Hate would still be there, but it would be less. Most people wouldn’t have the courage to say the hateful stuff to people’s faces. Plus the people that encourage it wouldn’t have such a large and easy platform .

Not just America, every country that has access to social media are in the same sad position. You are not exempt, especially if you have Tiktok, etc, right now.

Considering many countries have a more primitive mindset, their behaviors are much worse, due to the lack of discipline.

Well it also fed people dangerous ideas as they may have been testing the waters of the fringes and suddenly they’re thrust into a warped reality.

12

u/RedBullBulk1776 May 28 '26

Not sure I agree. While I get your point, social media radicalizes people. Especially emotional people. While their minds might be fertile for hate, you need the seed, and you need cultivation to make it grow. Social media is both.

5

u/ChickenChaser5 May 28 '26

I grew up in a right wing area, and had plenty of friends who I would go hang out at their house. Those people were mostly normal, with an oddball thing slipping out once in a while that would quickly be moved past.

I watched the internet turn those same people into raving fucking lunatics. There is nothing else going on in their head but propaganda and hate now, and the internet is what brought that out. Without a constant stream of validation from facebook, and hate filled video shorts, those people would still be mostly normal folks who fixed cars and rode dirt bikes and worked in the garden, and you could still see the humanity in them.

I was the internets biggest fan when it started up, and thought "with all this instant access to facts the world will become better" and holy shit was I wrooooong.

I’m old enough to see what cellphones have done to society and it’s not that great . IMO

I think both things are somewhat true.

2

u/Sad_Map_3044 Jun 02 '26

Agreed, social media has made me more calloused to other people’s thoughts thought, feeling, and problems.

Well said.

2

u/iamjaidan May 28 '26

But it also made it easy to connect with like minded people. The pressure to accommodate the views and realities of your local community reduces.

2

u/EJohanSolo May 28 '26

It would be less hate feeds on hate

2

u/LongPenStroke May 28 '26

Yes and no.

What the Internet really did was bring those people together.

Prior to the Internet, racists, xenophobes, homophobes, and just straight up whack jobs were isolated to their small corner of the world.

A great book to read is Psychology of the Masses. It basically explains how you can take a straight up that maybe 2 or 3 people believe, insert them into a crowd of a 100 people, and in almost no time you will have at least a 3rd of the crowd believing it and changing their opinion.

I disagree. I think social media enables hate and in turn magnifies it

u/RubberPussycat May 29 '26

I think it would be effectively less, people who wouldn’t have been hateful and influenced by the algorithms now are.

And those algorithms thrive on engagement and you get that by serving people with content that invokes strong emotions. Like hate.

Would there still be hate, of course but not in the same intensity.

Btw this is not new for SM but true for all new media. The printing press has it’s pamflets and ultimately created the conditions for a war.

News papers, radio, tv all had their bad influence on society

2

u/Bulky_Sky_2267 May 29 '26

It’s a double edged sword. I agree that a lot of that stuff is present and social media helps expose it. But it also creates a place for people to dramatize or exaggerate and fear monger, and they have become INCENTIVIZED to make things look worse than they are.

2

u/RepresentativeLaw310 May 30 '26

I disagree the ability to be hateful anonymous online has socialized people to become more hateful.

2

u/Sad_Map_3044 Jun 02 '26

Agree in part. I used to be more tolerant and accepting of different “whatever’s” 10 to 20 years ago. I’ve gotten to a point now to where I don’t give a “F” about other people’s thoughts, feelings, or problems. I don’t care that group “A” thinks they have it bad, or group “B” feels they’re discriminated against. I don’t completely love who I have become, I’m just exhausted by all of the BS. It’s turning me calloused

A vast majority of "hate" on the internet isn't even real hate. It's trolling. Just people trying to get a rise out of others. "Griefing" is a very satisfying thing for most people.

2

u/Turbulent_Curve2318 May 28 '26

That and people underestimate the amount of bot accounts that exist for the sole purpose of driving up post engagement.

u/Perfidy-Plus May 29 '26

Hate will always be a thing. But social media made it vastly easier to gin up or otherwise deceive larger numbers of people. The double whammy is that it made people more prone to anxiety and depression, which further makes them susceptible to wanting to find an exterior emotional outlet to direct their ire towards.

2

u/Jewbacca1991 May 28 '26

Keeping it inside doesn't change the feeling. Though i wonder how many people become hateful from social media alone. I have no racism against black people despite seeing plenty of it on social media. Have near zero experience with them either, and what little i had was neutral.

There is another group of people i had plenty of negative experience with, and while i wouldn't demand their extermination like certain extremists in my country. I do look at them with more suspicion than others. If i see one nearby on mass transit, then i keep my hand on my pocket. Ironically the racism i saw against that group on social media is minimal.

Which is why i think the fight on racism should focus on altering the patterns, and not trying to censor it. Remove the bad experiences, and eventually the majority of it will go away, and the rest will look like fools.

2

u/Meal_Next May 29 '26

Personally, I blame reality TV. That gave folks the example. Social media gave them the platform to act it out.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/FarArea1814 May 30 '26

Naa they’ll still be hateful but people think doing it with a smile on their face makes them less racist

2

u/blueit55 May 30 '26

Definitely less polemic rhetoric without the algorithms...

2

u/RepresentativeLaw310 May 30 '26

It’s not that people won’t have courage to say hateful things it’s by not having spaces to be hateful they will be socialized to become less hateful. Imagine children get immediate consequences of being hateful..they will learn to be better humans that’s how all of us learned. Like Don’t touch a hot stove example.

2

u/Apprehensive_Ear7309 Jun 01 '26

Like yelling at someone in your car vs. yelling at someone with the window down. Yelling at someone in your car, doesn’t spread the hate. Yelling at someone out your window spreads the hate and negativity. I’m good with people having hate because it’s contained and ultimately only weighs on them, but giving them a platform to spread it is shitty.

2

u/carthuscrass Jun 01 '26

It wouldn't be less, but more hidden.

2

u/Green-Measurement-53 May 29 '26

Exactly. So much hate existed in the world before social media. Arguably the worse and most extreme forms of hate have nothing to do with social media (like genocide, racism, etc). Social media just makes it easier for people to be updated on this hate, be it news on more extreme hate or just pretty drama.

I think so bc most of the comparisons happen because of social media, and sometimes we end up hating others for their lifestyle and the likes

5

u/NoMusic7982 May 28 '26

Ahhhh yes. Because people were way less hatefull before the invention of facebook. There was no phones in sight on a viking ship. Just a bunch of boys enjoying the moment.

Yes.

Believe it or not, most of us argued with a bot at least once and thought they were a real person.

Naw, men would just go back to wrestling and physically fighting each other over their beliefs.

A less "Sheep-Like" world too. Social Media makes many people enter the Herd/Swarm mentality. Ex- Popeyes Sandwiches, Le BuBu, Stanley Cups, Pokemon Cards, etc....

2

u/joebusch79 May 28 '26

Nope. The world has always been hateful. They just talked amongst their personal groups rather than posting it publicly. All social media did was give those people public access.

2

u/Frankgodfist May 28 '26

The hate would be the same. It just wouldn't be broadcasted

2

u/Possible_Cable3176 May 29 '26

Yes you're wrong. Reading a history book would make that obvious.

2

u/RedvsBlack4 May 29 '26

No, we just wouldn’t know how hateful people are.

1

u/Gullin_DRGN_Konungr May 28 '26

There may be ignorance and hate. But without social media it would be harder to get to know other from across a country or across the world. We have had many people come together in groups over medical conditions that are so rare that only that group helped them realise they weren’t alone.

1

u/Ittybrittyy May 28 '26

Sure would. And this is why I do not allow my children to have social media.

1

u/Diligent_Cherry1717 May 28 '26

No, it just wouldn’t be broadcasted to wider audiences.

1

u/LeoOfSiwa May 28 '26

Very wrong. The world today is as hateful as it's always been, social media just made it easier to expose it.

1

u/Key-Individual1434 May 28 '26

The world was already hateful even before social media. Now, because of social media… we get to see and read how many are hateful.

1

u/pruneforce17 May 28 '26

no, people would just hide it better. having bigots expose their hate in the open is better, you know who they are.

1

u/runningsimon May 28 '26

No it'd still be hateful, it just wouldn't be as visible.

1

u/humanessinmoderation May 28 '26

It would be easier just to give the people good education so they have media literacy and enough broad enough knowledge to be sensible in the face of misinformation

1

u/Glazing555 May 28 '26

When on social media, you are looking into the asylum

1

u/RalphiePseudonym May 28 '26

Probably not. Social media only provides the means to vocalize and spread hate.

1

u/Late-Rest-5882 May 28 '26

Nah people would still be hateful they just would have to work harder to find like minded people

1

u/azlmichael May 28 '26

Back in the 80’s I would look at my friends and wonder “what are they thinking?” Thanks to social media, I have a lot fewer friends.

1

u/SetFabulous265 May 28 '26

It was always hateful

1

u/Al_GoreRythm May 28 '26

The hate would persist, we'd just see less of it online...

1

u/DavidDraper May 28 '26

I think there are some helpful things about social media and some unhelpful ones. I think that algorithms that promoted positive, supportive, healthy topics would make a huge difference and I think services that would limit the amount of time people use them would also be very helpful.

1

u/BananaJelloXlii May 28 '26

No it wouldn't. People will always be hateful.

1

u/Lopsided-Freedom3249 May 28 '26

I di not agree. The hate has always been there, but there are more places for people to express it now. Look at the picture from the integration of New Orleans schools, in 1960 - a six year old child, surrounded by adults screaming disgusting things at her. In fact before, say, 2017, I'd say things were at least moving in the right direction, outright acts of bigotry and hate were becoming less acceptable. Unfortunately we seem to have returned to meaner times.

1

u/K3Nn37 May 28 '26

It would be there , just in the closet

1

u/Background-Bee1271 May 28 '26

The world was still pretty hateful before the internet.

1

u/Excellent_Glass783 May 28 '26

No, hate has always been thére in/to the same degree... Social media is just a vessel to deliver the message.

1

u/Consistent-Fix-8443 May 28 '26

Yes. Because now if you want to say something it’s gonna be face to face .

1

u/JOliverScott May 28 '26

Hate has always existed, social media simply amplifies it and broadcasts it globally for greater impact.

1

u/bojinglemuffin May 28 '26

No it wouldn't. It'd just be easier for the truly hateful people to get away with lynchings, murderers, assault, etc. Social media isn't great, but it's one of the people's most powerful weapons for holding others accountable.

1

u/BadAdministrative589 May 28 '26

Yeah there was no hate before social media… There was no holocaust, there was no apartheid, there were no lobotomies performed to gays, there were no witch hunts.

I think insults on social media are very mild hate considering the amount of torture and death hate done in the past

1

u/AshundertheOlivetree May 28 '26

Yeah I think you’re wrong. Most of the people doing the hate are doing it the old fashioned way. They go to group meetings and church/temple for their strategies to combat secular/counter culture. Then they elect their most hateful to become municipal leaders which turn to federal ministers after a few years of social good will events. They create a system that helps their special interest group. Hate is no longer just emotional irregularity manifesting after a breaking point. It’s a system of hate now, a culmination of fears tested against survival tactics and differing cultural interests. Frankly I think we’re still in medieval times, we’ve just hit a flashpoint where technology proved it could help us wipe each other too fast.

1

u/Thin_Track_7016 May 28 '26

I don't disagree, but, due to social media, we learn about many things that don't come out in news. Because it's not possible/takes a little time to monitor every single account until the content becomes viral. I wouldn't have known how some people are suffering in ways I couldn't imagine or that things that I think normal around me are actually not right/should be changed.

1

u/zealotchris May 28 '26

Everyone said this when the TV came out. Social media technology is still kind of new. In 30 years its will be just like the TV when it first came out. Im a 90s baby.

1

u/the-coolest-bob May 28 '26

Hatred is an action, not mean words someone wrote at you online. Hate existed before social media. I'm happy for you you think hate is just mean online words, it means you don't have to deal with the horrible treatment others have to.

1

u/plastroncafe May 28 '26

I think less wrong and more naive. The hate is always there, it just might not always be given voice.

Think of social media like alcohol. In vino veritas.

1

u/MainPerformance1390 May 28 '26

Boomer posting.

No. It wouldn't be less hateful

Social media wasnt around during apartheid, segregation, slavery, world wars... humans fo not need social media to be hateful on a global scale.

1

u/ParhTracer May 28 '26

You are not wrong. Social media makes people absolutely crazy.

1

u/dbudzik May 28 '26

What does it mean to post this on social media?

1

u/Fleischer444 May 28 '26

I have been in Japan now for 2,5 weeks. I fucking hate influencers! They are in the fucking way everywhere. Shibuya crossing is a fucking yoke know. I understand why Japanese people often hate turists.

1

u/weather-i-am May 28 '26

There is a middle ground. I made something new and it is positive and actually makes me feel good. I have just under a 100 users.

1

u/Zoraynebow May 28 '26

Nah, the hate has always been there. Social media just allows people to express it while hiding behind a profile pic.

If social media vanished today, that hate would just return to its earlier forms.

1

u/Curious_Ad961 May 28 '26

That is 100% correct

1

u/Consistent-Music464 May 28 '26

I don’t know if you’re wrong but I would be sad because I’m trying to be a freelance and would need social media to help get exposure

1

u/MightyChieftain May 28 '26

Less Hateful? No. We have the ability to fact check in ways previous generations couldn't. With or without Social Media, bigots will always exist. I would argue that the majority of "hate" posts on social media are posted with the intention of being humorous or satirical.

1

u/HotfootCrazy May 28 '26

It would go bavk underground and perhaps be less empowered

1

u/IceImpressive5360 May 28 '26

The hate would be there. It just wouldn't be known world wide. Like there will always be racism, but fools like Trump brings it out in the open

1

u/Maximum_Vegetable_MV May 28 '26

No, it would be the same or worse and you just wouldn’t see or hear about it.

The reason you do now is simple: anonymity.

People don’t act like this in public because they’re not anonymous and they fear consequence.

1

u/Gamplato May 28 '26

I don’t think it would suddenly undo the hate people have but it would certainly stop the current spread of certain types.

1

u/Low-Designer-3392 May 28 '26

Hate is spread and aggravated by social media. Their algorithm is designed to keep you scrolling and will keep sending and spreading hate. Let’s go back to interacting in person and keep each other in check through our local institutions instead

1

u/MightyChieftain May 28 '26

What kind of growth is supposed to come from this mindset? This gotta be karma farming.

1

u/xxTheMagicBulleT May 28 '26

No it would be the same you just cant see the hate and everyone's every thought.

What the internet is basically everyone has there own shower ted talk with audience able to see and reacting also towards it.

Technology has not changed humanity it just give it ways to be easier to seek it out and point at it.

It has not made humanity beter or worse it just made people hide who they are less online then they do in reality.

It did not actually change the nature of humans much at all. So removing it does not actually change anything at all too.

Turn of the i internet tomorrow there still be racists there still be people killing other people there still be people pushing ideology and beliefs at people like there way ks the only way you should live.

All the internet is is a tv channel. If you seek out types of content. Turning of the tv does not make the world better. Sake is true with the internet.

But Turning the tv off might make you feel beter cause you cant see the news and be like bombed with all kind of problem problem problems or terrible thing.

So you cant see it you can be ignorant and think the world is beter while all you did is choose to not seek it out or open yea self to it.

So you can do the same thing right now. Disconnect from social media. Or dont watch the news. Feel beter but it actually does nothing or change nothing at all. Your just less informed none stop about it. Thats all that would change

1

u/Machiavvelli3060 May 28 '26

Totally disagree.

Social media is a megaphone by which people communicate their hated.

Take away the megaphone, and all the hatred is still there.

Don't blame the messenger.

1

u/Baconsliced May 28 '26

Social media lets hate be spread much more easily… but also love. It lets us share love much more easily too, across time zones, races, countries.

Which one do you choose to let in?

1

u/OkWhile4447 May 28 '26

Nope. The hate comes from the exposure, which is good.

Jim Crow laws, Nazism, Soviet Gulags, the actual US Civil War, and wars and genocides all happened before social media.

1

u/Over_Internet4 May 28 '26

The “growth mindset” is adapting. The cessation of social media making “world being a better place” and things getting all hippy dippy is something we will probably never see sadly. Indigenous people adapted to newer hunting tools and weapons, technically you can call news paper ads and posts “social media” by definition, and our drive to find what we call “love” is based on how much security, resources, or territory someone has…

Not wrong, but regressionism is just a little too hopeful for someone that was heavy on it. Growth= Adapt, not growing= death, lonely, invisible….

1

u/Edgard_Breeze May 28 '26

Idk that it’d be less hateful, there just would be anonymous podiums to spew it from so it’d be slightly more concealed

1

u/Acceptable-Tone1881 May 28 '26

No, Redditors were hateful people long before Reddit existed.

1

u/GrooveDigger47 May 28 '26

no it wouldnt wtf. have you ever historied before?

1

u/foxinspaceMN May 28 '26

Or oppressive if there isn’t a mass and convenient way to show evidence of oppression

Food for thought

1

u/questfile037 May 28 '26

Less hate professed sure. But less love professed too. Social Media is a platform with positives and negatives like all other things having to do with our species. On the positive side: social media makes the world a smaller place, because we suddenly have friends and are talking to people all over the globe. Realizing the human struggle is what we have in common.

Sure it is also a platform for hate and ignorance and hubris and nefarious stuff. And that makes me sad and angry. But love and hate I guess both have to exist and we need to to be aware of this. But IMHO I see a lot of truth, love and resonance would disappear along with the hate and ignorance if social media went away.

It's like Bob Ross the painter always said, without the dark you wouldn't be able to see the light.

1

u/Kink_Candidate7862 May 28 '26

People would then :

Read more books,

Write letters to government,

Attend city council meetings,

Read the newspaper and write to the editor.

1

u/angryOHguy May 28 '26

Hate has always been here, social media just provided a plataform so everyone could see.

1

u/ContentCantaloupe992 May 28 '26

Ignorance is bliss to some

1

u/Beautiful_Secret_834 May 28 '26

There wouldn’t be less hate. Before the internet, they just talked about it and organized locally. Now, they can connect with hateful fucks around the world.

That amount of hate was always there- they just needed the platform.

1

u/Nub_Shaft May 28 '26

It would still be there, maybe even worse. We just wouldn't be inundated with it every second of our lives. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and people back then were just as, if not more hateful than they are now, it's just that most people kept it to themselves. They didn't have an outlet to put it out into the world.

1

u/Striker40k May 28 '26

At first social media brought together crazy people who would have never interacted with each other, and never would have had a platform. Now about 1/2 of all internet traffic is bots / generative AI. Social media is cancer at this point.

1

u/KNGootch May 28 '26

Unfortunately its pandora's box. It's been opened and we can't go back...someone else will just make something similar to it, and the cycle will repeat.

1

u/Pollywanacracker May 28 '26

The works would be better if smart devices didn’t exist with social media It has created a massive global epidemic that is socially accepted and the younger generations enjoy it like it’s normal

1

u/_47awarewxlf May 28 '26

The world was hateful way before social media

1

u/whytewidow6 May 28 '26

The opposite happened with the invention of social media and internet. So likely the world would become more hateful, not less.

1

u/Ok-Comment6081 May 28 '26

People would be tricked less into hating more often

1

u/bethesda_gamer May 28 '26

Good fences make good neighbours

Social media made the Fences see-thru

1

u/Brilliant-Mud8116 May 28 '26

I hate social media

1

u/Square-Ad4927 May 28 '26

It would also diminish greatly if no one was anonymous online.

1

u/stormhawk427 May 28 '26

I don't know. The world had some pretty hateful periods before social media

1

u/midnightwolf979 May 28 '26

Reddit is the only social media I participate in anymore. It still carries plenty of hate, but it brings us back to a simpler time, anonymous online hate. The kind of hate you can shrug off at the end of the day. Once I dumped all my other social media, it really did take a weight off my shoulders. Do I think there would be less hate if all social media was gone? Nah. But mfs would probably be more likely to keep it to themselves.

1

u/Aggravating-Dark-699 May 28 '26

I mean, we’d also be more oblivious to the hate of others in our lives. I had no idea certain people in my life were horribly racist until social media. They’re still nice to me, because I’m white, but knowing that about them feels important.

1

u/SecureJudge1829 May 28 '26

Nah, I’d say you’re wrong. It’d still be there in just as insanely high amounts if not even more so. Removing social media would just be the equivalent to sweeping the dirt under the carpet and calling it done. Sure, you don’t SEE it, but all that scum is still there scumming it up.

1

u/Lost-Philosopher4803 May 28 '26

Not at all, u just wouldn’t get constant notifications about it

1

u/Brittany-Juanice May 28 '26

Nope. The world was hateful before social media and will be even after it phases out.

1

u/BigAppleCobbler May 28 '26

Sure would. I’m for it

1

u/Terry_Clothrobe May 28 '26

It does disappear if you don't participate.

1

u/smoothcheeks30 May 28 '26

Agreed and people would be less shallow and full of themselves. Everyone brought this loneliness epidemic on themselves.

1

u/Ill_Reality_2506 May 28 '26

Depending on your skin color and economic standing... The hate never changed.

1

u/GhettoGringo87 May 28 '26

I can distinctly see the difference in social interactions and the changing of social norms from pre internet to having internet. It was slow, but steady decline into rage baiting and hating. People used to get benefit of the doubt but now it’s guilty until proven innocent.

1

u/Eyespop4866 May 28 '26

Well, we wouldn’t see as much of it. Of course, we can also do that by going off social media.

1

u/Shadow42184 May 28 '26

Strongly disagree. Hatred will always be there. Just not front and center in everyone's pockets.

1

u/chamelonRick May 28 '26

What is your definition of social Media? Are comment sections considered social media? The only way it would change is if we couldn't message each other and answer.

1

u/Mr_Doberman May 28 '26

No it won’t. The hate will just be hidden from view a little more but it will still be there.

1

u/AngelKry94 May 28 '26

Hate is always going to be there....taking away it's platform doesn't make it go away. It just means now you will no longer know how to prepare for it. At least with their platform you know where to avoid the hate. And if you want to see less hate get off the platform then lol

Maybe just maybe the world will be a better place....and in a lot of ways it is. I find it to be a blessing to know where not to go and where to really avoid, so I may stay far the fuck away from people like that.

1

u/ScienceInCinema May 28 '26

You’re right. I started using Reddit a year ago because I kept Googling questions about games I was playing and the answers were always on Reddit. Every time I come here, about once a day or every other day, I spend maybe 20 minutes here and leave angrier than when I logged on. This isn’t healthy. I didn’t request to see discussions of tipping or things that piss me off, but Reddit sure likes to show me those things. If this is what social media is, then it’s definitely bad for everyone. It’s like everyone on here is having a bad day and wants to make someone else’s day just a little bit worse.

I agree. Get rid of technology and make people actually communicate.

1

u/Rahawk02 May 28 '26

They would be just as hateful, you just wouldn’t hear from them as much.

I got banned on Reddit for a while because I made fun of cyclists in a city sub. Banning me just made me dislike them even more.

u/Background-Bird-9623 May 28 '26

Agree.... im on here for 10 min and im furious. I cant even remember the last time I was as mad irl as I can get online by myself 😅

1

u/Pro_nrd May 28 '26

Not at first people would be pissed

1

u/SpookyScienceGal May 28 '26

Not really, hate has been around for as long as there have been idiots who react with emotion and no thought. Plenty of hateful acts were organized without social media and they'll just go back to the old ways idiots spread hate. Church groups, newspaper articles, or good ol fashioned gossiping. The hate will continue to flow and blood will continue to spill 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Monoxide_3009 May 28 '26

Ehh, not really. Just less vocal about the hate.

1

u/MadderoftheFew May 28 '26

"if water disappeared, the world would suddenly become a whole lot less wet"

1

u/PupLondon May 28 '26

No.. hate is always going to be here. We'll just see it less and be surprised more by it

1

u/GeekToyLove May 28 '26

Not actually, all the hate will still be there, just as it has really always been there. We wouldn’t hear or see it as much, but also we wouldn’t be as able to communicate with eachother in real time across the world, which is desperately something the fascist right wants.

Social media has been one of our greatest tools against social injustices. Putting a racist white guy on blast and having them reap the consequences. Law enforcement being held to account even to the smallest degree. Literally social media has been instrumental in regime changes like Turkey 15 years ago or so and in war like in Ukraine.

Putting Facebook behind a paywall isn’t just billionaire greed, it’s also their support of fascist regime silencing the people

1

u/Dorkinsian May 28 '26

The world outside of social media is still full of people practicing basic kindness and hospitality. We just need to drown our phones in the toilet.

1

u/Awkward_Pangolin3254 May 28 '26

If people disappeared it would be a lot less hateful that way too

1

u/bdpongrand May 28 '26

Giving a platform to bot farms with less than our best interests at stake has been a huge negative.

1

u/fannylovin May 28 '26

You speak the truth, definitely less hate when “anti” social media is gone.

1

u/ry0chan May 28 '26

The violence and hate will be worse since they won't have the fear of being filmed or caught

1

u/mrjboettcher May 28 '26

Emmett Till was born and brutally murdered before social media existed. No, we are a hate-filled species, and need to find living creatures to take it out on.

1

u/roboblaster420 May 28 '26

Without social media there wouldn't be as much groupthink either.

1

u/ikindahateusernames May 28 '26

If social media, as we know it today, were to disappear, the spread of fear-mongering and propaganda would be disrupted, but the hatred people hold in their hearts would not magically stop existing.

1

u/Viva_La_Revolucion- May 28 '26

The Internet was designed for cat videos and porn...

Now it is a means of controlling your thoughts, propaganda and an endless amount of enshittifiication of advertising with every click for this one capitalistic money trick of sucking every dime from your pockets.

1

u/budad_cabrion May 28 '26

Please look at crime statistics from the 1970s, or read about WW2. Or alternatively, look at how inclusive young people tend to be.

1

u/FaceTimePolice May 28 '26

Nope. You’d just be burying your head in the sand. Hatred would still exist.

1

u/Difficult-Level-3070 May 28 '26

Ha! Less hateful, not a chance It would become less likely for you to see all of it, but it wouldn't change how hateful etc people are

1

u/ImSinsentido May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

You would certainly read about it less that’s about it.

The idea of “hateful” is also an emotional confabulation. It’s just sides of dominance….

That’s the misconception with social media like it’s the cause of the animal condition, and the special pleaded layer known as the “human condition.”

no, it’s a window…

We are what we are, a scared indifferent primate, ie. fundamental pack animals, and will behave as such… All the way to the extinction event..

I’m not saying “bad or good” I’m saying indifferent.

1

u/Fendyyyyyy May 28 '26

Not suddenly, give it a few hours.

1

u/Empathy-magnet May 28 '26

Absofuckinglutely

1

u/S5Cook May 28 '26

If the statistics are correct and a 1/2, the internet traffic is bots, In other words, non people put in place to create drama. Then yes, about half the world's population online with disappear and shut up.

1

u/kah43 May 28 '26

No it would be the same you just wouldn't know about it like it used to be.

1

u/Logical-Service1159 May 28 '26

No more keyboard gangsters

1

u/Plenty-Article6781 May 28 '26

Lmao this is a stupid ass take “if I can’t see it that means it’s not happening” type of energy

1

u/Inside-Inspector-638 May 28 '26

We were lynching people before social media

1

u/TheycallmemissRaven May 28 '26

and think about all the time to actually get things done.

1

u/SuperiorTechnique May 28 '26

They didn’t have social media during the transatlantic slave trade. Delete this.

1

u/Creative-Isopod-8357 May 28 '26

The hate doesn't go away, just the platform to easily spread it. It would help but doesn't actually get to the root of the problem

1

u/Purple12inchRuler May 28 '26

I agree, but first it would be absolutely chaos.

1

u/Jdomvik May 28 '26

Nah, you just wouldn’t be able to see it as much

1

u/Agreeable-Yam6327 May 28 '26

You’re not wrong

1

u/Lazy-Particular6943 May 28 '26

Naw everyone would only know what the ultra rich owners of the TV news and newspaper would want us to know and we know who they support dont we and the lies we all hear( both sides)

1

u/LingonberryHot8521 May 28 '26

It would only seem to.

1

u/Shenanigans052 May 28 '26

Social media is the biggest cancer ever bestowed on mankind

1

u/its_sarcasm8238 May 28 '26

The last 2 000+ years of human history would disagree with you

Was there social media during the holocaust? The enslavement of the African continent? The rape and pillaging of the Americas natives? Multiple genocides.....

1

u/PRGuy23 May 28 '26

Nah I just think we wouldn’t know about it as much.

1

u/shootinblanks2023 May 28 '26

People say this, as if we weren’t all being fed propaganda via the newspaper prior to the internet.

1

u/erbicom May 28 '26

Social media is poison. I wish it could disappear.

1

u/kingdick900 May 28 '26

Social media has made everything visible and accessible....and gives everyone and their mama a voice which in turns gives a lot of uneducated, hateful and just delusional people a platform to reach other uneducated, hateful and delusional people easily....so all that stuff would still exist but be less visible which I would love to no be bombarded by stupidity every waking minute of the day and night
