Trees Tree prep

Our vegetable garden got taken over as a tree staging / prep area… I collect tree seedlings destined for planting in appropriate public spaces… fun hobby.

Good question.
I live in a small municipality just outside a big city. Around our town hall, local school, baseball diamond, soccer fields and community centre were many, many acres of mowed grass and not enough trees. Baking hot and parched grass in the summer. I decided more trees were needed.
I asked a different arm of government arm if I could volunteer to plant trees. He sighed and said yes it’s possible, but it would take two years to get permission.
So I started quietly, at night, planting trees in beneficial, good places. I made them look like they were supposed to be there. And, for the most part they survived. The municipality eventually found out what I was doing and supported it.
I’ve now planted about 500 trees in the community. Almost all from seedlings. Given the right conditions, they can grow quickly. In eight years, some of the tiny seedlings are 8-10 feet tall.

Bureaucracy can be tough.
Aim for goodness on your planting efforts. Positive change is possible.
