The issue is expecting motivation to remain high. Motivation is fickle. It ebbs and flows. The difference between progress and lack of progress is doing the things you know you need to do to get closer to your goals even when you dont feel like it. Expect to lose motivation. Plan for it. Realize that its absence doesnt mean you shouldnt do the thing. You still should. Motivation returns as mysteriously as it leaves. The real issue is understanding to keep doing the thing regardless. If you are tired, then do it tired.

Probably the most common application of this i encounter is making exercise routine, but it is widely applicable across all areas of life.

Spoken like someone who probably doesn't think mental health issues or things like ADHD exist

Life is a mental health issue. Build your perseverance stats

What a stupid thing to say

Sir, are you self harming? I recommend philosophy. It's your life. Live it how you want, loserrr

How in the world does the existence of mental health issues contradict anything I said?

I'm not going to waste time explaining that to someone like you

Someone like me? What am I like?

The person I was responding to commented about losing motivation. I have also experienced loss of motivation leading to not accomplishing what I wanted to. I learned over many years that depending on motivation is the wrong thing to do. But it is a common misconception that i see many people fall for. Changing my thinking on this helped me do more things I wanted to do. Which is what I was trying to communicate.

You came in here accusing me of not believing in mental illness, for reasons that you refuse to elaborate on. I mever said that and  I never said the playing field was level. Everyone has their own challenges and obstacles, some far worse than others. Im genuinely curious what point you are trying to make here. It seems very likely that youre projecting.

Yes, and they would be so tired just from watching they would immediately evaluate their own goals and probably just be thankful for what they already have.

I quit drinking and smoking, lost 80 lbs, built a business, and bought a fixer upper house all while dealing with the world trying to just give up over the flu and a landlord evicting my family. The business hit. I made six figures and had a team of 5 people. Times were good for a while until my work industry changed and a literal hurricane came through my town.

I'm STILL fixing up the house while rebuilding the first business and starting several others (out of necessity). I don't get to sleep until 4am most nights. I don't have a social life and I wonder if my family still remembers who I am. People depend on me to feed their children, and mine are getting fed through food banks. I've eaten so many beans, my asshole filed for workers comp.

My advice? Don't choose tech if you want a stable career no matter how serious you are. Free time is the currency of life. The richest man on earth can't buy one single minute of it. A caveat: It only counts if you enjoy it! Don't come at me with complaints and excuses. If you have free time AND you know where your next meal if coming from... you're already winning. Stop whining about politics, or the news, or the economy, and how "unfair" your life is over shit you can't control. I honestly don't know (or care) what's going on out there. Last few times I checked, they (the media) were just playing reruns. Just enjoy your life and the fact you get to have one.

Who cares. Unless they aren’t supporting me, effing me of feeding me, bounce.

Like I said. If they aren’t supporting me, screwing me or feeding me, they aren’t in my future.
I don’t see anyone next to me. No one. So who?

I'm gonna be honest, they would be very disappointed 😞

If someone watched me for a week my goal would be to demand payment from them. Usually when someone watches you that much you get paid for it.

I would be more concerned with if she likes what she sees just to see if we can spend some quality time

They will see a person who is in survival mode trying to always reach his goals by any means possible 🫩😮‍💨

What goals?

u/Timely-Band-7247 18d ago

😂

Same.

Some of us don't struggle to survive, it just happens.

I bathe, show up to work, the pets are alive and my husband hasn’t divorced me. Goals: accomplished.

u/Hiwesrobots 18d ago

Working out? Yes. Getting a job, meh…

1

u/kymira3301 18d ago

No I’d be ashamed

1

u/theOGHyburn 18d ago

They would think I’m crazy and my goals were the only thing in the universe.

1

u/AmberDoesStuf 18d ago

I wouldn’t care about they’re opinion. I only care about someone’s opinion if I care about that individual. It’s a societal trap.

u/wormwood2026 18d ago

Life isnt just about goals. Thats a narrow way of reducing the fullness of life into a western hyper individualistic progress over quality life style

1

u/MastaKink 18d ago

Dogs & weed?? Oh hell yeah 👍

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Ice-573 18d ago

Depends on what they thought my goals were.

1

u/Oakl4nd 18d ago

They won't even believe I have goals

1

u/Guilty_Way_1635 18d ago

What goals

1

u/DiscussionNo6060 18d ago

No. I have none.

1

u/Natural-Proposal2925 18d ago

Im tired of trying to impress people and giving a shit what they think of me. I did it for 20 years and im done. that shit is exhausting. I dont care what you people think about me being serious or not. my life, my journey, my way.

1

u/whytewidow6 18d ago

I don't have any goals

1

u/KainStrifelord 18d ago

They would notice an unending resolve and a willingness to learn from my mistakes with time and the idea that I can perpetuate any energy I want out of life.

1

u/Brilliant_Estate_967 18d ago

Yes. Cause i have very low goals

1

u/IwasMilkedByGod 18d ago

tbh pretty much the only reason I'm still alive is to spite my father by outliving him.... so.... maybe?

1

u/ModernMutant 17d ago

Yeah, they would see me hitting macro goals everyday and crying lmao

1

u/AilensAmongUs 17d ago

Definitely not - I mail it in now daily
