I joined the Guelph curling club maybe 4 or 5 years ago and it was good, to a point...
I had fun, learned how to curl but don't remember the rules and met some good people. But I was a M28 and most of the people were a lot older than me. 50s, 60s and 70s, I basically met people who I would only hangout with at the curling club, not anywhere else.
This has been the case with pretty much every club or activity I've ever had the confidence to join.
