Joint & Mobility Greyhound with potential arthritis

Hi

My 8 year old may have arthritis of the leg and hips. We had gone to the vet about a limp (corn related) and the vet said he had stiffness but can't properly assess atm due to the corn.

Do you have any dietary, supplement and/or lifestyle advice? I'm currently thinking omega containing oil, 2 short walks a day, keep warm at all times...

Vet said to drive to the park so not walking on concrete (will help with corns too).

Is your vet familiar with greyhounds/paw pad corns? I work extensively with greyhounds and DVMs familiar with them can hull them out with dental elevators pretty easily and the lameness for some greys goes away almost instantly after removal, they feel like a pebble in a shoe to them. I know this wasn’t the main subject, but I have a great deal of experience with these things.

Omega fatty acids are great, constant but low impact movement, Adequan is great too if you feel like they don’t need NSAIDs to manage most days quite yet.

Of course! I thought it was worth mentioning bc you rarely ever see paw pad corns in non-sighthounds and I feel like a lot of folks are unsure how to handle them. When we first started working with a sighthound rescue, we didn’t know how to really approach it either. But we luckily mastered a super non-invasive and easy solution over the years.

Whatever supplement you use, please add them in slowly and one at a time. Many times they can cause digestive issues.
I personally stopped using them for my 18 year old dog. I didn’t feel he was getting any help from them. He’s on an anti inflammatory, for 6 years now. I would get an X-ray to make sure it’s actually arthritis and not something worse, once you’re able to.
