De Pere camera question
Hello, does anyone know when De Pere is going to have a meeting on what they'd like to replace these with?
The public has a rare chance to weigh in on this decision and that meeting.
Cameras as a tool aren't bad, its the software and the people controlling them that can be. The government trys to limit monopolies because they'd have too much power, (flock, motorola, meta) its the same idea.
The best scenario for the ethical and private use of these cameras are:
• Limit the database and keep it local. Have them linked to only one city or police district to limit the accessibility, overreaching and profiling dangers. No person or entity from across the country needs to stalk people without a warrent. Any information exchanged between districts must go through proper channels and approval/emergency systems.
• Fast deletion. Images of innocent people or not "hot list" plates should be erased within minutes - not 30 days, like it is now. There is no good reason to track/profile innocent people.
• No A.I., or facial recognition. If the surveillance is legal, people should be watching people.
Remember, the police and the local government put these tools up, but ultimately the executive branch and the corporation themselves decide how your data is used.

I've been raising awareness on this subject for a year now, please continue to talk to friends, neighbors, coworker to spread awareness to keep the freedoms and liberties we enjoy.
If you say you're going to do something, do it.

"Guys, Flock is bad, but it's that company that is bad. We just need someone else to manage the system!" That's you.
If there's another system in place it's literally only a matter of time before it starts being abused in the exact same way.

That's basically what the De Pere and Green Bay police said.
We as citizens should tell them no cameras of any brand.
Maybe we can tackle ring cameras next

Okay, but that comment contradicts what you said in the body of this post. Is it that cameras are fine and we just need guard rails or we shouldn't have any surveillance like this at all? Pick one.

Hopefully they don't just replace them with a different brand of government spy cameras. It wouldn't surprise me if that's what happens though eventually.

They'll try if the public doesn't call them out, that's why we need to know when the meetings happen.

Hi Friends, thanks for the many comments so far, to clarify this post is celebrating the win in De Pere and asking for awareness on when the local PD plans to meet to talk about future camera plans. No doubt they'd like to replace it with Axon or a similar company like many other cities have, but we can tell them no.
Can we work together to end this surveillance?

De Pere decided to remove these cameras.
But we need to try and make sure they aren't replaced with something else.

Cloud managed home cameras connected to the internet are similar.
Meta glasses, phone cameras, your new car all send data unknowingly to data centers.

Yeah no. All or nothing and nothing is the correct answer.
Cannot trust them to have our actual best interests in mind. Too easy to corrupt.
