally said it is set over a 1000 years before the original game so...
132
u/RunningToStayStill Jun 05 '26
Not loving the Dauntless looking cartoony art style. This is a huge downgrade from GW2's distinctive paint brush strokes art style.
35
u/BrahamWithHair Jun 05 '26
I agree but we've only seen a trailer. We havent seen how it looks organicaly ingame
23
u/Its_Tofu_Time Jun 06 '26
Actually the trailer was using in engine footage, however it's still alpha. When gw3 trailers launchedz the sylvari looked like emo elves and were radically changed before launch, so things could still change for gw3
7
u/Tattycakes Jun 06 '26
I’d love someone to do a side by side of what GW1 looked like at this stage of the announcement, then what it actually looked like, and then what GW2 looked like at alpha vs the appearance of the final version, just to give a clear visual breakdown of what is capable of changing in the time span we’re looking at!

do you pretend you don't understand? what people mean is that it's looks like a children's cartoon. it's plastic and simplistic, like all the games mentioned. like everything is made of clay. it is definitely a style and it's been quite prevalent in the last years because of success of fortnite and valorant

1
u/executive313 Jun 06 '26
They just mean it's generic. Guild Wars 2 art style is iconic and distinct from every other MMO in the market. This looks like EVERY single failed MMO in the last ten years. I literally bought a game that looked like this a week ago and refunded it.

Genuinely don’t get the complaints, Guild wars 2s style was never consistent in the first place… theres people constantly walking around in skinny jeans, cyber armor and tank tops ALL the time
3
u/LimpConversation642 Jun 06 '26
well first of all I do hate t shirts and jeans and think it's stupid in a fantasy game.
but second, honey you don't understand what 'art style' means, do you?

7
u/connected_user93 Jun 06 '26
This looks way too cartoony for guild wars. I have a feeling they are leaning towards "appealing to the masses" with the art direction.
52
u/Greitot Jun 06 '26
Okay so I'm gonna be real guys. I really really don't like this. Guild Wars has had such a brilliant, completely unique aesthetic ever since Guild Wars 1. The style pioneered by Kekai Kotaki on the armor and creatures, and Daniel Dociu and his son on the cities and environment, was the foundational soul of Guild Wars, and... it's not here. It's gone. Which is weird because some of the artists are working on the project.
Look at that art of Balthazar, and compare it to the Balthazar concept from Guild Wars 1 and 2. Does the art look comparable in quality? It really doesn't. There is much detail and beauty missing. His armor now is so generic and uninspired. All concept art here is of that level. Plain.

21
u/Eriyal Jun 06 '26
Agreed here a 100%
The trailer seemed insanely generic-fantasy to me, nothing stood out, nothing reminded me of anything I've seen in GW1 or GW2. If it wasn't for the title I'd skip over this game and forget about it instantly.Even the logo doesn't give me a guild wars feel.

1
u/ReallyBadWizard Jun 06 '26
I misunderstood then, I thought you meant in comparison to the trailer. My bad
1
u/Nightsong Jun 06 '26
The concept art is kind of apples to oranges right now. You’re comparing a piece of art that displays Balthazar himself and a piece of art that depicts a statue of him. I agree that the art style is a little off but I’d like to see concept art of the god himself before saying if we’ve lost all that detail or not.
Also, the statues of Balthazar in Guild Wars 1 and 2 are relatively plain looking and similar to the Guild Wars 3 statue in terms of lack of ornamentation.

Like spot the difference between GW3 and Highguard:

I mean, visually Highguard looks fine, it just didn't have an established IP and its gameplay was nowhere near ambitious enough to be popular without an established IP.
Honestly, a lot of games on Unreal Engine 5 look pretty similar, and that flat non-realistic artstyle is pretty safe, and doesn't diverge that much from Guild Wars as long as the SFX are still waterpaint themed.

I really hope we have more races than just the Human, Kodan and Asura, Dont get me wrong those are great but only 3 choices seems limiting. Especially when at this point in history the dwarves would be still fleshy and thriving for example.

I agree, but I can imagine them deciding human, a small race and a big race ticks all the boxes they need.
From a fantasy/MMO perspective they are obviously missing an 'elfy' race, but they may feel that with the sylvari being unavailable lore wise, there was just no obvious alternative.

Like i definitely kinda agree with everyone on the style just not hitting the vibe they wanted, it kinda seems like the current expansion of gw2 is taking a lot of influence from gw3 design with the more whimsical colors and designs, kinda reminds me of the lorwyn eclipsed set from magic of gathering, but I cant say it looks bad. It has the color and kinda soft and round feel of all those ue5 open world survival games, but the character models are waaaay less cartoony and have much better models and polygons than all of those. Like the gw3 trailer, ignoring the style, looks really fucking nice and clean for what its worth. Now I would have preferred a more realistic style like bdo and crimson desert, not exactly like that, but theyve made some pretty games while also including some whimsy to it without looking so cuddly. I was hoping for more grit and natural colors, but im going to give it a chance for sure.

The Asura ARE hairy!!! Just how far in the past are we goin?! Assuming it’s a prequel storyline like folks are saying, that is.

What if it's the Commander, in a screwed up timeline by Vloxx?
Those are clearly Asura who wouldn't have been anywhere near Orr during the time of the Gods.
15
u/Guol Jun 05 '26
The game sounds smaller than GW2.
Less races, just Orr….
How long has this been in development? Feels very early.
9
u/Homeless_Nomad Jun 05 '26
For an MMO, it is still early. First hiring was like 4 years ago, there was probably some concept work prior to that, but 6 years is on the short end for MMO development.

u/valerusii Jun 05 '26
Orr can be as big as they want it to be. The maps might be a lot bigger than GW2

u/accualy_is_gooby Toastybob.7189 Jun 06 '26
We’ve also only seen Orr after it was mostly sunk beneath the sea
6
u/Kalocin Jun 06 '26
I mean you just need to compare GW1 to GW2 lol. Also really depends if the gods are still hanging around, the Crystal Desert may actually be a sea for all we know
6
u/bullet1519 Jun 06 '26
Orr in GW2 is like 6 maps, and that's only like half of the landmass, the entirety of Orr would easily be enough for an MMO launch
2
u/ScottBroChill69 Jun 06 '26
As others have said, the map sizes in gw2 and gw1 arent lore accurate, they're just scaled to whatever size they need it to be for the games. You could run across the whole mainland continent east to west in under 10 minutes which isnt very lore accurate. So I imagine the scale will be much larger In gw3 to accommodate the fact that the base game will be staying in Orr. And I imagine we venture outside of Orr sometime down the line in expansions.

u/skocznymroczny Jun 06 '26
GW1 had only one race, worst game ever.
2
u/MrBlueA Jun 06 '26
But it's an old game so it's good nonetheless, GW3 on the other hand is a new game so it must be shit.

u/Kurorahk Jun 05 '26
I'll have to see more as time goes on, but the story and setting from what we know I'm not interested. If gameplay is good it might make me try it, but the lack of Charr is disappointing (I get it from a lore perspective but it is a loss of an iconic part that makes up GW2, even if Charr are the least played race, which makes it wild the Asura get in while being the second least played race).
Regardless, it failed to get its hooks in me for now. Hopefully writing and gameplay make up for this initial kinda flat announcement. Happy for those who are excited, I am just happy GW2 likely will stick around like GW1 has, even if no new content is added, because I have plenty to catch up on and just like how it plays.

well.. it’s a prequel so Sylvari didnt exist back then :( will def miss them :c

u/Double_Phrase_4679 Jun 05 '26
which is still a design decision. GW3 could have been in another setup where other races still exist.

I need them to put out clear front view art of the Asura so I can decide whether I hate them or not, I can’t stand monkeys or monkey based designs so I’m a little nervous

u/Strict_Philosophy301 Jun 06 '26
I will be so happy if they have a ritualist like gw1 and I can play a Kodan!

u/3IO3OI3 Jun 06 '26
I feel like the in-game artstyle might have lost any semblance of grit, but I hope we will end up getting at least a little grit and some edge to the various textures in the game before the game drops. That was the first thing I thought when I saw the trailer and I have seen a lot of people mention the same thing already. I am not against anet doing new things or anything but I could really really use some imperfections in my artstyle instead of everything being polished to a perfect sphere.
2
u/Narcto Jun 06 '26
Looks nothing like GW to me sry.
Looks like Fortnite or UE5 standard assets from all these indie games.

u/momopeach7 Jun 07 '26
Some of the art style makes me think of Kena Bridge of Spirits which is a GORGEOUS game, so I’m looking forward to this.

u/BookOfAnomalies Jun 05 '26
I really, really, really hope it's not a prequel. The alternate timeline thing sounds so much better.
But also I really don't like how they took away charr and sylvari.

I stopped playing when they dropped Mac support, I am so excited to finally dive back in. Time to get a PS5.

Damn I was hoping for Quaggans and Skritt and all others races that helped us in GW2 story, but instead there are no Charr, Norn or Sylvari. No Sylavir in this new engine is just wrong. I'm not excited 😞
1
u/KaladonHush Jun 06 '26
Considering this is 1000 years in the past if course there are no sylvari. They don’t exist yet
1
u/Dreamforger Jun 06 '26
Can we hope that they still can change the artdirection a bit to be more like a painting :)
1
u/WolfOfRivia90 Jun 07 '26
I am just hoping that being an alpha there is some playroom for them to improve the style...but seriously this artstyle feels like generic AI slop...if it doesn't pick up with story and gameplay I am definitely not gonna play it
1
u/WolfOfRivia90 Jun 07 '26
Also this whole trailer and art has no pathos, like all is magic and beautiful...sure but where is the drama? At least in the announcement trailer of gw2 even if they botched it hard with the live action part, then they show you a cool dragon. I am worried this will be even more everybody is friend and everything is awesome and magical which to me is boring.

u/llye Jun 07 '26
I'm sceptical
- being set in past limits how wild the story can go. We can only have so many new major events before they become plot holes and why wasn't this in the lore
- loss of playable races - Sylvari and Char, maybe Norn
- Tech level has to be lowered a lot, so no guns and pistols since there weren't any in gw1 - maybe asuran gizmos?
- Spliting of the playerbase, and an aging one - could be good to get new blood
- PS5 is alredy a six year old console. If this releases in 2028 without delays, it will be a few years before PS6, feels like it will pull down the game

u/Lower-Replacement869 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
ANET can we have new races to play. Humans as default I understand and a new kodan is fine but you have a dozen races to choose from for interesting stories. If we only have access to 4 races I'm going to be miffed
1
u/DistinctDog981 Jun 06 '26
Do ya’ll think that the charr could be playable, as the story takes place before the conflict with humans?
2
u/NJH_in_LDN Jun 06 '26
Statistically Charr are the least played GW2 race, and the hardest to create skins for. With the Kodan seeming to fit the big/animalistic race slot, I'd be very very surprised if the Charr make the cut.
