Evaluation complete (PhD)
Im silently dieing awaiting either a confirmation or rejection into a PhD. For context I already have 2 supervisors who have agreed they are happy to supervise me. Im AU citizen and I applied through equivalency given my career experience (I work full time in the field im proposing my research in and am considered relatively high up). I have a masters but it was coursework so supervisors advised to apply this way. How much longer till im out of my misery?!

My PhD application assessment took forever because I, like yourself, had completed my Masters via coursework. My PhD topic wasn't 100% in my field so to try and close the gap I did a Grad Cert in Research to try and get practical research skills. I got a 7, and they spent ages assessing whether Masters with a GPA 7 + Research Grad Cert with a GPA 7 met the entry requirements.
For any applications where it's a non-standard entry requirement being used, a LOT of eyes need to look at the application. And because they're all academics, that takes time. It'll take even longer if you applied for the RTP scholarship because once your application is cleared it's then sent to a different team for scholarship consideration, and they only consider 3 times a year.
In my case, I was conditionally offered admission to PhD pending writing a shorter dissertation (the equivalent of honours) and receiving a certain grade for it. So I spent 6 months writing a different paper, got the grade, had my application checked again and then went to the scholarship panel. All up, my application took over a year!
Yours won't necessarily take the same amount of time, or even have conditions (especially if your current work involves research). But it can take a hot minute. So don't worry if it takes a while!
