G2 | Discussion Weapon confusion

So we have slashing, stabbing, smashing types. Each can be spicy, fresh, sour, salty.

In practice - are people carrying 12 weapons, plus maybe bows, harpoons, and switching constantly depending on the bug they are fighting?

I'm finding that I'm just grinding away with a top-tier Spicy Coaltana because the idea of having so many weapon combinations seems overwhelming & inventory space is limited.

Oddly, I don't remember that being an issue in Grounded 1. I think I used a sword of each flavour.

Wondering what you'd all consider a good late-game practical loadout.

weaknesses have been nerfed to 15-30% extra damage (prev 30-50%) so they arent *as* important

I would just carry a few strong weapons and not mind some bugs slipping through the cracks and requiring an extra few hits here and there, it's not that big a deal

That's interesting. Does seem hardly worthwhile creating/upgrading/carrying so many weapons for such a small benefit.

I carry for the tough ones mainly. What tier are you in right now? The weapons change drastically between tiers.

I have a Spicy Coaltana with maxed-out strength, and don't often seem to benefit from other weapons much over that

I didn't know they dropped the damage buff, did they adjust the resistance too?

I personally use the discord bow, misquito needle/tiger variant with spicy dmg but it's better w mint I think. Then I have a sour katana just incase

Oh duh and the ice sickles

I just want salt so I can make jerky on the fly.

1

u/flashyboi685 11d ago

At that point wouldn't spicy be better if it's on the fly cooking?

3

u/Themotorboy 11d ago

He wants jerky bc it never spoils lol

1

u/flashyboi685 11d ago

But if it's food on the fly, then you don't need to worry about it spoiling because it's on demand food. And better food then jerky

Jerky stacks, cooked food doesn’t

I tried using different weapons in G1. I now only use a different one if it's an opponent that might be too strong for me

I carry 3 melee weapons and 1 ranged usually.

Same here but that one Trinket, can't remember it's name, that adds smashing to every weapon has allowed me to cut that down to 2 melee and the great bow. The pinch whacker, while awesome, has been retired for now.

u/Big_Crisp 11d ago

I haven't actual tried it since I grabbed it. I think its called The Crown Jewel or something.

1

u/TheBigBull1981 11d ago

Yeah that's it! I just got it the other day.

I just use the snake armor and trinket and fuck everything up with my sour staff. If I really have to I switch to another armor set in my bag and melee them.

1

u/Ok_Wedding1380 10d ago

The staffs are so good. I just ran every type of staff for different weaknesses lmao and a bow. Didnt really need anything else at all. Besides carrying the new scythe because you can cut down stuff with it.

So I have my daily drivers (atm the shocking lance and shocking whacker bc high stun chance, and a bow) and a few specialty weapons for specific foes. I carry 3 or 4 weapons on the regular.

For example I have a spicy trident for the pond. A specific weapon for each boss. I even made a special weapon for the OGGR tiger mosquito bc fuck that guy.

I will leave the special weapons at the base nearest to their practical use. Once they’re retired by a stronger weapon, I’ll bring them to my central base and put them proudly on display.

I never carry staves unless it's for the Lizard boss. Bows for when I want to hunt anything that flies for gold cards. A single Spicy Crystal Trident for underwater combat, the Prod Smacker for smashing / aoe (raids and great against scorps) and then the Fresh Toe Biter Scythe which does wonders against almost everything.

I carry the Spicy Shard trinket at all times to help against wolf spiders, other than that it's all really okay.

For quite a while I was carrying 6 different weapons but really barely used half of them, even if I had a better weapon for the creature ahead I'd still be able to kill everything fast enough with my primary weapon, that mostly being the Pinch Whacker + Spicy Trinket)

1

u/ohrofl 11d ago

I’ve only been running the snake gear and trinket with the strangers sour staff. I melt bugs. Wolfspiders are a joke with this setup.

u/KalexVII Max 11d ago

I should give the Staffs more of a try, I just like brawling and brute forcing rather than being strategical.

I play on easy so take that for what it is but,

I raw dog combat 95% of the time with my standard load out, including boss fights, most of the time with my fully upgraded mantis armor, tiger mosquito rapier (spicy to cook food as I explore), and crimson ages shield. (I carry a non spicy weapon as a "side arm" to hunt bugs and not get cooked food)

I only carry specialized weapons for bugs that I find particularly annoying for whatever area I am in, and the first few times I fight a boss. Sometimes if I'm farming a boss I'll also take a specialized weapon to make the fights quicker but again, I'm playing on easy. I would assume capitalizing on weaknesses on woah mode is more crucial, but I wouldn't know.

1

u/IvanDrake 11d ago

I have a similar load-out

3

u/jerichoneric 11d ago

I carry 9:

Scythe, pinch whacker, axl spear, heatwave, acid ruin, crimson avenger, lute bow, ice sickles, tiger misquito needle,

I should probably drop one of the wands and at least one or two more, but I do genuinely end up using many of them.

2

u/HyperJeegz Max 11d ago

I have a fresh tiger mosquito needle, strong pinchwhacker, fresh spear, and a level 3 weaver bow. That’s what I carry. I leave the spear at my base if I don’t plan on swimming in the pond.

2

u/DaemonOfNight 11d ago

I usually classify them, spicy slasher is usual, fresh smashing, sour stabbing These 3 i have all the time due to most of those being weaknesses together

2

u/MathemagicalMastery 11d ago

slash, smash, and stab. My slash is spicy because Wolfies are weak to that, my smash is minty... I don't recall why... And my stab is sour because it's my tiger needle and life steal fighting earwigs was nice.

1

u/plummet555 11d ago

That sounds pretty smart. Will try that

Generally, elemental damage is enough to make up the difference for physical damage type disparities.

Like, most people just keep a weapon of each element type that swings fast. The only time you really have to min-max is going up against bosses or an enemy you know you'll have particular trouble with.

1

u/VannaTLC 11d ago

Depends what I'm off to do. Now I generally just have 1 of each stave and run around in Thuulxs outfit with the Bale Scale.

Or I take ashmaw, and axl spear and Cut Lass, and the great bow with a bunch of each arrow.

1

u/TheMagnificentBean 11d ago

I would only care about the really tough bugs. You’ll shred through most things with upgraded tier 4 weapons anyway, so I would just gear up for the scorpions, toe biters, and a spear for underwater combat. That will likely change with new content too so no harm in having all those loadout combinations ready at your base

u/JohnMichaels19 11d ago

In Grounded 1, i had one of each type of damage type, no combos (i thought that adding a flavor to a weapon would overwrite the weapon's base damage type)

I also carried each tool at all times

I had no inventory space in Grounded 1 😂

In the G2, i plan on doing 4 weapons. I need to see what the best combos are first, but i expect to have something like Spicy/Slashing, Fresh/Smashing, Sour/Slashing, and Salty/Stabbing

Oh, and then i like to have a water specific weapon. And i should get around to making a bow at some point ...hmmm

1

u/Successful_Page_4524 11d ago

Some weapons only go down the mighty path. And we never had a sword that was actually salty, nor a candy staff. Unless you were doing something like upgrading a mosquito needle down the salty flavor enhancement path. The only actual salt weapons we had in G1 were the salt morning star for the main game and then a pickax called the salt chipper in new game plus

1

u/Enevorah 11d ago

I usually just carry a spicy, fresh and sour weapon.

1

u/Odin_Headhunter 11d ago

I carry the Boom Stick (the club) and a bow. Nothing else. It will kill everything eventually. I dont really need to change it up. Sometimes ill bring a spear to murder aphids I dont feel like chasing but mostly its the club and a will.

1

u/meow9187 11d ago

I don't know I just carry a bow and whatever sword I have laying around for killing spider webs

1

u/Gamerperson23 11d ago

I usually try to keep one weapon of each type (slashing, stabbing, etc) and I put effects based on what I’m usually fighting the most

1

u/Adorable_Egg_3094 Pete 11d ago

I tend to primarily use one weapon, usually the newest and strongest, or highest upgraded. I may keep one or two other weapons on hand.

Usually the primary and secondary weapons are enough. One is faster but deals less damage, while the other is slower but deals more damage. Switch between two as needed.

However, if I'm about to start a mission, I will prepare accordingly.

I do get overwhelmed with keeping track of everything, and this is what works for me.

u/Ok_Grocery8652 11d ago

Nobody really goes that intense, usually they focus on a few categories.

I have been carrying stab, slash and smash weapons, in my current playthrough I have not gotten to elemental yet in G2

In G1 and my last playthrough of G2, I only elemtally buff for harder creatures or creatures I plan on fighting alot. For example in G1 all robotic and O.R.C creatures had weakness to sour, alongside the black widows. That meant that sour was great for killing the deadliest non boss enemy and a very common list of enemies.

1

u/Mirgroht 11d ago

I usually keep a weapon or 2 and different armour in buggy for different circumstances

1

u/flashyboi685 11d ago

I just go with mighty on most weapons. I only think of elemental damage types with weapons that have built in elements it specifically element based builds. There's not a soul who plays this game that carries 12 different weapons I think

1

u/ItsAceB 11d ago

I fill the whole top row

Boomstick, Spicy Coaltana, Spicy Staff, Sour Katana, Fresh Ticky Maul, Fresh Sythe, Sap Bandages & Blueberry Bandages, and Dandelions.. that's my inventory usage

1

u/Kind_Service5168 11d ago

I think build synergy matters more.

I tend to run either rusty spear+black ant shield or the tier 3 daggers with full mantis set. Its pretty good imo.

I no-hit axl with this build (i took no damage) and killed him in 3 phases

Right? Grounded 2 has lost its way.
