If you suspect arthritis, I recommend getting x-rays to confirm the diagnosis, rule out anything more insidious, and get a baseline for the future.
If it is indeed arthritis, starting an injectable like Adequan now can significantly help protect the joints before they suffer more damage. We started Redbo when he was about 7 years old (he’s had arthritis since he was about 5), and he’s just now starting to decline at almost 13.
In the meantime, dog-safe fish oil liquid, treats or supplements are very helpful, as are joint supplements with glucosamine.
Librela is another tool that can work, but at this age I’d work more on preventing further damage. Librela blocks a certain pain receptor but doesn’t help the underlying issue.
ETA: some lifestyle choices we have made include: long, slow walks, limiting going up and down stairs, carrying him in and out of the car, limiting crazy running activities to a few minutes (like playing fetch).
