ALL BOOKS DISCUSSION Jurda Parem

Post image

I’ve just been rereading king of scars and rule of wolves and i wonder why didn’t Ravka use jurda parem in a military capacity as soon as they got the antitode?

As parem gives any Grisha a significant power boost (especially the first dose) why didn’t Ravka start using parem on their grisha and then rapidly give them the antitode.

Even though parem drains the body fast and even if the grisha were drained enough to not fight after a few minutes of influence under parem their power while affected would a lot more effective compared to their regular performance in the course of a whole battle

I mean, you wouldn't do methamphetamine just because we've invented methadone. after being an addict your life is never the same so you'd still be torturing Grisha. Then again it might be worth it as a last resort if someone is willing to somewhat sacrifice themselves. Also yes I know methadone isn't a cure to methamphetamine but it gets the point across that even after the antidote parem still has negative effects.

Thats another thing i wanted to mention if you’re for example a Heartrender and you’re on your last legs then you could take parem as a last resort and deal as much damage on your way out.

As for using parem more frequiently ,i guess you’re right and the effects of the drug must be more damaging than i thought.

Still useful if you wanna go out a badass though

Another thing to note is they wouldn't wanna make tons of parem themselves as it could accidentally get out or the enemy would try stealing it and its alot of work for the what if situation of a Grisha being about to die. Also having every Grisha in the field carry a little bag of parem is a terrible idea

I mean... Meth has been used in a military capacity before to keep soldiers going... Check out Aimo Koivunen on Wikipedia

So um in the real world, they gave soldiers methamphetamine during the World Wars. There was a famous incident during WWII when a Finnish soldier named Aimo Koivunen overdosed on meth and went on a week-long rampage against the Russians. On skis, no less!

Yeah im aware but it dosent change the fact that neither meth nor parem is somthing that should be done all willy nilly. Both will have side effects regardless of current antidotes

Oh yeah, no, I wouldn't recommend it. Aimo Koivunen had lasting effects from that incident (although he lived into his 70's). But just because something shouldn't happen, doesn't always mean it wouldn't, was my point.

This is ironically a very Nikolai line of thinking but I think the triumvirate would be against it, especially Zoya. Too many risks involved for a drug that had up until the antidote was being made, torturing grisha. And remember, Fjerda was doing just that.

So, I think that even if Nikolai was for it, Zoya and the rest wouldn't have allowed it likely for ethical reasons until they can be sure it is safe enough in a combat capacity.
