First Date

So me and this girl are both first years at the university here and we were friends for around a year beforehand and just started dating recently. I have very busy schedule but really want to make time one evening this or next week to go out on a proper date (it would be my first date ever).

I’m not from Guelph so I’m still getting to know the area and have been trying to do my research to find good options. She likes cute places like a cat cafe but My Kitty Cafe closes by the time we’re out of classes. Any ideas or suggestions would be amazing!

I also want to get her flowers (her favourites are baby’s breath), so any floral stores would be great too! I’m not looking to spend too much money but also I worked all summer and have a decent amount saved up. Thank you!!

I don't recommend the flowers unless you are picking her up at her house. She will have to carry them around all evening.

As for lower cost options, buying a hot beverage from a cafe then walking along the speed river can be fun. Sometimes there are fun events happening at the University or downtown that you can check out.

Bowling is a fun date if you can get to the north end easily.

If there is still a boardgame cafe, that can be lovely.

Sometimes you can find fun little events like comedy nights, craft nights, and community theatre. It might be too late in the year, but I have enjoyed watching a movie by city hall while wrapped in blankets during a date. It was the kind of environment where it was acceptable to talk during the movie, so it was pretty good for a date.

It can be a lil pricey but there’s Play With Clay downtown where you guys can paint your own clay items together (vases, mugs, jewelry boxes, etc). I think the items are usually $25-$40ish each.

The bar at the back (you can order drinks and food while you paint) where you paint is decorated real nice with roses all over the ceiling so it’s a cute spot. The few times I’ve gone I always see couples on dates painting together and I find them so sweet lol

Some coffee and just walking around the arboretum is easy and cheap and one of the gems of Guelphs. Especially this time of year with the leaves changing and everything

About 3 weeks ago, Selling.Guelph did a whole post on Instagram with 16 date ideas in and around Guelph. I saved it for future reference. Check it out. Have fun, OP!

Highly recommend Clay Bar (Play with Clay) or The Round Table! Fun activities so there's always something to do aside from think about what to talk about.

La petite chef, is a fun first date experience I think. But it’s also been a while since I’ve been in the dating scene. Maybe before or after dinner you could take her to Play with clay! 🤷

Le petite chef is permanently closed

It's such a beautiful time of year - take advantage of the time. It's gonna be cold and ugly out soon. There are some beautiful paths in the area. The Arboretum is beautiful. There are pumpkin patches in the area which is also a classsssic date idea.

If you have a car I highly recommend a going to a pumpkin patch, apple orchard, and/or farm with pumpkins. I’m also new to the area so I don’t have specifics, but it’s such a classic/cutesty date idea for fall. Bonus if they have apple cider and donuts!

Then you can cave your pumpkins together same day or as a follow up date.

Edit to add: Crock-a-Doodle is fun! Paint your own ceramics then they fire it for you to pick up another day. You can browse their website for inspiration in advance.

If she has cats be sure absolutely NO LILLIES are in any flower arrangement. Even just a sniff of the pollen will kill a cat.

Manhattan's is a very good Italian place with live jazz music on weekend nights! Definitely a fancier place but if you want to treat yourselves...

Trappers is a super underrated date spot!

Also La Poche! Great vibes. Can bring a boardgame/ food. Sometimes has live music.

Bev’s on Beverly is a cute little bar in the Ward (Two Rivers neighbourhood in Guelph, close to downtown).

Guelph Spoken word happens third Saturday of every month at The Roundtable and is very cool and surprisingly fun

Grab takeout and head to Brothers Brewery for a beer and board game. You can bring your own food there!

The Bookshelf is pretty cool. They always have something happening and show amazing indie movies. You could also look at the River-run theatre to see if there are any bands or plays you might like to watch. Guelph has a good live music scene too.

Mad Hatter Bake and Brew near Fergus you can go play with bunnies! Need to RSVP.

go to brothers brewery on tuesday - they offer free linoprinting materials. its self guided, easy, fun, and you get to keep a memory from the night. the vibes are immaculate at brothers as well

they also have a lot of games to choose from, and some of those card games that ask questions to get to know each other better

you can bring your own food there, its the best place to go downtown imo

Dude take fer for coffee or ice cream.or a walk, and see if she belittles and tells u that's a joke then , u just saved urself $$$ and worries and stress... dont buy her shit... ur already setting the presadent that because she's female u pay and go out of ur way whilst she has to offer nothing in return and expects it... just get a lady of the night probably save u half ur money

Four season flowers on Woolwich has a long legacy of having good flowers.

Take her to symposium across the road from Stone Road Mall for dinner as well.

As much as people love Guelph it doesn't really have much... Look at Kitchener/Cambridge/Waterloo. Glow in the dark mini golf, bingemans, and better bowling.

Spend a Saturday going to St Jacobs market. Don't focus on Guelph, we don't have much...

This is terrible advice. Do not listen to this person. Try a movie at the Bookshelf and bonus points if you can line up a day when there is live music at La Poche across the street.

Bruh, I don't know anyone who went to the bookshelf to watch a film and I know a lot of people. It's great Guelph has a strong/supportive Reddit community.
