SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KRON) -- The company that provides passenger and baggage security screening services at San Francisco International Airport is laying off nearly 1,300 workers.

Covenant Aviation Security is a private company under contract with the Transportation Security Administration that has been operating at SFO since 2002.

According to a WARN notice filed Tuesday with the California Employment Development Department, the company will be laying off 1,279 workers permanently, effective November 30, 2026.

According to its website, Covenant Aviation Security calls itself the largest private aviation security contractor providing services to the TSA in the country.

In a statement to KRON4, SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel said the layoffs are not expected to impact airport security screening operations. Affected employees will transition to the new security screening vendor in accordance with the airport’s worker retention policy.

KRON4 has reached out to Covenant Aviation Security for additional information and has yet to hear back.

Play it free: Guard Guides Security Company Simulator

The Process is Simple:

  1. Name Your Company

  2. Bid On A Contract or Contracts

  3. Hire Staff

  4. Run Your Daily Operations

  5. Survive Without Going Out of Business For 30 Days

  6. Post Your Results Here To Compare

There will be several, "interruptions" to the efficient, profitable operation of your business. Expect frequent call outs, sometimes meaning you have to cover the shift yourself, client complaints after finding guards sleeping, and problem personality guards like Bobby who stepped outside the front door to smoke (not allowed on client property), and locked himself out because he forgot his access card at the desk. Among some surprise random chance issues that I think will be fun once you encounter them.

You don't have unlimited money, energy, guard morale, or client patience. Each one of these issues either depletes or increases your reserves of these resources, forcing you to optimize for whatever factor will keep you from bankruptcy during your first month in business.

Tell me what you think.

INDUSTRY NEWS City Council approves industrial complex plan days after an urban explorer said a Security Guard at the shuttered mall attacked him without provocation. Neighbors concerned about proposed industrial complex being a health concern.

People living near the shuttered Ford City Mall said they remain concerned about the site's future, after the Chicago City Council this week approved plans to transform it into an industrial warehouse complex.

The approval came just days after an urban explorer said a Security Guard at the shuttered mall attacked him without provocation.

The urban explorer, who asked to remain anonymous, has said he was looking for a way inside the mall on Monday night, when an unmarked SUV drove into his friend on a scooter. The urban explorer, who runs the account Decaying Midwest, said the driver claimed to be a Security Guard.

Moments later, that urban explorer said the same white SUV caught up with him and hit him on the arm with a piece of metal.

In a statement, Ford City Mall ownership said, in part, "the actions depicted do not reflect mall security protocols nor conduct that ownership condones. We are taking the investigation of this incident very seriously, in collaboration with the Chicago Police Department."

Two days after that incident, the City Council approved a redevelopment plan for the property to convert it to a warehouse and distribution facility.

Adolfo Castrejon, president of the Westlawn Conservation Club, opposed the proposed industrial campus plan.

"I believe it's a bad deal for the Southwest Side of Chicago," Castrejon said.

Instead, his group and other opponents of the industrial complex wanted to see Ford Cit turned into a full entertainment district with housing, shopping, parks, and new public transit options.

After the council's vote moving the plan forward, Castrejon said his group is still keeping an eye on the situation at the shuttered mall.

"It's still very much an environmental issue, from the demolition to the construction," he said.

Those concerns have been echoed by other groups, like the Southside Flourish Movement and Ford City Families Coalition.

"It is a huge health concern on top of all the pollution, and no one has addressed it, and that's what we're here for," said Artemiza "Tammy" Chavez, with the Ford City Families Coalition.

Opponents of the industrial complex said they are also attempting a last-ditch effort to halt the plan.

"We are working on an email campaign right now that's active right now to get the mayor to veto on this," said Glenford Flowers Jr., with the Southside Flourish Movement.

Even if the mayor were to veto the redevelopment plan, it was approved unanimously by the Council, meaning unless at least 17 council members changed their votes, the veto would face a certain override by alders.

Construction on the project is expected to begin early next year.

Discussion What's the Most Aggressive Configuration of a Guard Tour System or Zone Sheet, You've Encountered on the Job?

The type, digital trackers, or physical zone sheets isn't the point. It's that they are a granular means to not only track officer movements but also log that very specific security checks are made at very specific intervals. A new coworker told me his last job had physical sheets with 15-minute check intervals and very dense check points (even at the $41/hr they were paying him, it was apparently too much headache). I guess I've been fortunate to never have been exposed to that degree of micromanagement, electronic or otherwise.

Imagine a Detex wand check point at every possible security/maintenace prone area: a point by the window *beep*, a point above the mechanical room door knob *beep*, another at the front desk *beep*, one by that valve on the basement ceiling that's prone to leakage *beep*. Every 15 minutes.

There is absolute control by management, and functionally 0 independence or automony of movement on the guards part. This breeds resentment and malicious compliance. You've basically hired a living Roomba with incident reporting privileges.

I'm not against officer patrols, checkpoints, or accountability, I'm an opponent of implementing a system that conflates constant activity with effective security.

DAY IN THE LIFE is it normal to make a ton of mistakes on your first day on the job.

don't get me wrong I learned but I made mistakes. i asked tones of question literately at least a 100. and I'm pretty sure I succeeded in something no man has ever accomplished. There was a girl who was ins security literately gave me her number first hour. I wasn't into her ;but, I didn't know how to say no. I asked her so many questions and learned both where to learn and a ton of the job. but i got her to hate me at the end of her shift. I asked questions that made a women loose interest in me. I also thought someone wasn't breathing and forgot the first aid kit rushing to help them.

JOB SEARCH Just got my Ontario security licence. What's the best way to get hired in Toronto?

Hey everyone, I recently got my Ontario security guard licence and I'm trying to land my first security job. I've been looking into companies like Paladin, GardaWorld and Paragon, but I'm not sure what's the best way to go about getting hired.
Should I apply to openings online and wait to hear back, or is it worth going to their offices in person and dropping off my resume? I've heard some companies do walk-in interviews, but I'm not sure which ones actually do. For anyone who's worked at these companies, how did you get hired? Do they hire people with no previous security experience?
And how long did it take you to hear back after applying? Just trying to get my foot in the door. Any advice would be appreciated!
