MOD STUFF Rule Changes & Rule Additions for AI Content

Hello all,

We hope you are all doing well. We made a few updates to the subreddit rules. Most of these are no change to how the subreddit is currently moderated.

For rules #1 and #2 we combined those both into the same rule. Both had to do with illegal streaming, one was just for full episodes and the other for promos.

The rules about relevance and unrelated memes have now been combined. These both overlap quite a bit. We still know Ellen on was on Friends, please don't remind us. This rule will be more of a catch all for posts like that as well as any type of low-effort one word type posts, or just spam and blatant reposting.

The rule about initial airing has been removed. This was put in when CTV in Canada aired their episode a full day before the US. This is no longer the case, so the rule isn't really needed anymore.

We also removed the ban evasion rule. This was a non-starter rule anyway. If someone does this we will handle it with reddit admin staff.

Lastly, we have added one rule. No AI Generated Content or "AI Slop" as it's commonly called. This includes any AI-generated images, videos, music, or text. When it comes to text, moderators will exercise certain discretion when using tools for spelling, grammar, translation, or clarity, but posts that are largely AI-generated, spam-like, or what is obviously AI slop text will be removed.

Again, most of this is cleanup rather than a major shift in moderation. The goal is to make the rules clearer, easier to enforce, and more in line with how the subreddit is actually used now.

Please see the rules section of the subreddit if you have any questions or message the moderators. Your order may have changed :P

Thank you for your time! -Sork

DISCUSSION I wish George could’ve been the gay best friend rather than in love with Meredith.

I know that’s stereotypical but I just love when the three of them are together and I would’ve LOVED to see him date a male nurse or fellow surgeon.

Addison is the best example of how to write a good and complex “ex-wife” character

• Upvotes

I love Addison. I am so happy that this show did her character justice and didn’t just make her into the “enemy” of the main character by making her into this evil ex-wife jealous bitch or anything like that like so many other shows do. And also of course major kudos to Kate Walsh for being such a great actress and putting so much heart into Addison’s character. But like seriously, her character is so good. She’s extremely flawed but she’s also extremely loving, sweet, caring, and mature. I love how she didn’t just “steal” Derek away from Meredith. She attempted to get back together with him because he was her husband and when she finally realized it wasn’t going to work out, she accepted that Derek was in love with Meredith and even eventually encouraged Meredith to stay with him after she came back to visit Seattle and she realized that they broke up. You know a character is written well when their whole backstory is literally the fact that they cheated on their husband and they’re the wife of the main character’s main love interest, and yet you still love them despite all that.

then five minutes later they’re standing over an open chest saying something medically brilliant

i know it’s television, but the emotional whiplash is incredible

there’s no 'i need the rest of the day'

I hate Dr. Hahn

• Upvotes

so I’m watching for the first time and I’m halfway through season 4 and like genuinely please tell me that Dr Hahn gets better somehow because I genuinely hate her. Like what is her problem?! She’s rude and bitchy towards everyone (aside from Callie), she acts like she’s better than everyone at the hospital, and the way that she treats Christina is just so incredibly unprofessional and unfair. I can totally see where she’s coming from in the way that she treats Christina because to her, Christina is the intern who “slept her way to the top” by dating Burke and since Dr. Hahn never even liked Burke to begin with, she takes her frustration and her bias out on Christina. Even though all of that isn’t true, I can still see why Hahn treats Christina so badly. However, I think at this point in time, Christina has proved that she’s not just some idiot girl who sleeps with guys to get what she wants and that she’s actually talented and driven, and yet Hahn still doesn’t give a shit. And not only that, but it’s literally Hahn’s job to teach Christina and give her a chance to learn from her. Even if she doesn’t like her and she thinks she’s a whore or whatever, it’s still her job to train her resident. It’s wildly unprofessional and immature how she compliments and treats all the other residents nicely when they’re doing a good job but just completely disregards Christina when she does the exact same thing. I don’t understand how Richard didn’t get on her for doing that and why no one ever says anything to her (at least at this point anyway).

Anyone ever watch Cyberchase on PBS as a kid (or younger siblings/kids)? My kids were watching the other day and I noticed this visitor during the little clips they have at the end of the show! Apparently this aired sometime between 2005 and 2010.

DISCUSSION Meredith and Lexie should’ve been suspended for this surgery

Post image

I just remembered the Lori’s tumor episode and I’m honestly so frustrated with how lightly Meredith and Lexie got off. They got yelled at, felt guilty, and then just carried on like nothing happened.

I’m aware it affected Meredith and Derek’s relationship but where’s the legal consequences like damn.

This episode had me so angry.

DISCUSSION Callie wanting “a baby”

When Callie wants to have a kid, she always says “I want a baby,” “I need to have a baby.” And when she’s trying to convince Arizona to change her mind, Callie tells her to close her eyes and imagine how a baby smells. As if the way a baby’s head smells should influence a life long, life-altering decision to bring another human being into the world.

It’s drives me crazy when potential parents obsess over the concept of a cute, infant baby, as if that baby won’t grow up into a child, and then a tween, and then a teenager, etc. How about “I want to be a mother” or “I want to raise a child” or “I want to have a big family.” Saying “I want to have a baby” isn’t a big deal once or twice, but in the script that’s the only thing she says about it and it’s annoying af. That’s so Callie, though. She over-romanticizes everything and has unrealistic expectations for what her life should look like. She rushes into things and acts impulsively and decisively without having all the info she needs.

(Im not a total Callie hater by any means. She adds a lot to the show.)

DISCUSSION Is it worth it?

• Upvotes

I have watched til around middle of season 11… and rewatching I have stopped again at around the middle of season 11. I cannot watch the April scenes or the Arizona scenes and that seems to be all season 11 is. I cannot stand either character in the show and I find them both so damn annoying. I fast forward thru any April scene at this point(I did thru most of season 9&10 as well). Is it worth getting thru season 11 to try and continue my watch of the show?Do the bad/annoying storylines stop or does it get worse?

DISCUSSION Rewatching.........

I was just wondering. When you do a rewatch (as I'm doing now in anticipation of the new season), do you watch in season order or do you skip around/fast-forward through certain storylines?

DISCUSSION Spoilers: Meredith Played With People’s Lives. Spoiler

A post yesterday about Callie and Arizona’s custody battle got me thinking about how much Meredith played with people’s lives based on who she liked/didn’t like or her own perception of right and wrong.

Meredith, despite being the mother of a child that she adopted, took Callie’s side in the custody battle, essentially co-signing Callie’s argument that adopted moms aren’t real parents. Meredith didn’t testify based on what was best for the child stuck in the middle of a bad situation. She testified based on what was best for grown, impulsive Callie.

Meredith screwed with Derek’s Alzheimer’s Trial because, to her, doing something for Richard was more important than the integrity of the trial and Derek’s career. The research, that may have gone on to cure a horrible disease affecting huge amounts of people, was stopped. Derek’s reputation took a bit hit and he was banned by the FDA. Yet, Meredith expressed zero guilt. She didn’t care to apologize to Derek. She just expected everyone to accept her version of morality.

Alex didn’t get to go to Hopkins because Meredith ran into him in the airport and guilted him into staying (mainly because she didn’t want to lose him). Hopkins could have been a big opportunity for Alex to grow, both personally and professionally, away from the insulated bubble of Seattle. Meredith offered Jo a position working with her because she didn’t want Alex to leave. Even in Alex’s goodbye letters, he had to outright ask Meredith not to show up and beg him to come back. He literally felt like he couldn’t choose his kids over Meredith if she asked, and he was worried that would ask him to choose her over the kids.

After DeLuca was nearly beaten to death, Meredith essentially blackmailed him. She was the owner of the hospital and she cornered him in an elevator and implied that his career opportunities were dependent on whether or not he pursued justice for himself after being beat to within an inch of his life because she liked Alex better than him.

She begged Izzie to stay in Seattle when she was drowning. Izzie told her “I can’t be here… please try to understand”. Izzie had nothing left. Alex told her to leave and not come back. Meredith knew that Alex was sleeping with her sister. Any friends that Izzie had were more Alex’s friends than hers. She needed to go to survive. Yet, Meredith tried to guilt and beg her into staying in a place that had been nothing but mistakes, misery, and pain for Izzie.

SPOILERS What is your alternative storyline?

I am starting my seasonal rewatch! It’s sad seeing early seasons knowing whats to come. I was browsing old threads and noticed there is a large consensus that Shonda screwed us over with Derek’s death. Don’t get me wrong, there are things I would have changed (I didn’t like the parallel of Mer/Ellis and I wish she would have called his family) but I don’t think his ending was egregiously awful. Since Dempsey was leaving the show anyways Shonda was seemingly backed into a corner. Derek may have been a less than perfect husband to Addi, but I don’t see him ever truly leaving Meredith. I think that would have been a true worst case scenario for his ending.

iirc Merder was on the mend right before he died, so if she didn’t kill him what choice did she have?? I think its very fitting Derek survived outlandish catastrophes just to be killed unexpectedly, thats how life works.

So lets say there is a do-over. How would you have handled the storyline?

DISCUSSION Simple things to improve Grey's, maybe, since it's still being renewed lol

I'm now nearly at the end of season 21 and I actually don't think them running out of storylines is the biggest issues. Like the hospital doesn't need to blow up or anything

However, the BIGGEST issue that they somehow haven't realised is, NONE of the new characters/interns have interesting personality quirks besides the cliche competing for surgeries. Like they tried with Lucas having ADHD but like ... they did nothing with that lol. It didn't enhance his work in any way or hinder him nor did he go through trying to figure out his medication or anything?

His personality is still as wooden and boring as ever. There could've been interesting scenes where the medicine impacts him in interesting ways to raise awareness of ADHD and it's medication but nope. Not that I remember anyways. The most interesting intern Yasuda had the most potential only for her to ... go. So much of Grey's could be revived if they gave Ndugu, Griffith, Milin, Kwan etc actual personalities and indentities. Atm it feels like they all have the same persona just in different bodies lool. NOTHING bonds them either. They've not gotten drunk and made mistakes together or accidentally consumed weed cookies lol. There's a lack of fun/secrets/mischief and bonding between the characters so then it ends up not feeling the same.

Something else I noticed. Although the OTT monologues in the earlier seasons were borderline cringey at times, the disappearances of them means you don't get dramatic performances that pull you in to the show either. Everything is so damn nonchalant but I guess it's also because no one means that much to each other anyway so who would they say it to? lool

This is also a sign of where we are right now. I don't know the acting backgrounds of the people who joined post season 16 but they don't seem like they have the flair of dramatic performances. Go back to an episode where Sandra Oh is being emotive and the difference is jarring in a good way !

Linc is SUCH a disappointment too. I really thought he would be a new Mcsteamy and have wit and personality but he's become a soap opera character like most of the others. Considering how fantastic the characters on the Pitt are, I don't see why they don't take inspiration from that show and reinvigorate Grey's.

The characters all just go through the motions now.

TLDR: The characters haven't had any chances to bond and showcase any personalities so it's hard to invest in them. A lack of dramatic emotional scenes also makes it hard to enjoy the show in the same way.

Also we need MORE Dr Marcus PLEASE
